  • Patent number: 8751306
Abstract: A computing system and method for managing an identity of a user are provided. A server may be configured to communicate with each of a plurality of client devices in corresponding request and response streams. An inference engine is configured to monitor the request and response streams for identifying factors that distinguish each of the plurality of client devices from other of the plurality of client devices. Upon detecting one or more of the identifying factors for each of the two or more client devices that match within a threshold probability, the inference engine makes an inference that two or more of the plurality of client devices are used by the user. Based upon the inference, the inference engine creates a virtual identity record at the server linking the two or more client devices.

  • Patent number: 8620739
Abstract: Techniques are described for using loyalty program points and other non-monetary loyalty rewards from a first organization in a monetary manner at a distinct second organization, such as to acquire an item from a merchant at a cost that is reduced by a monetary amount based on the loyalty reward used. In some situations, the first organization programmatically interacts with a merchant to cause a gift certificate to be dynamically created for the merchant in an appropriate monetary amount, and later applies the gift certificate to reduce the cost of the item acquisition. In addition, in some situations such acquiring of items by a user from a merchant is performed based on interactions between the user and the merchant that are performed so as to appear to the user to be with the first organization and such that subsequent interactions continue between the user and the first organization.

  • Patent number: 8615432
Abstract: The present technology presents targeted content, such as a targeted application, within a primary application, in such a fashion that the targeted application is a separate process from the primary application. The targeted application is targeted to a specific user by compiling targeting data, generally describing aspects related to the user and information about the primary application for use by an application server, which processes the targeting data to determine suitable content. The present technology further achieves a balance between the need to protect a user's information and sharing some of this information with trusted sources for selecting targeted content to be displayed within a primary application by providing an operating system process to accept requests and compile targeting data for determined targeted content from the primary application without sharing the targeting data with the primary application.
