  • Patent number: 10625647
Abstract: Seatback support structures may allow a user to selectively adjust the effective stiffness of a seat, between a plurality of settings, to increase individualized comfort for the user. A plurality of stabilizing members may be cantilevered with respect to a base member, with the amount of deflection of the stabilizing members in response to a given load being variable via a stiffness adjustment mechanism of the seatback support structure. Said stiffness adjustment mechanism may include a linkage that is mechanically moved with respect to the stabilizing members to adjust the weight distribution amongst the stabilizing members, thereby adjusting the effective stiffness of the seatback support structure. Such seatback support structures may be configured to operate substantially irrespective to changes in air pressure, and may be incorporated into any number of passenger seats, such as on aircraft, trains, and other vehicles. Methods of forming such seatback support structures are also disclosed.
