Abstract: A coupling mechanism for removably connecting a fluid line to an apparatus such as a mass flow controller and includes a flange member for connection to the apparatus so that it is cantilevered from the apparatus and provides a fluid connection with a bore opening that is vertically aligned. A yoke member is dimensioned to extend over the flange member and have a corresponding fluid conduit and bore that can be aligned vertically with the bore opening on the flange member. A seal member can be positioned between the yoke member and the flange member. A spacer member is mounted in the yoke member and a fastener member can be aligned vertically to exert a force on the flange member to apply a sealing pressure to the seal member while locking the yoke member to the flange member.

  • Patent number: 5899507
Abstract: A collet-type pipe coupling of simplified construction includes three main flange parts and a grip structure. The main flange parts are machined or otherwise formed with plain shapes. One flange is welded to an associated length of pipe or other body and all of the flanges are assembled over a separate length of pipe. A first set of bolts is tightened to compress a packing carried in the welded flange with an intermediate flange. A second set of bolts draws a flange collar towards the intermediate flange to constrict the grip structure radially into locking engagement with the separate length of pipe to complete a coupling installation.

  • Patent number: 5899235
Abstract: A ferrule includes a tubular wall and end wall which is divided into radially extending fingers, each of which terminates at a barb member formed by deflecting a tapered end portion of the finger. The end wall fingers extend orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the tubular wall and the barb members are each inclined at an acute angle to the carrying fingers and axis such that when a tubular body, such as a braided or like textile sleeve, is received in the tubular wall and the end all is swaged to cause the fingers to enter the body and lie flat against the tubular wall, the bars are caused to penetrate the body and be flattened by the tubular wall to point in the direction towards the body end and inhibit its removal. The tubular wall may be circumferentially continuous (annular) or discontinuous (slit) and openable.

  • Patent number: 5897145
Abstract: A connector includes a tube-shaped male member, a female member, an engagement member, and a checking member. The male member has a ring-shaped convexity. The female member has a substantially cylinder-shaped housing. The housing has a pair of widows having a peripheral end and a peripheral edge. The checking member has a letter C-shaped portion, and a pair of engagement convexities. The engagement convexities has a first engaging portion, a leading-end contacting portion, and an inclined second engaging portion. The first engaging portion engages with the peripheral end of the windows of the housing so as to inhibit the checking member from coming off from the housing in a direction perpendicular to an axial direction before the male member is connected with the female member. The leading-end contacting portion is pressed by the ring-shaped convexity to move outwardly in a radial direction so as to diametrically enlarge the letter C-shaped portion when the fitting of the male member is completed.

  • Patent number: 5890745
Abstract: A method for producing a microfluidic coupler includes the step of producing a first mask on a top surface of a wafer. The first mask defines an insertion channel pattern selected to correspond to the cross sectional shape of a capillary. The wafer is etched through the first mask to form an insertion channel. A second mask is produced on a bottom surface of the wafer. The second mask defines a subchannel pattern selected to match the diameter of the bore of the capillary. The wafer is etched through the second mask to form a subchannel connected to the insertion channel. The capillary is inserted into the insertion channel such that the capillary is in fluid communication with the subchannel. In one embodiment, a capillary guide is secured to the wafer to facilitate insertion of the capillary into the insertion channel. The capillary guide has a tapered guide channel aligned with the insertion channel for guiding the capillary into the insertion channel.
