  • Patent number: 5785029
Abstract: To attain a kinematically advantageous buckling capacity in the connecting rod in a reciprocating piston engine, especially an internal combustion engine, with a hypocycloidal crank shaft drive that works together with a connecting rod which is connected at both ends to pistons in diametrically opposite cylinders and which is designed for buckling to compensate deviations in tolerances, the invention provides that the connecting rod is formed from rod segments arranged for angular movement about the axis of the bearing throughhole, the angular movements of the rod segments being elastically limited as a function of permissible tilting movements of the pistons, which are rigidly connected to the corresponding rod segments.

  • Patent number: 5782466
Abstract: Finishing operations on media processing jobs, such as from laser printer or photocopier devices, are performed in an intermediate output bin and subsequently transferred to a final output bin. One or more finishing mechanisms are disposed to cooperate with the intermediate output bin for performing finishing operations on the media in sequential order. A transfer mechanism operates to move the media from finishing operation to finishing operation in the intermediate output bin, and subsequently to the final output bin once the finishing operations are complete. The final output bin is thus capable of storing multiple finished jobs. The finishing operations may be a registration (alignment) process, a binding process, a hole punching process, and the like.

  • Patent number: 5782219
Abstract: The reciprocating engine more particularly intended for high pressure applications or motor vehicle CO.sub.2 air conditioning systems, has a wobble plate transmission, whose wobble plate (3) can assume different inclined positions for power control purposes. For this purpose is provided a wobble joint constructed as a knuckle joint, allowing the tilting movement of the wobble plate (3) supported on the engine shaft (4) through a slot guide (11, 11') of a driving pin (9). A good controllability of the reciprocating engine results from friction-reducing engine components provided on the driving pin (9) and comprising bearings (32, 33), which allow a rotation of the driving pin (9) about its longitudinal axis, as well as a sliding bush or a roller bearing (47) on one of the pin ends (40, 43) engaging in slot guides (11, 11'). In addition, in the vicinity of the more strongly loaded pin end is provided an axial force-absorbing sliding disk (42).

  • Patent number: 5778838
Abstract: A four-cycle internal combustion engine wherein the piston connecting rod crankshaft and crankcase chamber are formed so that the crankcase chamber acts as compressor. An induction system supplies atmospheric air to the crankcase chamber and a pressure conduit supplies air from the crankcase chamber to the engine intake valve. A plenum chamber is disposed within this pressure conduit and pressure control is possible by bypassing air form the plenum chamber to the atmospheric air inlet. A throttle valve is positioned downstream of the plenum chamber so as to improve engine braking and charge forming systems are disclosed that permit a compact assembly and good response under all engine running conditions.

  • Patent number: 5775273
Abstract: A free piston internal combustion engine having improved valve timing. A pair of oppositely disposed combustion chamber passageways extending between the combustion chamber and the earth's atmosphere, each have a combustion chamber valve for controlling the passage of gas through the passageways. The combustion chamber valves are essentially simultaneously opened and closed to permit independent variation and control of the compression ratio, expansion ratio, and stroke of the engine. When the valves are opened, the combustion chamber is purged or supercharged with combustion supporting air, and closed to initiate compression. Variable control of the piston positions at which the valves are opened and closed permits the engine to operate at a high efficiency over a broad range of power output loading conditions.

  • Patent number: 5769040
Abstract: An improved two cycle internal combustion engine, preferably of a stepped piston type, having a unique arcuately shaped transfer deflector valve, which varies by its controlled sliding movement within an inlet passage, the size of exposed opening of an elongated inlet port in the cylinder. The inlet port extends circumferentially part way around the cylinder. The leading end of the valve is preferably angled, in cooperation with the preferably almost tangent orientation of the inlet passage, to induce arcuate movement into each fresh full charge entering the combustion chamber for enhanced fuel charge mixing. In the preferred embodiment, two such valves are symmetrically positioned around the cylinder and arcuately move in unison between closed and open positions over corresponding opposing inlet ports.

  • Patent number: 5769048
Abstract: The present inventions concern rocking-piston engines and rocking-piston compressors of high efficiency. This is achieved by an arrangement in which the piston crown lies on a circular cylinder whose center coincides with the center of the connecting rod bearing and the inner face of the cylinder head lies on a circular cylinder whose center coincides with the center of the crankshaft bearing; and whereby these cylinders are in mutual rolling sealing contact in the vicinity of the top dead center. Additional means help to ensure, for an engine, that the crankshaft is driven before the top dead center or, for a compressor, that optimal compression with regard to flow is achieved with the smallest possible dead volume.
