  • Patent number: 11026293
Abstract: The described features generally relate to a flight data recorder system for adaptively transmitting flight data from an aircraft. In particular, an aircraft may collect flight data from a first set of aircraft sensors. This collected flight data may then be transmitted from the aircraft by a communication terminal of the aircraft. A flight data communication scheduler may manage the selective transmission of the flight data from the aircraft, and monitor flight parameter values associated with the flight data collected from the first set of aircraft sensors. An indication of a trigger event may be obtained, and a second set of one or more aircraft sensors of the aircraft may be activated to collect additional flight data associated with the second set of sensors. A ground station may perform aspects of adaptively transmitting flight data from an aircraft, and store flight data in a ground-based flight data recorder.

  • Patent number: 11006353
Abstract: Location access units (LAUs) in a wireless communications system (WCS) for transmitting information to a wireless client device in a WCS for determining location of wireless client device. The LAUs each include a transmitter(s) configured to transmit local wireless communications signal that includes identification information of the LAU, to a wireless client device in the WCS. This identification information can be used to associate the location of the LAU to the client device, because the client device is known to be in communication range of the LAU. In one example, the carrier of a communication session with a client device in the WCS can instruct the client device to scan for local wireless communications signals transmitted by an LAU. The client device returns received identification information from received wireless communications signals transmitted by an LAU to the carrier to associate this location of the LAU to the client device.

  • Patent number: 10827439
Abstract: For a cluster of cellular communication sites, the power consumption and data load of each site is measured over multiple time periods to determine an energy factor indicating the degree by which the power consumption of each site increases with increasing data load. The energy factors are then analyzed to determine coverage area sizes for the communications sites that will serve a given area while taking advantage of more efficient site to reduce overall power consumption of the cluster of sites. Transmission power levels are then adjusted at the sites to achieve these coverage area sizes.

  • Patent number: 10750420
Abstract: Provided are methods and systems of managing vertical handoffs in a wireless communication network. Embodiments include analyzing wireless device usage to determine usage patterns, which may include locations and times at which the wireless device is typically accessing the network. The network may recognize points in the usage patterns at which signal quality parameters are typically reduced. Such reductions in signal quality parameters may lead to inefficient vertical handoffs. The network may decrease adverse effects of inefficient vertical handoffs by reducing ping ponging, selecting links between wireless devices and network nodes, or indicating to a user of the wireless device that delays and/or data loss may occur.

  • Patent number: 10728870
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for avoiding attempts by a UE to attach to a RAT network when that RAT network is unavailable. According to certain aspects, the UE may detect scenarios when the RAT network is unavailable and take preemptive action to prevent the UE from attempting to acquire service on that RAT. For example, the UE may effectively remove that RAT from a list of supported RATs by sending a UE capability message indicating that RAT is not supported, which may prevent network-initiated transitions of the UE to that RAT. The UE may also remove the unavailable RAT from an internal list of supported RATs, which may prevent UE-initiated transitions to that RAT.
