  • Patent number: 7455062
Abstract: A nitric oxide delivery device is provided that can be formed as a module that is insertable in a mating equipment bay in a gas delivery system found in one location, removed and used in conjunction with a transport gas delivery system when the patient is transported, and thereafter inserted in the equipment bay of a gas delivery system located at a second location. In a preferred embodiment, the device includes a housing having an NO supply port, an NO delivery port, a flow sensor port, and a conduit pneumatically connected to the NO supply port and the NO delivery port. A selector valve is positioned in the conduit and selectively moves between a first position wherein the NO supply port is pneumatically connected to the NO delivery port and a second position wherein the NO delivery port is pneumatically connected to a temporary supply of NO.

  • Patent number: 7455061
Abstract: A diving helmet bubble diverter comprises a front skirt portion and a rear skirt portion attached to the front skirt portion at one end. The rear skirt portion is configured for mounting onto the diving helmet breathing regulator assembly. The attached front and rear skirt portions form side pockets that divert exhaust air bubbles away from the diver's mask when the rear skirt portion is mounted onto the regulator assembly. The mounted rear skirt portion forms a protective barrier between the exterior wall of the diving helmet and the exhaust whisker of the breathing regulator assembly that prevents air bubbles exiting the whisker from coming into contact with the diving helmet during diving activities.

  • Patent number: 7434580
Abstract: The concentration of xenon, in a medical gas mixture of xenon as an active component with a known composition of oxygen and, optionally, nitrogen and/or helium recirculating through a medical device (103) in which carbon dioxide is introduced into the mixture, is monitored by removal (135, 133) of carbon dioxide downstream of the medical device (103) and subsequently passing the carbon dioxide-free gas through an ultrasonic gas analyser (143) upstream of the medical device. The gas analyzer determines the xenon concentration by measuring the time delay between transmission of an ultrahigh frequency ultrasonic pulse of at least 100 kHz axially through the sample chamber from a location at one end thereof and reflection of said pulse axially from the other end of the sample chamber back to said location. An analyser of novel construction is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7424889
Abstract: An interface mechanism is provided that removably unites a carbon dioxide absorption canister with a patient breathing circuit on a ventilator. The interface mechanism includes a cradle that is moveably positioned between a first position and a second position, wherein in the first position, the canister is coupled to the cradle and the cradle is positioned such that the canister is in fluid communication with the breathing circuit. In the second position, the canister is removable from the cradle and the cradle extends at an angle from the patient breathing circuit. The interface mechanism advantageously provides visual indication when the canister is removed and the breathing circuit is operating as a closed loop system, without CO2 filtration. The mechanism also facilitates efficient and accurate fluid connection between the carbon dioxide absorption canister and the breathing circuit.

  • Patent number: 6905703
Abstract: An edible product in accordance with the present invention involves an edible inner component made from a first material and an edible outer cover component substantially completely encapsulating the edible inner component. In one form of the invention, the inner component is in the form of a hairball treatment for cats and the outer component is a dough-like material. A system for producing the edible product includes a first material source for supplying a first edible material to form the inner component of the edible product, a second material source for supplying a second edible material to form the outer component of the edible product, and an extruder for continuously coextruding the first edible material and the edible second material to produce an elongated rope of edible product. A crimping apparatus receives the longitudinal rope extruded from the extruder for crimping the longitudinal rope to separate the longitudinal rope into individual edible products.

  • Patent number: 6743433
Abstract: Acne is treated or prevented by the topical application of compositions containing an alkanolamine such as dimethylaminoethanol, tyrosine, and a sulfur ingredient such as lipoic acid or glutathione. Adjunct ingredients such as fatty acid esters of ascorbic acid, e.g., ascorbyl palmitate and &agr;-hydroxy acids may be included in the formulations. Compositions of the invention may be used alone, or, in many preferable embodiments, in combination with conventional acne medications such as anti-acne products containing salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or a retinoid. In these embodiments, alkanolamine compositions of the invention are applied to affected skin areas first, and then a conventional acne medication is applied. This maximizes the efficacy of the treatment while minimizing skin irritation caused by conventional medications.
