Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the concurrent isomerization and disproportionation of hydrocarbon olefins by contacting said hydrocarbon at disporportionation conditions with a catalyst comprising a physical mixture of a disproportionation catalyst comprising a heavy metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium and mixtures thereof, deposited on an inorganic oxide support and a double bond isomerization catalyst comprising an acidic zeolite capable of effecting double bond isomerization.
Abstract: A process for producing 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene by alkylation of an alkylaromatic, e.g. toluene, with a C.sub.5 olefin alkylating agent, e.g. 1-pentene, in the presence of a suitable alkylation catalyst, and dehydrocyclization of the resulting alkylate with a dehydrocyclization catalyst to generate a dimethylnaphthalene product rich in the 2,6-isomer. Additional process steps can include isomerization of the product and further alkylation.

Abstract: A method is provided for cyclizing an alkenylbenzene to a dialkyltetrahydronaphthalene (dialkyltetralin) in the presence of a solid cyclization catalyst constituted by a relatively low acidity, ultrastable, hydrogen form of crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite Y having a sodium oxide-to-alumina bulk molar ratio in the range of about 0.001 to about less than 1, a unit cell size no greater than about 24.3 Angstroms, and a sodium content of no more than about 0.4 percent by weight, calculated as elemental sodium and based on the weight of the zeolite. This catalyst provides more activity, more stability, higher product purity, and higher product yields than known prior art zeolite cyclization catalysts notwithstanding its relatively lower acidity. A preferred alkenylbenzene is 5-(o-tolyl)-pent-2-ene which is converted in relatively high yields and relatively high selectivities to 1,5 dimethyltetrahydronaphthalene.

Abstract: Alkyl aromatic compounds may be prepared by reacting an aromatic compound such as benzene with an alkylating agent such as an olefin, alkyl halide or alkyl alcohol in the presence of an alkylation catalyst. The alkylation catalyst of the present invention comprises a pillared clay and a binder which has been prepared by dispersing a clay in a metallic pillaring agent sol, separating the resultant pillared clay, washing and drying said pillared clay, forming a dough of said pillared clay and a binder compound, extruding said dough extudate. By utilizing this catalytic composite it is possible to obtain improved selectivity of the desired alkyl aromatic compound which may then be used in the preparation of biodegradable detergents.

Abstract: An acid-sulfolane catalyzed process of preparing cyclic alkylated compounds such as indanes by reacting a monovinyl aromatic compound with an olefinic compound, such reaction further improved by the addition of a lanthanide oxide, or Group VI A elements and/or oxides or a mixture of such oxides.
Abstract: In a process for the production of 2,3-dimethylbutenes by the dehydrochlorination of 1-chloro-3,3-dimethylbutane in the presence of a catalyst, a conversion of the starting material and selectivity of the desired product can be improved when at least one compound selected from the group consisting of magnesium compounds, calcium compounds and lanthanum compounds is used as the catalyst.
Abstract: In a cleaning system for cleaning venetian blinds, the blinds are stretched with their slats extending vertically on a carrier belt that is mounted to rotate about longitudinally separated drive and idler assemblies. One run of the carrier belt forms a station for loading and unloading of the blinds, and the other run of the carrier belt passes through successively arranged chambers in which both sides of the blinds to be cleaned are sprayed with washing liquid followed by various rinse solutions, whereafter the blind is passed through a drying chamber in which hot air is blown to effect drying. The vertical arrangement of the slats of the blind enable the washing and rinse liquids to drain rapidly and substantially completely so that the energy required for drying is reduced.
