Patent number: 4783069Abstract: An exercising and training apparatus particularly for use for training for alpine skiing. The apparatus comprises a frame having a platform pivotably secured to the frame for movement from side-to-side through a convex arcuate path to provide lateral motion for the user's feet and an accentuated degree of forced vertical motion. At the same time the platform tilts to the outside as it moves through its arcuate path. The platform is associated with spring biasing means to increase the resistance against sideways movement of the platform increasingly with sideways movement. The apparatus according to the present invention closely duplicates the motion and rhythm required in alpine skiing and thus improves skiing techniques as it strengthens the user's leg muscles.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1987Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Assignee: Dryland Kinetics, Inc.Inventor: John J. Patent number: 4781483Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for exposing a mass (3) stored in a container (2). Disposed in container (2) is a conventional follower piston (5), the dispensing opening (4) of container (2) being closed by a removable closure cap (11). For generating a vacuum between mass (3) and closure cap (11) there is provided a circumferential gasket (15) disposed between an outer wall portion (9) of container (2) and closure cap (11). For avoiding early wear of this circumferential gasket (15) and the resultant loss of its sealing properties, the invention provides that on removal of the closure cap (11) the circumferential gasket (15) is positively forced into sealing engagement with the outer wall portion (9) of the container (2) by a force generated by the removal of the closure cap and acting in the direction towards said outer wall portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1986Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Inventor: Willy Lorscheidt

Patent number: 4781482Abstract: A glue gun includes a glue stick feed path, a heating assembly in the feed path and a glue stick feeding system. A trigger includes a gear rack extending along its upper surface and the feeding system further includes a pinion having rim teeth which engage a glue stick positioned in the feed path. The trigger is mounted for movement in a direction substantially parallel to the glue stick feed path axis and drives the pinion to advance the glue stick, when the trigger is squeezed. The trigger includes a pin extending in a guiding channel of the glue gun to permit tilting the rack toward the glue stick feed path. The pinion is mounted in a channel for displacement perpendicular to the feed path axis so that it bears against the glue stick when the trigger is tilted. The pinion may be provided with two rows of rim teeth and a portion of the glue stick periphery may extend into a trough formed between the rows.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1987Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Test-Rite Products Corp.Inventor: Reinhard Ursprung

Patent number: 4772287Abstract: By implanting two prosthetic disc capsules side-by-side into a damaged disc of a human spine, both height and motion, including front-to-back bending, can be maintained. The prosthetic disc capsules have an outer layer of strong, inert fibers intermingled with a bioresorbable material which attracts tissue ingrowth, a bladder enveloped by the layer, and a thixotropic gel filling the bladder. The prosthetic disc capsules can be surgically implanted by (1) jacking apart the vertebrae adjacent a damaged disc, (2) forming a substantially sagital bore in the damaged disc near each of its lateral edges, and (3) inserting one of the capsules axially into each bore.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: CeDaR Surgical, Inc.Inventors: Charles D. Patent number: 4770558Abstract: In an ink writing instrument, the ink storage space is divided into individual chambers that are inside the housing and are arranged axially one behind one another. The chambers are connected with the writing point by an ink guide. The ink-filled chambers are emptied one after the other by capillaries in the ink guide, air entering the chambers by a ventilation duct in the mouthpiece and the capillary ventilation openings. When ink is removed, no enclosed air volume is formed inside the storage space. In a second embodiment, the chambers are emptied simultaneously, the ventilation duct being opposite the writing point.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1987Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4767025Abstract: In a hand tool for the mixing and metered dispensing of a two-component mass, a container holding a solid component mass is mounted in a handgun-like shaped support member. A mixing chamber is aligned with and mounted on one end of the container for mixing the components of the mass. A motor in the support member drives a drive shaft extending axially through the container. A mixing worm is connected to the drive shaft and is located within the mixing chamber. A metering pump is located within the support member for delivering a liquid component of the mass from a tank. The metering pump is a hose pump powered by the drive shaft. A conveying helix is positioned on the drive shaft in the container. Accordingly, since the drive shaft powers the metering pump and the conveying helix, a fixed mixture ratio of the solid and liquid components is delivered into the mixing chamber independently of the quantity dispensed. The mixed components flow out of the mixing chamber through a dispensing nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1986Date of Patent: August 30, 1988Assignee: Hilti AktiengesellschaftInventors: Ludwig Gebauer, Peter Mauthe
