  • Patent number: 10117234
Abstract: A system and method for mapping a combined frequency division duplexing (FDD) Time Division Multiplexing (TDM)/Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) downlink subframe for use with half-duplex and full-duplex terminals in a communication system. Embodiments of the downlink subframe vary Forward Error Correction (FEC) types for a given modulation scheme as well as support the implementation of a smart antenna at a base station in the communication system. Embodiments of the system are also used in a TDD communication system to support the implementation of smart antennae. A scheduling algorithm allows TDM and TDMA portions of a downlink to efficiently co-exist in the same downlink subframe and simultaneously support full and half-duplex terminals.

Abstract: A communication device (device) includes a communication interface and a processor, among other possible circuitries, components, elements, etc. to support communications with other device(s) and to generate and process signals for such communications. The device receives a ranging instruction signal, which includes an initial power and at least one power step, from another device. The device processes the ranging instruction generates a first ranging signal based on the initial power. The device then transmits the first ranging signal to the another device. When a ranging response to the first ranging signal is received from the another device, the device determines that the device is successfully ranged to the another device. Alternatively, when no ranging response is received, the device generates a second ranging signal based on the initial power and the at least one power step and transmit the second ranging signal to the another device.

  • Patent number: 9980284
Abstract: In a wireless (e.g., machine-to-machine) network, items of user equipment compete for wireless communication resource slots (“resources”). In a contention period, an item of user equipment (a UE) sends a first signal to a base station using a first resource. The first resource is mapped to a second resource in a data transmission period. If the base station successfully receives the first signal, it sends a second signal to the UE to confirm that the UE has been awarded the second resource and can transmit data in the data transmission period.

  • Patent number: 9973959
Abstract: According to one aspect of the teachings herein, a wireless device operating in a wireless communication network determines the difference in signal arrival times with respect to first and second cells, and the device and/or the involved wireless communication network uses the difference to control one or more aspects of Carrier Aggregation, CA, operation for the wireless device. For example, there may be a maximum timing difference defined for the wireless device, e.g., as a function of its inherent capabilities, and the wireless device may evaluate the timing difference of a second cell that is a candidate of aggregation into its CA configuration, or that may be a candidate for activation as a serving cell within a CA configuration, with respect to a first cell that is already in use as a serving cell for the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 9936503
Abstract: This disclosure provides a method and for determining WLAN channel in a base station which supports both WLAN access and cellular network access, and a first WLAN channel is allocated for its WLAN access. According to this disclosure, if frequency space between the first WLAN channel and frequency range occupied by the cellular network access is not larger than a threshold, the base station detects available WLAN channels which are not occupied by surrounding WLANs. If the frequency space between the available WLAN channels and the frequency range occupied by the cellular network is not larger than the threshold, the base station changes its WLAN channel from the first WLAN channel to a second WLAN channel occupied by one of the surrounding WLANs. The frequency space between the second WLAN channel and the frequency range occupied by the cellular network access is larger than the threshold, thus interference between the cellular network and the WLAN is reduced or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 9913294
Abstract: A radio communication system includes a radio base station and a terminal device. The radio base station and the terminal device share correspondence information about subsets of preamble sequences obtained by segmenting preamble sequences available in the radio communication systems into groups, each of the subsets being associated with a received signal level at the terminal device and a number of repetitions for transmitting the preamble sequences of each of the subsets. Based upon a receive level of a signal transmitted from the radio base station, the terminal device selects a subset corresponding to the receive level by referring to the correspondence information and transmits a preamble sequence included in the selected subset at the number of repetitions associated with the selected subset.
