  • Patent number: 5416960
Abstract: A method for the production of a fibrous product containing curled fibers includes applying rectilinear bi-component fibers (17) to the upper side of a raw material sheet (2) before it is introduced into a defibrator (1). Immediately before the introduction a heating is effected. When the rectininear bi-component fibers (17) are introduced into defibrator (1), the beater bars (9) effect a curling effect to provide a raw material including curled bi-component fibers. Hereby it is possible to substantially reduce the manufacturing costs, however, having the effect of curled bi-component fibers in the final fibrous product. Moreover, a good bonding of the fibers is obtained in the final product.

  • Patent number: 5417174
Abstract: A method and apparatus for indexing the waistband of trousers into belt loop attachment positions at the stitching station of a sewing machine is disclosed. A stepper motor is drivingly engaged to an indexer clamp, which engages the end portion of the waistband. The stepper motor drives the indexer clamp and pulls the waistband through the stitching station. A detector detects the presence of a waistband seam and signals a controller which correlates the position of the side seam as a reference point with the desired attachment positions of belt loops. The controller signals the stepper motor to stop when each of successive belt loop attachment positions move into the stitching station. The controller operates a belt loop delivery system which feeds a belt loop to the stitching station. Work holding clamps secure the belt loop onto the waistband. The belt loops are stitched onto the waistband as each successive belt loop attachment position enters the stitching station.

  • Patent number: 5417089
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in a circular knitting machine to form an end closure in a knitted tube made of thermoplastic yarn. The apparatus includes a tube constrictor mounted on the knitting machine for constricting the knitted tube formed by the knitting machine to form a generally solid, compact mass. The tube constrictor includes a plurality of constricting elements which define an aperture through which the knitted tube extends. The constricting elements are moveable between an open position and a closed position in which the knitted tube is gathered into a generally solid compact mass. A hot-air nozzle connected to a hot-air source is engageable with the air passage in the tube constrictor for directing a stream of hot air through said passage to sever and fuse said compact mass and to form a heat-sealed closure at one end of the tube segment severed from the knitted tube.

  • Patent number: 5416927
Abstract: A novelty hat in the form of a ball cap having a visor defining an opening in which a miniature basketball net is mounted. The miniature net is held in position in the opening by a rim of molded plastic including respective flanges circumscribing the opening, on both the top and the bottom of the visor. A miniature basketball fits through the rim, but the opening in the bottom of the net is small enough to keep the ball from passing all the way down through the net. A keeper mounted on the rim is selectively movable to a position extending above a portion of the ball to hold the ball in the net and thus prevent the ball from being lost when the hat is not being worn.

  • Patent number: 5416924
Abstract: A protective pad includes a sheet of generally rigid malleable material having a plurality of spaced apart slots formed along at least a pair of opposing side edges, to form wing portions between the slots. The sheet is bent from end to end and from side to side to conform to a portion of the body. The side edges of the sheet are shortened by overlapping the wing portions, so as to conform the sheet to a specific portion of the body. A soft pad of spongy material is adhered to one surface of the sheet to be placed against the body. A resilient protective coating completely covers the sheet and the soft pad, yet allows the sheet to bend and conform to the body portion. The entire unit is encased within a fabric material with straps permitting attachment of the protective pad to the body.

  • Patent number: 5414902
Abstract: A defibrator which makes it possible to distribute defibrated cellulosic fibers directly onto a forming wire (5) includes ribs (33) extending inside a cylindrical housing (24). The ribs have outer curved surfaces which direct fibers into an area (35) in which beater plates (25). A grate (37) in front of an outlet (30) from the circular housing (24) is arranged at the periphery (35) for the rotation of the beater plates (25). The grate has an interspace between grate bars only allowing fibers to pass through. Accordingly, agglomerates are returned into the working area of the beater plates (25). As the beater plates (25) act several times on agglomerates, it is ensured that only individual fibers pass through the grate (37). Accordingly, fibers are discharged directly onto the forming wire (5) from a discharge opening (2) of the defibrator (1). Preferably, the discharge opening (2) has a width corresponding to the width of the product to be formed on the forming wire (5).

  • Patent number: 5415007
Abstract: A fabric intended to serve as an insert in working trousers or trouser legs for power-saw operators. The fabric consists of two layers, viz. a carrier layer or passive layer, wherein the threads interconnect the threads of the active layer, i.e. the layer wherein on account of the contraction of the passive layer threads caused by suitable treatment of them, the threads of the active layer are forced to take on a sinuous configuration whereby at their contact with the saw chain the sinuous sections will be caught by the chain, and the threads of the active layer by pulled out and thus so heavily oppose the movement of the saw chain that the latter is immobilized.
