  • Patent number: 6257781
Abstract: A printer including two adjacent printing stations has a print head attached to a carriage moved through both printing stations, with a home position for the carriage being established between the printing stations. Data describing the position of the carriage, generated with the movement of the carriage, is reset as the carriage is moved past the home position, as indicated by a position detector. If this data is corrupted or lost, the carriage is driven in a first direction until the home position is reached or until a first end of travel position is reached, whichever occurs first. At this end of travel position, a tab extending downward from the carriage comes into contact with a tab extending upward from a sliding bracket on which an idler pulley within a belt drive system, causing movement of the carriage, is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6250754
Abstract: The printer comprises a first receptacle (11) for the sheets to be printed, a sheet feeding path (27) with a printing zone (14) and a second receptacle (15) for the printed sheets. The latter is integral with an intermediate storing device having storage trays (42, 43) thus forming a group (44) which can be pivoted about a shaft (45). The sheets printed on a first face are fed by conveying members (57) into the storage trays, retained for drying, fed again into the feeding path (27) where they are reversed for printing on their second face and then arranged in the second receptacle (15). Accordingly a duplex printer is obtained, which can be used reliably with ink jet printheads, and which works dependably, has low overall dimensions and is simple and inexpensive to build.

  • Patent number: 6241405
Abstract: A printer head for a Braille printer includes a housing formed with first and second series of opposing openings. First devices adapted to receive Braille paper to be taken up in the housing and second devices arranged in the housing to apply raised dots onto the paper are accommodated in the first and second series of openings formed in the housing. The housing includes a base section designed as one piece with a channel-shaped space where the devices that apply the raised dots onto the Braille paper are accommodated in the first and second series of opposing openings. The first and second series of opposing openings in the one piece base section are formed in a same mounting so as to be substantially coaxially aligned as a mutual pair, whereby the devices are arranged mutually opposite to each other in the channel-shaped space at a predetermined distance from one another with centers of axes aligned.

  • Patent number: 6231249
Abstract: A duplex printer for printing on opposite sides of a document includes a ribbon shifting mechanism for moving a printing ribbon between a first position, in which the ribbon extends between a print head and the document for printing on a front side of the document, and a second position, in which the ribbon extends between the document and a platen for printing on a reverse side of the document. In one version of the printer, the ribbon is shifted as a carriage used to move the print head within a printing range, within which printing occurs, is moved outside this printing range into a ribbon shifting range.

  • Patent number: 6164202
Abstract: A stamp unit 1 comprises a holder 4 which is to be set in a holder storage part 70 of a stamp manufacturing device for making a stamping surface on a stamp material 3 held in the holder 4. When the holder 4 is set in the storage part 70, the cam effect is generated between the positioning projection 77 of a fixing member 71 and a slant recess 43 of the holder 4, thereby positioning the holder 4 to a predetermined stamp making position in the storage part 70. In a state where the holder 4 is positioned in place, microswitches 75A and others disposed near the projection 77 of the storage part 70 are selectively turned on and off by cooperation between detection recesses 44 and a peripheral wall 38 of the holder 4, so that the existence and the type (size) of the holder 4 are detected.

  • Patent number: 6146037
Abstract: A method and apparatus for indicating the condition of a printer is provided. In an inkjet printer having at least one pen that is mounted in a carriage that moves back and forth across the media, the printer status is determined by a controller in the printer which communicates with the pen. The carriage containing the pens is used as a pointer and has is set to a desired carriage position to point to a selected icon from a set of icons located on a top surface adjacent to the carriage. Each of the icons indicates a printer status such as low ink level or a pen problem. The carriage and the set of icons may be located under a lid. When the user lifts the lid such as in response to a print cartridge status light that is illuminated on the control panel, the carriage is set to the desired carriage position to indicate the appropriate printer status. The icons are chosen in such a manner as to be universally understandable and with no need for localization to a particular market.

  • Patent number: 6129462
Abstract: There is provided a printing apparatus for printing on a continuous tape. When a portion of a continuous tape having passed a thermal head is cut at a predetermined cutting position, a stepping motor is caused to stop driving the platen roller for rotation to stop feeding of the tape, and then the tape is cut off. During tape-cutting operation, the stepping motor is held in an energized state. When the printing operation is resumed after stopping the feeding and printing of the tape, the thermal head is caused to print on a portion of the tape printed by an immediately preceding printing operation by the thermal head, in an overlapping manner, by the use of identical printing data or printing data for a next line of dots.

  • Patent number: 6116795
Abstract: To maintain a high precision of a line feeding amount of a paper sheet regardless of the processing precision of a paper feed roller. Relationships between paper line feeding amounts of a paper feed roller at division positions divided into a plurality of parts with reference to an origin of a rotation angle of the paper feed roller and step counts of a paper feed motor are measured to calculate a correction value for correcting the step counts of the paper feed motor, the step counts of the paper feed motor in a line feeding operation are controlled on the basis of the correction value. When a paper feeding operation of a paper sheet whose type is except for the type of the paper sheet used in measurement is performed, a central step count of a base step count at a desired division position is calculated, and the central step count is compared with the measured central step counts of the base steps at the division positions.
