  • Patent number: 5410974
Abstract: The invention pertains to an embroidery machine with a plurality of embroidery stations provided with corresponding embroidery tools which are attached to shafts that oscillate during the operation of the machine and extend along the embroidery machine. The shafts are actuated via corresponding drives. To reduce the torsion as well as the torsional oscillation of long shafts which leads to a distortion of the movement of the embroidery tools and to a chronological phase displacement between the front and the rear portion of the machine, the drives for the needles and for the other embroidery tools are arranged approximately in the center of the embroidery machine.

  • Patent number: 5410762
Abstract: An elastic strap having at least two opposing belt receiving slots through which the free end of a belt is threaded. Preferably, the strap is made of neoprene. The belt receiving slots are reinforced by either grommeting or stitching. The distance between the belt openings is slightly less than the width of the compact portable device which is secured between the outside wall of the belt and the inside wall of the elastic strap. When the belt is tightened around the body of the active wearer, the relative movement of the secured compact portable device and the body is minimized even if the wearer is engaged in vigorous exercise. A second embodiment which features an overlapping elastic strap permits the active wearer to access the control of the compact portable device without interrupting his or her routine. Moreover, the padding of neoprene strap protects the compact portable devices from accidental bumps and knocking against hard objects.

  • Patent number: 5410759
Abstract: Top garments which permit the wearer's arms to move freely without ride-up have sleeves patterned to lay flat above the head. Positioning of the sleeves at such an orientation during patterning is advantageous because it allows the wearer to raise each arm above the head without distorting the shape of the garment by inducing ride-up of the waistband, bunching of material around the shoulder area or pulling of the cuff. Such a garment is especially useful for physical activities which require extensive arm movements.

  • Patent number: 5410788
Abstract: An automated yarn conditioning apparatus and process is provided. This apparatus and process allows for unconditioned yarn packages to be brought from a source to a yarn conditioning station where they are conditioned and then ejected onto a takeaway conveyor. Yarn conditioning is achieved within an airtight chamber inside of a vessel. The yarn conditioning process used first evacuates the airtight chamber and then injects steam or other conditioning vapor into the airtight chamber while partially elevating the internal chamber pressure and/or temperature. Simultaneously with the conditioning of the yarn packages inside the airtight chamber, unconditioned yarn packages are brought to the conditioning station for placement inside the vessel when the prior conditioning step has been completed.

  • Patent number: 5408940
Abstract: Apparatus providing an adjustable height work surface. A work table is cantilevered from posts supported for vertical motion inside columns from a base. A drive connected between the work table and the base changes the height of the work table and is located between the columns and posts. Each post carries a rack that engages with a pinion supported by a column for rotation about a common axis. A rigid shaft interconnects two pinions and prevents relative pinion rotation. A stabilizing structure in each column interacts with the post to maintain engagement between the rack and pinion structure and maintains the work table in a horizontal position during adjustment and use.

  • Patent number: 5408730
Abstract: A draw texturing machine, which is provided with a heater to be set at a temperature higher than a melting point of a yarn to be textured, can be stopped in operation while the yarn is being threaded onto the machine and then re-started. The temperature of the heater is lowered upon stoppage of the machine, the temperature of the heater is detected, and the rotating speeds of rotating members are controlled based on the detected temperature. An effective method is provided by which a draw texturing machine provided with a heater to be set at a temperature higher than a melting point of a yarn to be textured can be stopped and then re-started while the yarn is being threaded.

  • Patent number: 5406899
Abstract: A fabric rest board for use with a serger machine. The fabric rest board is an L-shaped, substantially flat, rigid piece. One leg of the L-shaped fabric rest board is positioned to extend substantially in parallel with, and along or adjacent to, an edge of a work table. The other leg of the L-shaped piece extends substantially perpendicular from the edge of the work table adjacent a bag attached to the serger machine for collecting cut pieces of fabric. The serger machine rests on the leg of the support piece which extends substantially parallel with, and along or adjacent to, the edge of the work table. The weight of the serger machine fixes the position of the fabric rest board on the work table. The operator uses the perpendicular leg to rest the fabric as the fabric is moved through the serger machine. The fabric is thereby prevented from falling between the serger machine and the operator which, if this occurs, can cause incorrect cuts or stitches.

  • Patent number: 5407108
Abstract: A bow making machine includes a magnetized anvil fixed to a base between four upwardly extending, channel-forming posts. The magnetized anvil holds a barrette in place within the channel defined by the posts, and loops of bow-forming ribbon material are placed over the barrette such that a central portion of the ribbon material is also situated between the posts. A ribbon/staple holder is placed over the central portion of the ribbon material to sandwich the barrette and the ribbon material between the ribbon/staple holder and the anvil. A staple is placed within the ribbon/staple holder, and then a punch assembly is pivoted into place to align a punch mechanism with the staple. The punch mechanism is depressed to force the ends of the staple into engagement with the anvil, which has the effect of binding the sandwiched central portion of the ribbon material and the underlying barrette together.
