Patent number: 6006413Abstract: Nail files are made in a manner which permits ease of dispensing. A tube is continuously fed into a milling machine where grooves are formed in predetermined segments of the tube. These grooves are roughened by adhesively applying abrasive particles or by milling the groove surfaces. The tubes are stamped so as to form alternating long grooved areas and short smooth areas. The thus-prepared tubes are divided into sections of desired lengths containing a plurality of nail files which may be easily detached from the remainder of the files in the section. Another method comprises providing a solid or hollow rod which has any of a variety of geometric cross-sections, providing the rod with grooves having varying sizes, roughening the surfaces of the grooves as above, and weakening the rods at predetermined lengths to produce sections containing a series of easily detached segments. The hollow files may be fitted with closures at each end. At least one of these closures is removable and replaceable.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Inventor: Brent L. Farley

Patent number: 6007753Abstract: In the end portion of a weather strip, the projecting base end portion of a hollow seal portion is left as a first uncut-off portion, whereas the main portion of the hollow seal portion is cut off. The thus treated end portion is set in a split mold. In this setting, a cooling mold is brought into contact with a decorative high molecular layer. Also, the first uncut-off portion is pushed down in a direction away from the decorative high molecular layer is thereby pressed against the outer surface of the side wall of a trim portion. Also, a first middle mold is disposed opposed to the outer surface of the side wall to thereby form a cavity, while the cavity and decorative high molecular layer are separated from each other through the first uncut-off portion. Molding material is injected into the cavity to thereby form a mold forming portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1998Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tatsuhiko Nagata

Patent number: 5997675Abstract: A composition containing thermoplastic elastomer and elastic fine particles is extruded into a sheet-like shape from an extruder. Then, by expanding this sheet-like shape member, a covering sheet having minute unevenness attributable to the elastic fine particles formed on the surface is produced. The covering sheet may have an adhesive layer, a substrate layer, a foamed resin layer, etc., on the opposite side to the surface having a matt feeling. Such covering sheet can be produced with good productivity without creating environmental problems such as a problem related to solvent, etc. By molding using the covering sheet, a molding having matt feeling can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1998Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignee: Sekisui Kagaku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Akitaka Miyake, Tomoko Uematsu, Toshimitsu Tsuji

Patent number: 5980231Abstract: A thermoforming machine utilizes two clamping frames to advance cut sheets through heating and forming stations, with the clamping frames returned via an overhead path above the oven in the heating station. Pneumatic cylinders arranged about the inner perimeter of the frames are operated to grip the sheet and release the sheets, which are pressurized and released via fluid connections established when the frames are lifted from a transfer bar structure at the loading and forming stations. The clamping frames have pivoted end sections which are engaged by extendible gear posts at the forming station to bend the clamped sheet into greater conformity with the tooling shape prior to forming.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Brown Machine, LLC.Inventors: Albert W. Patent number: 5975879Abstract: Multiple legs elevate a central ring bearing, to which a ring-shaped rotatable plastic sheet support carousel is mounted. The carousel is fitted with a ring gear which engages with a drive system to position the carousel and the thermoplastic sheets supported from it. A multi-post vertical press is positioned with two posts extending upwardly interior to the ring bearing, and two posts extending upwardly exterior to the ring bearing. The ring bearing thus extends through the press, allowing the carousel to supply and remove plastic sheets to and from the press. An upper platen and a lower platen are mounted for vertical displacement to the posts, thereby ensuring a high degree of parallelism between the molds mounted to the platens, and accurate twin-sheet thermoforming.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Alltrista CorporationInventors: William L. Patent number: 5945052Abstract: An extruded "Y" or bifurcated tube having unitary construction and an extrusion apparatus therefor. The "Y" tube includes three separate tubes, each tube having a central lumen, and a transition portion integral with the tubes and providing physical connection and fluid communication between the individual lumens of the three separate tubes. The first of the three tubes has a first lumen and is first formed by extrusion through a convention extruding die. The extruder die then gradually bifurcates the first tube, providing a gradual transition between the first tube and the second and third tubes. The lumens in the second and third tubes thus formed remain in uninterrupted fluid communication with the lumen of the first tube. The bifurcation takes place with the first tube to form second and third tubes smoothly and over a transition distance which is easily controlled by the extruder die. The bifurcated second and third tubes are continuous with the first tube making the "Y" tube unitary.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1995Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Specialty Silicone FabricatorsInventors: Charles Schryver, David Batdorf, Jr.

Patent number: 5939107Abstract: A preheater and method of preheating a thermoplastic sheet prior to entry of the sheet into a differential pressure forming machine which forms an article in the sheet. The preheater includes mechanism for initially threading a sheet in a generally horizontal plane, mechanism for concurrently displacing upstream and downstream portions of the sheet in vertically opposite directions relative to the horizontal plane to dispose a portion of the sheet in an upstanding plane. A heater is provided for heating the upstanding portion of the sheet in the upstanding plane. After the sheet has been repositioned with a portion in the upstanding plane, the heater is laterally moved from an inoperative position to a sheet heating position receiving the portion of the sheet at the sheet heating station. Patent number: 5932163Abstract: A PVC film cover including a down and interned marginal portion terminating in a thickened bead, the marginal portion tapering in thickness from the bead toward the central body portion of the cover. The cover is produced through the use of a shape-conforming mold into whose central portion liquid PVC is dispensed while the mold is rotating. The liquid PVC moves over the mold surfaces outward toward the outer marginal portion thereof by centrifugal force and rotation of the mold is terminated and the mold is quickly inverted into a downwardly opening position whereupon the excess liquid PVC at the outer periphery of the mold flows slowly down to a reversely turned edge for forming the bead of the cover. In quick succession, the mold is heated in order to gel and then harden the liquid PVC, mold is cooled and the cover is thereafter removed from the mold.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1996Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Inventor: Louis S.
