  • Patent number: 4607773
Abstract: A utility bracket with an adjustable cross bar used to haul articles and merchandise normally too long to fit inside a vehicle. The brackets are "S" shaped brackets formed of rod or tubing with a resilient tubular pad thereon through substantially the length of one of the loops of each bracket. The utility brackets are designed primarily for use by pairs mounted on a vehicle with the padded loops thereof extended, respectively, through the two passenger side windows of a four door car, through a window and over a side edge of a trunk, or a passenger side window and the side edge of the bed of a truck. The cross bar on each bracket is adjustable to adapt to substantially any car outer side contour with the cross bar adjustable vertically and horizontally to distribute weight laterally. The cross bar is also padded with resilient tubular padding to protect a car's outer finish.

  • Patent number: 4605144
Abstract: A support mounting for support of a percussion instrument such as a drum or the like with respect to a carrier frame wherein the mounting structure includes inner and outer clamp elements which are engageable with a side wall portion of the instrument and an elongated, selectively releasable fastener secures the clamp elements with respect to the carrier frame. A rotary constraint precludes rotation of the instrument with respect to the support mounting and either the elongated fastener or the rotary constraint is effective to maintain the inner and outer clamp elements in clamping engagement with an instrument side wall portion therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4601419
Abstract: A vehicle carrier is formed from a flexible mat with suction cups along its bottom surface and raised ridges along the sides of its upper surface. A plurality of slots are provided in these raised ridges. Rigid retaining bars located along the raised ridges are connected to tie straps which pass through the slots and surround the retaining bars. These tie straps then extend back through the slot and connect to the vehicle. Additional tie straps connect to the rigid retaining bar and are secured about a load carried on the mat. Because of the flexible material the mat is made of, it can be rolled into a cylindrical shape and stored in the vehicle trunk along with the retaining bars and tie straps.

  • Patent number: 4600133
Abstract: A holder or holster for a foldable knife in which the knife has a handle and a blade pivotably mounted to the handle is provided. The holster has a cam-fulcrum therein which bridges a forward portion thereof proximate the exit for the handle of the knife. The holster has a chamber therein to receive and hold the knife in a partially-folded position around the cam-fulcrum so that on withdrawal of the knife, the blade contacts and pivots around the cam-fulcrum and opens relative to the handle so that the knife is withdrawn from the holster in an open position. The holster can also have a second cam-fulcrum which bridges a rearward portion thereof so that on insertion of the knife into the holster, the back edge of the blade contacts such cam-fulcrum and is folded toward the handle as the handle advances into the holster.Accordingly, the foldable knife is automatically opened upon withdrawal from the holster and automatically folded upon insertion therein.

  • Patent number: 4593840
Abstract: A load carrying unit includes a load carrying portion having a pair of wheels lockably raisable and lowerable in relation thereto. The load carrying portion may be connected to a vehicle by means of a standard ball-and-socket hitch used in conjunction with a cantilever arm. Once the hitch and arm have been connected to the vehicle, the wheels may be raised and the load carrying portion slid toward the vehicle to reduce the cantilever stress on the arm. The load carrying portion and the vehicle may be driven as though there were no trailer.

  • Patent number: 4588116
Abstract: Disclosed is a holster for a chemical tear gas projector having an elongated body with opposite first and second end portions and an intermediate portion therebetween. The first end portion carries a receptacle for receiving the projector. The second end portion is folded to extend behind and parallel the intermediate and first end portions to define an opening for receiving a belt. Projections carried by the second end portion interlock with recesses on the intermediate portion to define the extent of the opening and assist in preventing rotational or swinging movement of the holster relative to the belt portion received through the opening. Additional projections are carried by the holster body and are removable whereby the size of the opening can be adjusted to accommodate belts of different sizes.

  • Patent number: 4586638
Abstract: The invention contemplates roof-rack structure comprising (a) an elongate bar of constant external section profile, and (b) two pad-mounted pedestal supports having provision for inserted through-reception of the respective ends of the bar. Each pedestal support includes its own selectively available one-way-engaging clutch action whereby end-inserted displacement of the bar is freely accommodated, and whereby inserted-bar retraction is foreclosed. Each pedestal support also includes its own jack-actuated clamp for secure lateral anchorage to a roof or window edge. Further, a single manual control serves to operate both the clutch action and the lateral clamp, and the manual control is key-lockable when the conditions of bar-clutched engagement and lateral-clamp setting have both been established. The single manual control is subsequently operable, once unlocked, to release both the lateral clamp and the clutched engagement, thus permitting easy and fast disassembly.
