Abstract: A slope gain equalizer that corrects a slope of a gain characteristic of an optical signal in a predetermined wavelength bandwidth. An interference filter, which allows insertion losses in a predetermined wavelength region to be inclined in opposite directions between a transmitting direction and a reflecting direction from a short wavelength side to a long wavelength side, is arranged between a dual-core fiber collimator and a single-core fiber collimator facing each other on an optical axis. An optical signal of a predetermined bandwidth inputted from a first or second optical fiber held by the dual-core fiber collimator is reflected by the interference filter and outputted from the second or the first optical fiber. An optical signal inputted from a third optical fiber held by the first optical fiber or the single-core fiber collimator is transmitted through the interference filter and outputted from the third or the first optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 11815783
Abstract: A difference frequency generation optical transmitter and sum frequency generation optical receiver operating in the mid-infrared wavelength range for use in free space optical satellite communications are described. By using mid-infrared light, the transmitter/receiver can mitigate atmospheric scintillation, scattering, and other non-ideal optical effects in the communication channel. This is achieved through the use of nonlinear optical crystals designed for difference frequency generation in the case of the transmitter and sum frequency generation for the receiver. High-speed modulated communication signals can thus be frequency converted to the mid-infrared wavelength range by a relatively low cost, compact and high-power optical communication system.

  • Patent number: 11774678
Abstract: An optical fiber combiner comprises a double-clad fiber (DCF) and one or more multimode fibers (MMFs). DCF comprises a transition portion, a DCF taper portion, and an output section coupling to the DCF taper portion, whereas each of MMFs comprises an MMF taper configured to be fused around DCF in the transition portion. MMFs are configured to carry a combined optical energy (COE) and to couple to DCF. COE passes through the MMF taper with larger divergence of higher-order modes generated and coupled into DCF, whereas the DCF taper portion can partially offset the larger divergence. COE coupled, when traced through the output section, emerges in the air with a smaller output beam divergence of the higher-order modes, thereby preserving some of the higher-order modes in the output section and increasing a coupling efficiency of COE coupled from MMFs to DCF with improved thermal performance.

Abstract: A cavity-enhanced frequency mixer includes an input optical fiber, a waveguide, and an output optical fiber. The waveguide has an input end and an output end, the input end is connected to the input optical fiber, and a surface of the input end of the waveguide is coated with a highly reflective coating. The output optical fiber is formed with a fiber Bragg grating structure. The highly reflective coating and the fiber Bragg grating structure form a pair of reflective surfaces for resonant optical parametric oscillation under a low threshold situation, so that one of the beams generated by the input beam is reflected inside the partially reflective surfaces. Operated above a pump power threshold, the cavity-enhanced frequency mixer is tantamount to a compact, low-power budget optical parametric oscillator, while below the pump power threshold, it is a bright, compact, single-mode and narrow linewidth single-photon source.
