    Abstract: A powered window regulator for use with a horizontally sliding window assembly may be disconnected from a sliding pane to permit manual operation of the window. The regulator has a tubular guide rail mounted adjacent and parallel to the lower edge of the window assembly by pivot brackets which engage the respective ends of the guide rail such that the guide rail is rotatable about the pivot brackets. A carrier block slides within the guide rail, and a portion of the block extends out through a longitudinal slot extending along the length of the guide rail to engage a pane attachment affixed to the sliding pane. The carrier block is moved reciprocally along the guide rail by a motor-driven cable to slide the sliding pane between open and closed positions. Rotation of the guide rail about the pivot brackets through approximately ninety degrees moves the carrier block between an upright position wherein it engages the pane attachment and a depressed position wherein it is disengaged from the pane attachment.

    Abstract: A mechanically interlocking belt weatherstrip for a motor vehicle. The weatherstrip is formed by three separate components: a cover, a body and a sealing lip. The weatherstrip may be made from separate, all-extruded components, or may be a made from a combination of molded and extruded components. The weatherstrip is formed by snapping the body and the cover snap together to hold the sealing lip securely in place. Because the cover can be easily interchanged with a different cover, the cover can be made to include properties, such as color and gloss, desired by a particular motor vehicle manufacturer while the remaining components remain unchanged. Thus, the weatherstrip allows versatility of the selection of the separate components to meet the individual style and functional needs of a particular motor vehicle design.

    Abstract: A system for servicing an overhead door having a spring counter balance mechanism, an operator and a directional control system. The servicing system includes a counter, information cards, and contact cards. The counter includes a counting device and a numeric display. The counting device records the number of full cycles of the springs used in the counter balance mechanism measured from the fully closed position of the door. The numeric display shows this number of full cycles. An inspector of the door compares this number to the cycle failure specification for the springs used in the counter balance mechanism listed on the information cards. If replacement or attention is required, the inspector uses the contact cards to inform the appropriate parties that the door is not functioning properly or that the springs require attention.

    Abstract: A louvre shutter adapted to be assembled from elements forming a kit. The elements are so adapted that the shutter dimensions can vary, enabling the shutter to be installed within a window frame that falls within a predetermined range of sizes. The side rails of the shutter incorporate elongate channels for receiving elongate support members. The support members have a plurality of apertures that journal elongate pinion gears projecting from the louvres. The combination of the support rails, louvres, and pinion gears forms a sub-assembly that can be received within the side rails and top rails of the shutter frame. The support members include channels that receive gear racks. The pinion gears mesh with the gear racks enabling synchronous rotation of the louvres. The pinion gears perform the additional function of operating as spindles for the louvres. The dual functionality of the pinion gears reduces the complexity of component parts in the kit and facilitates assembly.

    Abstract: A door having a core made from a composite panel material such as medium density fiberboard or particleboard is provided with a plurality of dowels which are secured, such as by an adhesive, within openings extending into the core. The dowels and openings are positioned in alignment with the screw holes in the hinges which mount the door to a jamb or cabinet. Screws or other fasteners extend through the screw openings in the hinges and are secured within the dowels. The dowels permit conventional wood screws to be used to mount the hinges to the door and improve the screw holding capability of the door. The dowels also eliminate the need to use edge banding for screw holding purposes and thereby eliminate the problems associated with the joint formed between the edge banding and the core material.

A voltage source is connected to the conductive coating, such that an electrical charge is placed across the window. Electrical characteristics of the charge are monitored, and compared to expected values. In the event that an obstruction is encountered, the monitored values will differ from expected values, and a control can indicate the presence of an obstruction. Alternatively, the signal could be a high frequency signal such as a sound signal which would be varied when the window contacts a human obstruction.

    Abstract: A strike plate includes a substantially flat body having a bolt-receiving hole defined therein. The body is placed between the exterior and interior sides of a jamb of the door assembly, with the bolt-receiving hole being generally aligned with the bolt-receiving opening defined in the jamb. The strike plate further includes a substantially flat projection extending generally transversely from the body at a point spaced from the bolt-receiving hole. The projection is secured against the side of the jamb that the door moves past as it swings into and out of the closed position (i.e., the exterior or interior side of the jamb). In one embodiment, the projection is secured to the side of the jamb by a reinforcement plate attached to the side of the jamb to overlie the projection. In another embodiment, the projection includes a pair of tabs that project outwardly beyond the body, wherein each tab has an opening for receiving a fastener therein.

    Abstract: The modular masonry step and deck assembly consists of a plurality of like-shaped risers and a plurality of like-shaped treads that enable the assembly to have a variety of shapes, sizes and heights to provide a custom fit to a variety of buildings, mobile homes or trailers. The risers are dry stacked in a multi-tier, multi-column, multi-row arrangement to form a base of the assembly. An inwardly expanding groove is formed in each corner of each riser. When aligned flush with adjacent risers and dry stacked one atop the other in a stacked bond arrangement, the groves form a continuous vertical channel. A semi-flexible locking key is formed inside the channel to secure the risers together, but accommodate movements caused by the freezing and thawing of the ground. Four differently shaped treads are used to form the walking surface of the step and deck assembly. Each tread shape is used to form a specific portion of the walking surface.
