  • Patent number: 6693548
Abstract: A system for monitoring the structural condition of a helicopter rotor assembly component includes a piezoelectric sensor. Acoustic emission signal techniques allow for recognizing the relatively high frequency stress waves associated with the propagation of cracks or defects in a rotor assembly component. A signal conditioner processes the sensor signal and provides an output signal that includes at least one characteristic that is indicative of the content of the sensor signal and, therefore, the structural condition of the item of interest. A signal analyzer utilizes the output signal from the signal processor to determine the structural condition of the component.

  • Patent number: 6690300
Abstract: An improved marine engine control methodology is utilized in either single or twin engine applications, and provides a safe and logical transitioning between manual and automatic operating modes. A standard software instruction set is installed in a microprocessor-based engine control module for each engine, and a discrete input informs the control module if the respective engine is a master engine or a slave engine. In single engine applications, the engine is identified as a master engine, while in twin engine applications, one of the engines is identified as a master engine, and the other as a slave engine. The control software provides an operator activated speed control function for a master engine, and an operator activated sync control function for a slave engine. Each engine has an operator manipulated throttle lever for controlling the respective engine throttle position during the manual operating mode, and for defining a limit throttle position during the automatic operating modes.

  • Patent number: 6690276
Abstract: A wireless security system using multiple receivers in which each RF receiver can monitor the messages being sent to the control by the other receivers via constant monitoring of the bi-directional communication between the control and all of the other receivers on the bus. If a message in a first receiver's transmission buffer matches a message that has already been acknowledged by the control from a second receiver, the first receiver can discard its duplicate message. This significantly reduces the number of messages that the control's communication bus needs to handle, especially during the disarmed state of the system as indicated earlier. Coincidently, the amount of processing in the control is also reduced.

  • Patent number: 6690283
Abstract: An apparatus to indicate a state where a communication device connected to a communication wire and a power line is protected from a surge current. A toroidal coil picks up a rapid increase of current caused by a rapid increase of voltage that occurs in the communication wire and/or the power line. The toroidal coil is connected to the current detecting unit. The current detecting unit converts the current from the toroidal coil into a voltage and supplies it to a switching circuit. The switching circuit turns on an indicator light circuit to light up an LED of the indicator light circuit.

  • Patent number: 6680675
Abstract: A system and method for alerting a user of an item on a to-do list if the user is detected to be close to the item's performance location. Each to-do list item is entered to a mobile user terminal such as one that might be supported in an automobile. The mobile terminal includes a GPS interface that allows an automatic detection of the mobile terminal when the automobile is in motion. Using the GPS interface, the mobile terminal periodically compares the position of the user with various to-do list item locations to determine whether the user will pass within a pre-defined proximity metric of the listed item. Whenever a particular criteria is satisfied, the system provides a notification to the user of a potential to-do list item. In response to the notification, the user indicates that the user has accepted the notification by transmitting a “confirmed” status, or has completed the item by transmitting a “completed” status.

  • Patent number: 6667685
Abstract: In a power line noise filter, a detection circuit detecting variations in electric current in two conductive lines of an electric power line, thereby detecting common mode noise that causes a change in electric current in the power line. A phase-inverted signal generation circuit then generates a phase-inverted signal whose is inverted to that of the noise detected by the detection circuit. Further, an injection circuit causes a change in electric current corresponding to the phase-inverted signal, for the two conductive lines of the electric power line. The common mode noise causing a change in electric current in the electric power lines is thereby canceled.

  • Patent number: 6661346
Abstract: A safety system for a building has an earthquake detector circuit for detecting ground accelerations exceeding a threshold acceleration/frequency curve dividing safe and hazardous ground accelerations throughout a predetermined frequency range. The earthquake detector includes an accelerometer for measuring linear acceleration along an axis, and for generating an acceleration signal indicative of a magnitude of the measured acceleration. A filter circuit produces a filtered acceleration signal from the acceleration signal. The gain/frequency characteristic of the filter circuit is a reflection of the threshold acceleration/frequency curve, such that ground accelerations falling on the threshold acceleration/frequency curve yield a filtered acceleration signal having a substantially constant value throughout the frequency range.
