  • Patent number: 5791214
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tool arrangement (5) which includes a parting tool (6) or the like which is intended to cut off or remove a machined section from the raw material (3) held firmly in a holding device (2). Located adjacent the parting tool (5, 6) on the side thereof that is proximal to the raw material (3) is a bifurcate device (7) which is intended to coact with the edge region (3b, 6b) of the raw material that lies proximal to the machined section, at least when parting of the machine section (3a) is completed, so that upon axial movement of the parting tool and/or bifurcate device a given length of raw material will be withdrawn from the holding device (2). The invention also relates to a method of moving the raw material out of the holding device.

  • Patent number: 5788432
Abstract: A spindle apparatus comprises a main shaft mounted for rotary movement, a rotating device for rotating the main shaft about an axis, a vibration device for vibrating the main shaft, a detecting device for detecting a displacement of the main shaft when the main shaft is vibrated by the vibration device and providing an output signal indicative of the displacement of the main shaft, a calculating device for calculating an allowable revolution speed of the main shaft on the basis of the output signal of the detecting device, and a drive source for driving the rotating device to rotate the main shaft within a speed range which does not exceed the allowable revolution speed. When an end of the main shaft is vibrated by the vibration device, a displacement of the vibrated main shaft is detected by the detecting device which provides an output signal indicative of the detected displacement.

  • Patent number: 5785470
Abstract: The invention is basically a device that allows an individual to align the broaching tool more accurately. The invention begins with a base plate that is attached to the retriever base or puller head of the broach machine. Within the base plate is a large broach stick opening through which the retriever end or the puller end of the broach tool is placed. Attached to the base plates are four rails around the large openings. The adjustment plate is a plate that fits on top of the base plate and within the area created by the four rails. In the center of the adjustment plate is a large opening for the attachment of the retriever end or puller end of the broach tool. Also the adjustment plate has openings for attachment through bolts to the base plate. In the four rails there are also openings for set screws that pass through the rails and make contact with the adjustment plate fit within the area created by the rails.

  • Patent number: 5782593
Abstract: A drive has a housing, a machining spindle rotatable in the housing about an axis and adapted to carry a machine tool, and a motor in the housing having a stator fixed in the housing and surrounding the spindle and a rotor rotatable about the axis relative to the housing and to the spindle and surrounding the spindle. A gear transmission in the housing has an input connectable to the rotor and an output connectable to the spindle for rotating the spindle about the axis. This transmission is displaceable between a low-speed position with a sun gear meshing with planet gears and a planet carrier coupled to the spindle for rotating the spindle at a rate slower than that of the rotor and a high-speed position with the sun gear out of mesh with the planet gears and directly coupled to the spindle for rotating the spindle jointly with the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5778504
Abstract: An automatic lathe includes a pair of gang tool posts disposed on opposite sides of a headstock. The headstock has a main spindle and is movable axially of the main spindle, and the pair of gang tool posts are independently movable in respective two directions perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the axial direction. Pitches between work tools on one of the gang tool posts differ from pitches between work tools on the other gang tool post such that when a free-end position of an arbitrary work tool of a first gang tool post is aligned with that of an arbitrary work tool of a second gang tool post, free-end positions of the other work tools of the first gang tool post mutually differ from those of the other work tools of the second gang tool post.

  • Patent number: 5771534
Abstract: A slider block assembly and method for making the same are disclosed. The slider block assembly is for use with an elongate guide channel having a pair of laterally spaced apart side walls and a pair of axially spaced apart base walls joined to the side walls with one of the base walls having an elongate slot therein. The slider block assembly comprises a slider block having a socket therein and a fastener having a generally spherical ball. Preferably, the slider block is axisymmetric having an annular side wall flange and an annular base flange extending from a main body. The side wall and base flanges are cooperatively biased against the side walls and base walls when the slider block is inserted in the guide channel to prevent the slider block from rattling therewithin while allowing the slider block to slide or roll within the guide channel.

  • Patent number: 5769768
Abstract: In a tool changer system comprising one or more tool grippers together with a pressure foot insert change pod supported on a U-V slide which is independent of the machine work table. The slide services a tool magazine mounted on the machine tool in close proximity to the work table. Because the tool changer is independent of the machine table, the selection and retrieval of the next tool to be used is performed while the machine tool is working. Similarly, the replacement of the tool back into its storage location is done while the machine tool is working. The exchanging of the pressure foot insert is done as part of the tool change process. Time is saved because the work table does not have to be moved to position the tool changer under the spindle. In fact, the work table may be moved to the next work location while the tool changer changes the tool in the spindle.

  • Patent number: 5765273
Abstract: A drill press including a vertically disposed support post and a pivot assembly supported upon the support post is disclosed. A table is supported on the pivot assembly. The pivot assembly is pivotable about a first substantially horizontal axis, with the table pivoting about the first horizontal axis jointly with the pivot assembly. The table also is pivotable relative to the pivot assembly about a second substantially horizontal axis. The pivot assembly also may be pivoted around a vertical axis defined by the post and may be raised and lowered along the vertical post. A clamp plate is adjustably secured to the table and a telescoping extension arm is fixably secured relative to the table by the clamp plate. A guide fence is slidably disposable along the upper surface of the table and may be secured at various locations. A clamp may be adjustably secured either directly to the table or to the guide fence to vertically clamp a workpiece on the table.

  • Patent number: 5762594
Abstract: A program-controlled machine tool with automated tool changing, where the machine tool consists of a motor-driven machining unit with a working spindle that can be moved in at least one coordinate. The machine tool also includes a work table that can be driven by a motor in at least one coordinate, at least one tool magazine, and a programmable control unit. In order to be able to carry out tool changing operations without any auxiliary equipment, especially without a tool changer, within a short period of time, the tool magazine is mounted in a certain spatial arrangement with the working area of the machining unit so that its changing position can be approached directly by the working spindle in order to carry out the tool changing operation.

  • Patent number: 5758403
Abstract: A wire-insertion and cutting head assembly for a telephone wire impact-type termination tool is selectively operable to effect either a non-cutting mode of operation, or a cutting mode of operation, by selectively positioning a rotatable cam pin-based arrangement. The cam-pin based arrangement is configured such that, for a first rotational pin orientation, during axial translation of the wire insertion blade into the bore of the blade receptacle, the axial bore of the shaft portion of the wire insertion blade passes by the cylindrical shaft portion of the cam pin, and a cam-shaped surface of the cam pin enters into and passes through a reduced width region of a cam-shaped opening of a scissor-shaped blade, which prevents rotation of the cutting blade.
