  • Patent number: 4241830
Abstract: A packing system for storing and transporting one or more cathode ray tubes, comprises at least one shell having one or more recesses. Each recess is shaped to accommodate as a good fit part of the glass bulb of a cathode ray tube and is of sufficient depth to retain the bulb firmly in position. The shell is of such a strength that it can by itself withstand bending stress exerted by the weight of the cathode ray tube.

  • Patent number: 4240575
Abstract: A disposable carton formed of low cost material and adapted for the packaging of eggs and the like is formed with coacting elements of a cover and latching flap which, in combination, afford rigidity to those elements, guide the coacting elements on closure and provide for a secure latching susceptible of easy opening. Recesses are provided in cover and latching flap for guidance and rigidity. Latching is accomplished by a recess extending inwardly from the cover front wall to engage the underside of a latching bar of the flap, which is positioned above a substantially rectangular shaped recess in the latching flap. The carton is particularly characterized in that it exhibits improved resistance to crushing when other cartons are stacked upon it. This crush resistance is imparted to the carton by employing integrally molded cover support ribs which are positioned immediately above and adjacent to the locking recesses on the latching flap.

  • Patent number: 4239149
Abstract: A combination assembly clip and sealing means for collapsible shipping containers. The clip is formed from synthetic resinous materials, and may be partially folded to enable it to be inserted into a pair of aligned openings in an assembled container to maintain, for example, a lid in closed condition upon a side wall thereof. After insertion, the clip is returned to planar condition to fully engage the sides of the engaged openings in the container. This movement aligns a plurality of exposed openings in the clip through which a strip-type seal is inserted and closed, thus making it impossible to refold the clip prior to removal to open the container without first destroying the seal.

  • Patent number: 4239148
Abstract: A box for storing files is formed from a single blank of paperboard. The blank consists of a centrally located bottom wall panel having side wall panels foldably connected thereto. Each of the centrally located bottom walls panels and side wall panels have an end wall panel extending from a transverse edge thereof so that when the side wall panels are folded 90.degree. relative to the bottom wall panel, the end wall panels on the transverse edges of the side walls and bottom walls can be overlapped and locked together. Connected to the outer longitudinal edges of each of the side wall panels is a top wall panel substantially half the width of the centrally located bottom panel. The top wall panels are adapted to be folded 90.degree. relative to the side walls to form a cover for the box. Longitudinally extending tabs extend from the transverse edges of each of the top wall panels and can be inserted within an opening in the end walls to lock the top wall panels in place on the box.

  • Patent number: 4238069
Abstract: A container formed of a unitary blank of foldable paperboard has a bottom panel generally rectangular in outline which is integrally connected to opposed end walls and side walls to provide an upwardly facing opening. Corner gussets between each end wall and the adjacent side wall are folded inwardly alongside the adjacent side wall with the free extremeties of the gussets adjacent each end wall carrying upstanding projections which overlap each other. An end flap on each end wall is folded inwardly along the inner surface of the adjacent gussets and has a slot along its fold line for receiving the adjacent upstanding projections. Opposed tabs on each end flap extend away from each other and lock between the adjacent gusset and the inner surface of the adjacent end wall.

  • Patent number: 4238070
Abstract: A ribbon sleeve for boxes, especially gift boxes, comprising a sheet-material blank having an elongated strip portion provided at each end with a pair of lobes. First fold lines are provided at the junction of the lobes with the respective end of the blank. The fold lines intersect one another in a point which is adapted to be placed onto a respective corner of the box. Second fold lines are provided in each lobe spaced from and parallel to the respective first fold lines. This enables the lobes to be bent along the first fold lines to overlie the sides of the box and portions of the lobes to be bent underneath the box along the second fold lines. A slit is provided in one lobe of each pair and a tab on the other lobe of the pair and insertable into the slit to serve as a connecting means for the lobes.

  • Patent number: 4236662
Abstract: A multi-sided container, formed of a unitary blank, defining an enclosed chamber in which a platform is located. The platform is coupled to one of the outer panels of the container and has an article receiving aperture therein. The platform is formed from a series of hingedly connected panels, one of which is integral with one of the container's outer panels and the other of which is adhered to that same outer panel. In one embodiment, the platform is integral with an outer side panel. In another, the platform is integral with an outer front panel. The platform is perpendicular to the outer panel to which it is coupled. The container is formed from the blank in only three folding steps.

  • Patent number: 4236663
Abstract: In a folding box having a collar surrounded by a lid in the closed position, this collar is formed in one piece with the blank of the box. By means of a number of separating cuts, however, the collar is defined in relation to the blank in such a manner that in the area of the front wall of the box the inwardly displaced collar is only connected with the box blank, namely the front wall thereof, by means of residual connections. These side residual connections are folded inward in the form of a Z in such a manner that outside of the residual connections the collar lies smoothly against the inside of the front wall.

  • Patent number: 4231510
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved open ended package or container which is formed from a one piece blank to hold a pair of light bulbs in an end to end relationship. The bulbs are spaced a desired distance from the open ends of the container and longitudinally retained in both directions as well as prevented from contacting each other in order to avoid breakage during shipping and storing. The one piece cardboard blank is folded and secured by adhesive strips at each end to form a rectangular sleeve having a top, bottom, two sides, two open ends, and a partition element. The partition element is provided with cut lines and fold lines to form two separating portions and two retaining portions, all of which extend across the container between the top and bottom, each in a different plane parallel to the two sides.

  • Patent number: 4230261
Abstract: A lunch box carton made from a single cardboard blank with an attractive reclosable gabled top and an auto-erecting lock bottom. The lunch box carton has a tapered side wall construction, forming an inverted truncated pyramidal configuration to enable stacked nesting of a plurality of the cartons. The lunch box carton is of a knock-down variety which can be shipped in a flattened configuration and is further provided with an auto-erecting lock bottom to facilitate erection of the carton. The top portion of the carton is attractively gabled in configuration, providing additional interior volume, and includes integral carrying handles. Further, the carton is provided with movable wedge shaped locking portions pivotally connected on the top of the carton which can be interengaged with apertures provided in the side wall of the carton, to securely lock the carton in the closed condition. In addition, to prevent lateral shifting of the top of the carton, the carrying handles are secured by folding tabs.

  • Patent number: 4230259
Abstract: The disclosed carton has opposite front and back walls, a top or end panel hinged to the front wall, and a flap extending downward from the top panel inside the back wall. A tongue in the back wall is defined by side cuts and an end cut. A hang-up tab extends from the top-panel flap at a reverse bend, extending through said end cut and upward. A locking portion of the hang-up tab is wider than the tongue, thus having locking extremities. When the tab is initially shifted from inside the back wall downward through the end cut, its locking portion is disposed partly outside the tongue but the locking extremities are inside the carton. When the hang-up tab is thereafter forcibly swung outward, the locking portion flexes and its extremities emerge and lock the top panel closed. The top panel additionally has detents at the ends of its closing flap.
