  • Patent number: 6609845
Abstract: A printing apparatus, which performs printing by using a full-line type printhead, prints an image in accordance with an attachment angle of the printhead, and automatically performs registration adjustment when using plural printheads. In the apparatus, an angle of the printhead relative to a transfer direction of a print medium is detected, image data received in raster format is divided into plural pixel blocks, the divided pixel blocks are stored into a memory, the order of reading the pixel blocks from the memory is determined based on the detected relative angle, and the read data is transmitted to the printhead and used for printing.

  • Patent number: 6591751
Abstract: A powder apparatus for a sheet-fed rotary printing press includes a nozzle, valve, state detection unit, arithmetic operation unit, and controller. The nozzle sprays powder onto a printed surface of a sheet delivered after printing. The valve adjusts a quantity of powder sprayed from the nozzle. The state detection unit detects a quantity of powder attaching to the sheet. The arithmetic operation unit and controller control the valve on the basis of data output from the state detection unit and indicating a powder quantity.

  • Patent number: 6547384
Abstract: This invention is related to a printer and printing method that prints on recording media with water soluble ink by using an ink jet printer. It is related to the printing method that can create printed images with supreme durability especially on recording media or stiff panels of different thickness with water absorbent surfaces, like wood boards, porous plastic boards, and the like, and on a recording media with water resistant surfaces, like plastic boards, glass or metal plates and the like, to which an emulsion adhesive layer is applied for a printing layer. The printer of the invention has features enabling movement past the print head of media of different thickness and formed as panels while the image surfaces of the panels are vertically properly spaced from the print head for printing.

  • Patent number: 6539860
Abstract: In a rotary press intended to perform the synchronous control of driving means with high precision, quickly stabilize rotation, and reduce spoilage caused by phase shifts, comprising a plurality of printing mechanisms in which driving means M rotate N turns while plate cylinders P rotate one turn, so that printing images can be printed on a paper web sequentially passing through each printing mechanism in such a manner that the printing images are matched with a predetermined reference, in which a control section 3 replaces the rotational phase of the plate cylinder with the rotational phase of the driving means M corresponding to that rotational phase so as to match the printing images with a predetermined reference, converts a shift between the rotational phase of the driving means M for matching and the rotational phase of the driving means M in a normal state into the number of outputs of the first pulse signals, set it as a correction value, and obtains a virtual feedback value by shifting the rotational

  • Patent number: 6536967
Abstract: The present invention detects print data areas set in one-block units with white lines as boundaries, calculates division numbers for divisionally driving a line head every areas extending in its main scan direction to thereby output print data when the numbers of dots set every lines in the print data areas exceed the maximum number of printable dots set by a head drive unit, detects maximum division numbers n in the print data areas, sets paper feed velocities V1 through V4 in inverse proportion to the maximum division numbers n respectively, and executes printing in the print data areas set in the one-block units on the condition that the line head is divisionally driven with the maximum division numbers n and paper is fed at the set paper feed velocities V1 through V4. Thus, a reduction in power consumption can be satisfied. Since it is possible to increase a paper feed velocity in proportion as a print data area low in the number of dots in particular, the speeding up of printing can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6533477
Abstract: There is disclosed a thermosensitive line printer, wherein a heating element array of a thermal head is pressed on a thermosensitive recording paper at a distance L2 from a nipping position by a pair of conveyer rollers, and is driven to record an image frame line by line from a print starting end, as the recording paper is conveyed by the conveyer rollers in a direction from the thermal head to the conveyer rollers. Based on image data of an upper zone of an image frame that is to be recorded around the distance L2 from the print starting end if the image frame is recorded from its top side, an image analyzer calculates a first estimation value that represents conspicuousness of potential density deviation in the upper zone that could be caused by a thermal deformation of the thermosensitive recording paper at the print starting end if the image frame is recorded from the top side.

  • Patent number: 6467895
Abstract: Media is transported to an imaging region using a vacuum feeder. A vacuum head is positioned onto the media and a vacuum is applied to the vacuum head to hold the media against the vacuum head. The vacuum head is then relocated to the imaging region carrying with it the media. In one embodiment, the vacuum head holds the media slightly above the surface of the imaging region. After the media is imaged, the vacuum head moves the media to an output region. In the output region the vacuum is removed from the vacuum head allowing the media to detach from the vacuum head and remain in the output region. In another embodiment, the vacuum is removed from the vacuum head allowing the media to detach from the vacuum head and remain in the imaging region. A second vacuum head is positioned in the imaging region onto the media and a vacuum is applied to the second vacuum head to hold the media against the second vacuum head. The second vacuum head is then relocated to the output region carrying with it the media.
