  • Patent number: 8068823
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing call setup latency for geographically dense groups including updating client location information using at least one application server while the client moves from one sector to another to provide a location update; identifying and updating parameters including location update information uniquely identifying a sector from which a client is receiving communication service; and determining at least one geographically dense call group; and choosing at least one designated responder to the at least call group. A client per cluster is selected as a designated responder for that cluster and when the server needs to set up a geographically dense group call, a random number is included corresponding to the designated responder for that group in a call setup message.

  • Patent number: 8068475
Abstract: A radio base station apparatus wherein the consumption of transmission power resources in a high-rate packet transmission can be suppressed. In the apparatus, a scheduling part (31) limits the candidates of an upstream line packet transmission rate to part of a plurality of transmission rates indicated by transmission rate combination information, selects an upstream line packet transmission rate from among the limited transmission rate candidates, and creates scheduling result information including transmission rate information indicative of the selected transmission rate. The scheduling result information is wireless transmitted from an antenna (108) to a communication terminal that is permitted to transmit upstream line packets.

  • Patent number: 7894409
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating available throughput of a fixed node in a mobile node of a communication network. The communication network includes fixed nodes connected to a router connected to at least one foreign network and mobile nodes connected to the fixed nodes. A second mobile node is selected from among mobile nodes connected to a fixed node whose available throughput is estimated in a first mobile node. An idle slot interval of the second mobile node connected to the fixed node is set. A transmission probability is measured in one slot interval of the second mobile node through an average of set idle slot intervals. Transmission information of the second mobile node is acquired using the measured transmission probability. The available throughput of the fixed node is estimated using the acquired transmission information.

  • Patent number: 7881252
Abstract: A terminal for use in a wireless network includes a radio frequency (RF) receiver, which is configured to receive and downconvert a RF signal. The RF signal includes a sequence of downlink frames, each downlink frame including at least a map zone followed by a data zone. The map zone contains an indication of a time allocation in the data zone during which downlink data will be transmitted to the terminal. An analog/digital (A/D) converter converts the output signal from the RF receiver into a stream of digital samples. A digital processing circuit processes the digital samples so as to identify the time allocation and to recover the downlink data transmitted during the identified time allocation, while shutting down the RF receiver during at least one interval during the downlink frame that is outside the identified time allocation.

  • Patent number: 7852802
Abstract: A joint scheduling and grouping technique provides uplink throughput maximization for space-division multiple access (SDMA) systems under proportional fairness constraints. In a slow-fading narrowband MIMO multiple access channel (MAC) multiple users, each equipped with multiple transmit antennas, communicate to a receiver equipped with multiple receive antennas. The users are unaware of the channel state information (CSI) whereas the receiver has perfect CSI and employs a successive group decoder (SGD). For an open-loop system, an optimum successive group decoder (OSGD) simultaneously minimizes the common outage probability and the individual outage probability of each user, over all SGDs of permissible decoding complexity. For each channel realization, the OSGD maximizes the error exponent of the decodable set of users. An adaptive SGD retains the outage optimality of the OSGD and minimizes decoding complexity. The SGD yields symmetric capacity gains commensurate with the decoding complexity allowed.

  • Patent number: 7848742
Abstract: Saving bandwidth on the Abis interface in mobile communication systems. When congestion appears on an Abis full rate channel communication is switched over to half rate while keeping full rate on the radio interface. Thereby possibilities are still available for good error correction and control on a highly interfered radio channel.

  • Patent number: 7826832
Abstract: Systems and methods for transferring or conferencing a call between user-accessible communication endpoints are provided. In particular, information related to a call in progress or a connection in progress is stored in removable memory associated with a first user-accessible communication endpoint. The user then removes the removable memory from the first user-accessible communication endpoint, and places it in a second user-accessible communication endpoint. The second user-accessible communication endpoint then calls a network authority, and provides the call information stored on the removable memory to the network authority. In response to receiving the call information, the network authority forks the call to the second user-accessible communication endpoint. The first user-accessible communication endpoint can then be disconnected.

  • Patent number: 7742773
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for determining a position of a wireless communication device. A method includes determining a respective (x,y) position of two wireless communication devices, determining a distance between the two wireless communication devices, and determining a relative elevational differential between the two wireless communication devices. The relative elevational differential is determined based on the determined (x,y) positions of the two wireless communication devices and the determined distance between the first and second wireless communication devices. The (x,y) positions may be determined using GPS receivers incorporated in the wireless communication devices. Determining the distance between the devices may be accomplished using RF ranging. The relative elevational differential may be derived using the Pythagorean theorem.
