  • Patent number: 4162759
Abstract: A throw-away, one-use tray, for the packaging of easily bruised fruit and produce in conjunction with an overwrap plastic film, is provided with an open-window bottom configuration in which the bottom ribs defining the open windows are approximately 20% greater thickness than the side walls of the tray. The rib form at the bottom serves the functions of stiffening the bottom more than would ribs resulting from die cut openings, and creating a smooth rolled edge in contact with the produce to reduce cutting and bruising.

  • Patent number: 4162010
Abstract: A dish-shaped insert for a cylindrical container of cosmetic dusting powder or the like has a slightly upwardly and outwardly tapering peripheral wall terminating in a narrow flange. An integrally formed, protruding, circumferential rib extending around near the midpoint of the wall cooperates with one or more recesses at the upper edge of the container wall to permit escape of air as the insert is pressed into the container and then to seal the container when the rib passes the bottom of the wall recess, so that fine powder and product fragrance do not escape. The insert is injection molded or, preferably, thermoformed of thermoplastic sheet material and may bear one or more tabs to facilitate removal as well as indicia such as a trademark or name.

  • Patent number: 4162004
Abstract: A carrying case is made, preferably molded of hard plastic, having within the same, preferably as integral part thereof a stop, lug or block to arrest motion of a carried object by coacting with a portion of said object as the object is urged toward and against said stop by an inclined plane or surface generally facing toward said stop and coacting with another portion of said object. The plane or surface can be comprised in an upstanding outcropping or rib. The surface or rib can have in the surface an offset, jog or crotch generally facing said stop to limit motion away from said stop whenever the inclined surface is insufficient to urge the object towards said stop as when the case is tilted to render the inclined surface momentarily inoperative and when the top of the closed case may not urge the carried object toward said plane.Providing several spaced offsets permits the case to effectively accommodate several sizes of objects, e.g., chain saws of different models or sizes.

  • Patent number: 4158406
Abstract: A relatively flat corrugated board container is fitted at each of its ends with hanger holding bars so that a number of garments, each disposed on a hanger, may be layed flat in the container with their respective hangers in alternate fashion toward each of opposite ends of the container to thus maximize the number of garments that may be placed in a container of a given size. Each hanger holding bar is fabricated from suitable metal in a modified "C" configuration and is secured in place at its respective container end by placing the flanges, which form the ends of the "C," into a channel formed behind a rib embossed into a metal retaining plate that is, in turn, secured in place at the container end by a pair of securing panels also formed of corrugated board. Each hanger bar is disposed so as to be able to slide up so that its upper "C" flange can be pulled away from the retaining plate rib, to enable the hangers to be hooked behind the hanger bar.

  • Patent number: 4158411
Abstract: A dispensing package for containing a plurality of individual dosages of pills, capsules, tablets and the like that can be selectively removed one dose at a time. A cover portion for the package is made up of an outer layer of paperboard or the like with an inner layer of rupturable metal foil or the like bonded to one surface. Disc-shaped punch-out lids are cut into the paperboard layer and are held in position by the foil. A container portion is bonded to the foil and includes a sheet of flexible plastic material formed with a plurality of pockets or blisters. One of the lids overlies each of the pockets and a single dose of pills or the like is contained in each of the pockets. The paperboard layer has high strength and stiffness relative to the foil. Consequently, by collapsing one of the pockets against the cover portion, the portion of the foil attached to the associated lid ruptures and separates from the cover portion with the lid so that the pill is pressed through the opening uncovered by the lid.
