  • Patent number: 6173996
Abstract: A method is used for interfacing materials of dissimilar thermal expansion in an X-ray tube. Initially, a first joint is identified, which has a first component to be received into a second component. Typically, the first component has a higher coefficient of expansion than the second component, so the purpose of the invention is to reduce the physical expansion of that component in the joint. A plurality of slots is introduced along the approximate axial length of a coupling member at the joint, to achieve the aforementioned purpose. The coupling member is provided between the two components, and has a thermal expansion rate greater than one component and less than the other component.

  • Patent number: 6173999
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a tube coupling device comprising a cylindrical cartridge having a throughway containing a tube locking device for locking a tube inserted into the throughway at one end of the cartridge. The outer side of the cartridge has an encircling rebate at said one end in which a grab ring of V-shaped cross-section is mounted with the V diverging towards said one end. One outer limb of the V projects outwardly of the outer cylindrical surface of the cartridge in its relaxed condition to grip and lock the cartridge in a bore in a further component.

  • Patent number: 6173997
Abstract: A flexible entry boot assembly provides a fluid-tight fitting between a wall of a fluid containment region and a conduit passing through the wall. The flexible entry boot assembly comprises a seal member disposed within the containment region. A securing plate, disposed within the containment region, is releasably mounted to the seal member. A hollow support sleeve, integral with the seal member, extends axially into the containment region. The support sleeve has an outer surface and an inner, conduit receiving surface, and further has a degree of flexibility sufficient to allow for the insertion of the conduit at angles equal to or other than an angle normal to the fluid containment wall while maintaining a fluid-tight environment. The flexible boot assembly further comprises a mechanism for releasably attaching the hollow support sleeve to the conduit. A flexible, corrosion resistant sealing ring member is disposed outside the containment region.

  • Patent number: 6170885
Abstract: The invention is a device for providing a clamping force about a connection end of elastomeric hose or tubing. The device includes an at-least-twice-oriented polymer having a shrinkage response to each of at least two diameter reducing release temperatures, which is sized and formed into a band. The clamp is self-adjusting over a substantial working life. The band may be installed onto connection ends of hose or tubing and fixtures such as couplings, inserts or stems without the external application of heat, preferably preselecting the first diameter reducing release temperature to be at roughly room temperature. The clamp displays improved constrictive forces over prior art polymer clamps.

  • Patent number: 6170888
Abstract: A conduit connection joint is formed to connect a tube (10) and afitting body (12) in fluid tight relation. The joint is made by axially compressing the tube (10) in a bore (14) in the fitting body (12) so as to cause formation of a first bead (52) in a bead formation area. Further axial compression of the tube (10) causes the sequential formation of an additional bead (54) in the bore (14) so as to provide engagement between the tube (10) and the fitting body (12). The engagement of the fitting body (12) and the tube (10) may be further strengthened by axially compressing and radially expanding the beads (52, 54).

  • Patent number: 6170886
Abstract: A quick connector (10) has a pair of waist segments (76 and 81), a shoulder segment (163), a body segment (72) with an aperture (156) therein, and a leg segment (78). The leg segment (78) is defined by a pair of projecting elements (163) which are at least partially compressible toward one another thereby causing the pair of waist segments (76 and 81) to move toward one another. Thus, a swivellable connection is made which has the equivalent length and diameter of a convention non-swivellable threaded coupling. The quick connector (10) may be released by hand or a snap ring tool inserted into holes (410).

  • Patent number: 6168210
Abstract: A pipe coupling (10) for coupling and sealing adjacent ends of two pipe sections (12, 14) of the same or different outer diameters. The pipe coupling (10) includes an annular sleeve (24), a pair of annular gaskets (22) and a pair of follower flanges (20) that surround the adjacent ends of the pipe sections (12, 14). The gaskets (22) have inclined front walls (42) that are angled generally complementary to clamping surfaces (28) formed at opposite ends of the sleeve (24). The gaskets further include inclined back walls (52). As the follower flanges (20) are urged toward the opposite ends of the sleeve (24), the inclined back walls (52) of the gaskets (22) cooperate with skirts (32) formed on the follower flanges (22) to cause the gaskets (22) to readily toe-in toward the outer walls of the pipe sections (12, 14) at relatively low torque and cause sealing engagement with pipe ends sections (12, 14).

  • Patent number: 6164705
Abstract: Pipes are securely connected by an annular gasket. The gasket includes an inner portion, an outer portion situated radially outwardly of the inner portion, and a resilient connecting portion for connecting the inner and outer portions at one side of the gasket. The pipes to be connected includes male and female pipes. The male pipe has a first engaging section to be engaged with the inner portion of the gasket, and the female pipe for receiving therein the male pipe has a second engaging section at one side thereof. The second engaging section engages the outer portion of the gasket while restricting movement of the gasket when the gasket and the pipes are engaged together.

  • Patent number: 6158780
Abstract: A coupling for use in supplying air pressure to an air driven pump on a pallet is disclosed. The male half of the coupling is affixed to a pallet changing station and the female half is suspended from a pallet. Suspension of the female half from the pallet enables the male and the female half to couple despite misalignment. The male half includes two pistons and the female half includes a power port, a vent port and a central port. The power port is connected to an air driven hydraulic pump and the control port is connected to a pilot on a four-way valve. The hydraulic pump operates vides contained on the pallets. The number of vices operable is only limited by the capacity of the hydraulic reservoir located in the pallet.
