  • Patent number: 5593722
Abstract: A method is provided for easily producing thick multi-layer substrates maintaining highly accurate resistances with little variation. A thick-film resistor 6 on a ceramic substrate 1 is fired at a temperature higher than the temperature of firing a glass insulating layer 2 that is formed thereon in contact therewith. This makes it possible to decrease the change in the resistance in a subsequent high-temperature step of firing the glass insulating layers 2 to 4. Moreover, after the glass insulating layer 2 is formed on the thick-film resistor 6 on the ceramic substrate 1, laser trimming is effected through a window or the glass insulating layer 2 and, thereafter, the glass insulating layers 3 and 4 are formed. This makes it possible to decrease the change in the resistance of the thick-film resistor 6 after laser trimming and to reduce the laser output.

  • Patent number: 5593781
Abstract: In the method described, the degree of agglomeration of the nanometer-size particles can be readily checked, thus enabling dispersions of particles of this kind to be produced with high solids contents. The method calls for the unmodified powder to be dispersed in water and/or an organic solvent in the presence of a low-molecular organic compound including a functional group which can react and/or interact with groups present on the surface of the powder particles. The dispersant may subsequently be wholly or partly removed.

  • Patent number: 5565241
Abstract: A convergent end-effector which combines a liquid and dry flow external to a spray nozzle eliminates clogging problems common in the prior art spray coating systems. The end-effector utilizes a nozzle with an orifice and at least one atomizing hole, a conduit for directing a liquid resin through the nozzle and an outer housing disposed around said conduit to form a cavity. Reinforcing material enters the cavity on an gas stream supplied and controlled by an eductor located prior to the outer housing, in the direction of the nozzle, and at an angle of less than about 90.degree. with respect to the conduit. The end of the conduit near the nozzle is preferably angled toward the nozzle to further direct the reinforcing material into the liquid resin.

  • Patent number: 5565244
Abstract: The coating method contains a spraying step in which a paint is sprayed at least on a coating substrate extending in an upward and downward direction to a film thickness thicker than causing sages of the sprayed paint. The coating substrate on which the paint is sprayed is rotated about the horizontal axis while the sprayed paint is dried until it does not sag any more. The coating apparatus includes a carriage conveying the coating substrate arranged to run along the conveying direction, and the carriage is provided with a supporting base for supporting the coating substrate rotatively about the horizontal axis. One embodiment for rotating the substrate supported by the supporting base is a spring that is disposed on the carriage to rotate the substrate by means of a restoring force produced by the spring. On the passage for conveying the carriage is disposed a force storing mechanism for storing the restoring force in the spring that released the restoring force.

Abstract: Mg.sub.x Al.sub.2-2x Ti.sub.1+x O.sub.5 (x.ltoreq.0.2) protective coatings have been developed for both dense and porous substrates, such as SiC and Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, using a chemical solution processing method involving the hydrolysis and condensation of magnesium, aluminum and titanium precursors. The solution viscosities, pH values, H.sub.2 O/alkoxide molar ratios, and dip coating withdrawal rates which are optimum for crack-free Mg.sub.x Al.sub.2-2x Ti.sub.1+x O.sub.5 (x.ltoreq.0.2) are 1.0 to 6.2 cP, pH 1-4.5, molar ratio 1.5-10, and withdrawal rate of 2.2-8.0 cm/min, respectively. Conversion of the amorphous coating to crystalline Mg.sub.x Al.sub.2-2x Ti.sub.1+x O.sub.5 (x.ltoreq.0.2) is achieved by a succession of calcination below 450.degree. C. and a final heat treatment above 1000.degree. C. for ten hours with controlled heating and cooling rates.

  • Patent number: 5552189
Abstract: A device and process for applying decorative paint to an article of clothing such as a T-shirt or sweatshirt. The device comprises a valve/nozzle assembly and a plurality of disposable, single-use cartridges of pressurized paint. The valve/nozzle assembly includes a threaded fitting having a piercing member extending therefrom that pierces a cover on a selected cartridge as the cartridge is threaded over the fitting. Upon piercing the cover, paint is forced upwardly into a valved passageway within the valve/nozzle assembly. A hinged lever is operatively coupled to the valve such that as the lever is depressed, a spray of paint is released through the nozzle at the end of the valve/nozzle assembly and onto the garment. Thereafter, the cartridge is removed and a second cartridge of paint thinner is attached to the valve/nozzle assembly. Again, the lever is depressed to release a spray of paint thinner through the valve/nozzle assembly for cleansing same.
