  • Patent number: 11992712
Abstract: An apparatus and an associated method relates to a directionally polarized deceleration module (PDM) include a shuttle (125) fixedly coupled to a spring-biased spool (120) rotatable coupled to a module housing (115), a dynamic braking member (DBM) (130) and the shuttle (125) configured to travel inside a channel anchored to the module housing (115). A tether may be anchored on a proximal end to the spool (120). As the tether is retracted, the DBM (130) may be pushed by an angled distal-end of the shuttle (125). The DBM (130) may be forced between the angled distal-end of the shuttle (125) and an inner channel wall, providing motional resistance to the tether. As the tether is extracted, the DBM (130) may be pushed substantially normal to a proximal-end of the shuttle (125), providing minimal motional resistance to the tether. Various PDMs may decelerate safety lanyards in one direction to substantially avoid tangling and/or damage.

  • Patent number: 11992714
Abstract: A firestop device includes a collar to be mounted to a surface at wall penetration of a plastic pipe. The collar includes a first collar half and a second collar half, having corresponding end portions which are connected to each other. A fire resistant foldable cap is circumferentially connected to the collar for closing off the penetration location when the pipe is collapsed. In case of a fire an actuation assembly moves the fire resistant foldable cap over the penetration location to close it off. The collar is a fold-out collar in which said corresponding ends of the first and second collar halves are hingedly connected to each other to be moveable from a folded state, in which the second collar half substantially overlaps the first collar half, to a folded out state, in which the first collar half and the second collar half form a ring shaped collar.

  • Patent number: 11992936
Abstract: A surgical system uses a single entry port in a wide variety of surgeries. To insert multiple surgical instruments into a patient through a single entry port requires that the shaft of at least one of the surgical instruments be bent between the base of the surgical instrument and the point where the shaft contacts a channel in an entry guide. Each surgical instrument is positioned by an instrument manipulator positioning system so that when the shaft is inserted in a channel of the entry guide, any bending of the shaft does not damage the surgical instrument and does not inhibit proper operation of the surgical instrument.

  • Patent number: 11992944
Abstract: Training and/or utilizing a hierarchical reinforcement learning (HRL) model for robotic control. The HRL model can include at least a higher-level policy model and a lower-level policy model. Some implementations relate to technique(s) that enable more efficient off-policy training to be utilized in training of the higher-level policy model and/or the lower-level policy model. Some of those implementations utilize off-policy correction, which re-labels higher-level actions of experience data, generated in the past utilizing a previously trained version of the HRL model, with modified higher-level actions. The modified higher-level actions are then utilized to off-policy train the higher-level policy model. This can enable effective off-policy training despite the lower-level policy model being a different version at training time (relative to the version when the experience data was collected).

  • Patent number: 11993391
Abstract: A fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft has a tail boom that contains a fuel tank. The fuel tank is configured to contain pressurized hydrogen. The pressurized hydrogen fuels a fuel cell stack to generate electricity to rotate one or more rotors or propellers. The fuel tank may define the structure of the tail boom and may support the empennage, tail rotor, propeller, convertible thruster, ducted fan or vectored thruster and associated drive systems with respect to the fuselage. The aircraft has adequate control authority for sustained coordinated flight when the fuel tank is filled with pressurized hydrogen and when the fuel tank is drained of pressurized hydrogen. The same aircraft may not have adequate control authority for coordinated flight if fuel tank was filled with a conventional liquid fuel.
