Patent number: 5771723Abstract: A key cylinder device in which, in a locked state, a lock-releasing mechanism is provided so as not to operate even if a cylinder case swings. When a first lever rotates in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the cylinder case, a shaft provided on a second lever extends from a side surface of the second lever and engages with a third lever to move a rod attached to the third lever in a lock-releasing direction. Further, when the first lever does not move relatively with respect to the cylinder case, even if the cylinder case swings, the shaft does not extend from the side surface of the second lever and does not engage with the third lever. For this reason, there is no possibility that the rod attached to the third lever move in the lock-releasing direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Masahiko Itoh

Patent number: 5765411Abstract: A security bar that can be retrofitted onto a gate used in a typical fence construction to prevent unauthorized tampering with or opening of the gate. The device includes a rigid locking bar that is firmly mounted to the gate, a T-shaped strike plate, and a key-actuated latchbolt mechanism mounted within the inside of the rigid locking bar so that the latchbolt and strike plate cannot be accessed for tampering. The strike plate is mounted to a conventional fence post with fasteners that are not accessible when the gate is closed. Using the present device, which can be retrofitted to any type of outdoor gate, a positive locking action insures that the gate is locked at all times and cannot be jimmied or pulled upward to a position that would allow it to be opened. The locking mechanism allows access from either side of the gate for actuation.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Inventor: William Rowan

Patent number: 5758528Abstract: The present invention provides a system of locking the type of lock which has a cylinder constituted by a static body or barrel and by a rotatory body or core, equipped with a multiplicity of radial assemblies or key sequences. The lock contains at least one pair of tumblers mounted against a common impeller spring. The lock sequences of which each operate in relation to respective indentations formed by the tooth-like cutting of the active edge of a key blade. The cylinder for six or five key sequences all of which are spring-loaded. The key corresponding to the cylinder and having corresponding indentations. A removable plug or stop which is selectively placed or removed with respect to the opening at back, is situated farther to the rear of the channel for insertion of the key into the rotatable body or core. The position of the removable plug or stop being such as to displace a step or an amplitude of the distance between the axes of two successive key sequences.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Talleres de Escoriaza, S.A.Inventor: Luis Valdajos Gallego

Patent number: 5758529Abstract: A housing for externally mounting an electronic lock to a support structure has a conical sidewall joining front and rear faces of the housing. A cavity extending to the front and rear faces receives the electronic lock, such that a key access face of the lock coincides with the housing's front face. The rear face of the housing has an indented region to which a pivot bracket is mounted. The pivot bracket rotatably engages a pivot shaft coupled to a hinge plate of a pivotable front cover, which is spring biased against the front face of the housing. The housings's conical sidewall has a slot intersecting the indented region. The hinge plate is configured to conform with the slot and the housing sidewall, when the cover is closed against the front face of the housing. A rear end of the hinge plate is tapered so that as said hinge plate rotates about its pivot axis, it clears the structure to which the housing is mounted.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Intellikey CorporationInventor: KN Singh Chhatwal

Patent number: 5758527Abstract: A high security deadbolt assembly for a door which bolt has a housing extending from the edge of the door inwardly of the transverse bore between the door surface. A deadbolt is reciprocable in the housing and has a recess at its inner end. A cylindrical drive member is rotatively supported in the housing and is located with or is aligned with the deadbolt recess. The drive member carries a stop and is connected to the bolt by a linkage. When locked, a substantial portion of the length of the bolt remains engaged in the bolt housing and door so that attempts at forcing the bolt to the unlocked position are resisted by the stop which stop engages an internal surface of the bolt recess. The components are made from high strength materials and the deadbolt assembly may be retrofit to existing lock cylinders with a minimum of installation modifications.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Securitron Magnalock Corp.Inventor: Alois Crepinsek

Patent number: 5755121Abstract: A lock in which a key can neither be turned nor removed with the lock is open, is disclosed. The lock body is formed from two identical sections, the inner surface of each being provided with formations which accommodate the moving parts of the lock. The lock cylinder is provided with a plug which is operatively engaged to an extension. The lock shackle is engaged by a lock bearing which is held in place by the extension. Turning the key turns the plug and thus, the extension. This disengages the lock shackle as the lock bearing is no longer held in place. After it has been retracted, the contour of the lock shackle abuts the lock bearing, causing it to engage the extension, thus preventing the extension, the plug and the key from being turned.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Master Lock CompanyInventor: Bruce Allen Crass

Patent number: 5755122Abstract: Two hinged parts (12) and (14) are moved about a pivot (34) to trap a steering wheel between them. A pivotally mounted locking bar (22) on the part (12) has openings (30). The bar (22) could be swung down about its pivot (32) such that a selected one of these openings moves over a loop (28) extending on the other half (14). A padlock can then be passed through the loop (28) to lock the device in position. In a storage configuration the locking bar (28) can be swung down into the space normally occupied by the wheel and trapped between the two parts.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1995Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Inventor: Mark Christopher Higginson

Patent number: 5743048Abstract: A refrigerator door includes walls forming therebetween a space that is filled with foam insulation. A door-locking device is mounted in the space and is covered by a shield which shields the door-locking device from the foam when the foam is being injected into the space. The shield includes a mounting edge facing one of the walls and forming a slight gap therewith into which the foam can travel. The edge includes a channel which forms an enlargement in the gap that ensures that the incoming foam hardens before reaching the interior of the shield and damaging the door-locking device.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Chang Yong Kim

Patent number: 5738476Abstract: A plastic fastener for securing moldings to frames in vehicles. The fastener includes minor slots formed in the fastener and adjacent to a coupling structure. The minor slots provide sufficient flexibility to allow the fastener to flex inward under pressure, thereby permitting the coupling structure to move between an engagement position and a retracted position. The fastener is pushed through an opening in the frame. The opening is sized such that the edges of the opening apply pressure to the fastener as it moves through the opening, thereby moving the coupling structure toward its retracted position. When the fastener completely in the opening, the pressure is relieved, and the coupling structure snaps back to its engagement position, thereby engaging the edges of the opening and securing the fastener thereto. The fastener may be removed from the opening by applying sufficient pressure to again move the coupling structure to its retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1996Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: MacLean-Fogg CompanyInventor: Angelo Assimakopoulos
