  • Patent number: 4187976
Abstract: A rectangular, collapsible container includes a collapsible lock bottom structure in which each bottom side flap is glued to a bottom end flap. At least two of the bottom flaps have fold lines which permit the box bottom to collapse inwardly. The container includes cover flaps which extend from the upper edges of side wall panels and which overlap one another in a closed position. Reinforcing members extend from the upper edges of the end wall panels. Each reinforcing member includes a relatively narrow bridge panel which extends toward the opposite end panel and a locking panel of which extends downwardly from the edge of the bridge panel to a position at the bottom of the container at which it engages a bottom or floor panel to help rigidify the container. Preferably, the container is made from a one piece blank of a suitable sheet material such as cardboard or containerboard.

  • Patent number: 4186865
Abstract: A method and means is provided for securing the bottom closure of a polygonal container having a plurality of side panels and a strong weight supporting bottom formed by a plurality of generally triangular bottom panels and a plurality of interconnecting webs between the panels. The method comprises inserting a fin head assembly within the container, the fin head assembly having a plurality of vertically disposed fin plates which are registered in alignment with the junctures between the side edges of the bottom panels. The fin plates are then inserted into the junctures between the side edges of the bottom panels so that each fin plate is embraced between the double thickness of the web panels which are between the side edges of the bottom panels. The fin plates hold the bottom panels and webs in place so that a clip may be placed over the circular array of ribs formed by the double thickness web panels, thereby holding the web panels and the bottom panels in a predetermined configuration.

  • Patent number: 4185764
Abstract: A flat, folded carton having a snap-up bottom for erection into a generally conical hollow container includes a bottom panel of generally octagonal configuration, and two upstanding side wall panels interconnected by end walls. One side panel is of isosceles trapezoidal shape, while the other side panel is of isosceles triangular shape. The end walls are hingedly connected to the isosceles triangular wall panel, and bonded by a glue strip to the isosceles trapezoidal panel. The resulting container configuration is generally conical, with the planes of the side wall panels extending upwardly and divergently from the bottom panel. Hence, the carton provides an enlarged bell mouth opening for the generally conical hollow container, thereby facilitating the scooping and loading of products into the container.
