  • Patent number: 10688909
Abstract: A tie-down management system that is used to manipulate a tie-down strap through and around complex cargo. Pockets are sewn onto the strap proximate each end. A hand tool is provided having a handle and a shaft. The shaft terminates with a hook that is shaped and sized to selectively engage the opposing pockets on the flexible strap. When the hook is engaged with a pocket on the flexible strap, the flexible strap and the hand tool become mechanically interconnected. The hand tool can then be used to manipulate the flexible strap around and through complex pathways. The reach of the hand tool can also be extended by connecting the hand tool to an extension pole. By using the tie-down management system, the amount of climbing, bending and stretching required to secure a complex load is reduced.

  • Patent number: 10669129
Abstract: A hook gate or hoist hook having a hook gate that is designed to prevent dynamic rollout. The lockable gate includes one or more release mechanisms that allow the gate to unlock and open upon actuation of the release mechanisms. The release mechanisms reside within a circumferential guard that extends outwardly from the gate. The guards preferably extend at least as far as the release mechanism or beyond the extension of the release mechanism. The hook gate further includes anti-snagging flanges extending generally in the vertical direction from both the top and bottom portions of the guard. The circumferential guard and the anti-snagging flanges in combination make it nearly impossible for an attachment mechanism to become improperly oriented under a load and effectively eliminate the possibility of dynamic rollout.

  • Patent number: 10668629
Abstract: Various stabilization devices for a robotic end of arm tool, such as a robotic gripper, are described. The stabilization device is provided in a palm area of the end of arm tool and serves as a backstop against which actuators of the end of arm tool can push a compliant or slick target object. The stabilization device may take many any of a variety of shapes, depending on the application. Based on the shape of the stabilization device and the action of the robotic gripper on the target object, the target object can be moved or rotated in a more stable configuration, thus allowing the actuators to apply less force while still maintaining a firm grasp of the object.

  • Patent number: 10661447
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments relate to unique structures for robotic end-of-arm-tools (EOATs). According to some embodiments, two or more fingers or actuators may be present on an EOAT, and the actuators may be configured to move (together or separately) to adjust the spacing between the actuators. Some aspects involve techniques for extending and/or retracting a vacuum cup present on the EOAT. Further embodiments, which may be used separately or in conjunction with the previously-described embodiments, apply a secondary inner grip pad to provide a secondary gripping mode for the EOAT. These embodiments may be particularly advantageous when the actuators are soft robotic actuators and the inner grip pad is a relatively more rigid structure than the actuators.

  • Patent number: 10661446
Abstract: A robot system having a robot with a jamming gripper is disclosed. The jamming gripper may comprise granular material within a deformable membrane configured to phase transition between a malleable state and a rigid state upon modification of its internal pressure. The phase transition of the gripper may allow the robot to engage and/or grasp a target object by conforming to the shape of the target object while in its malleable state, then transitioning to its rigid state in order to firmly grasp the object. In some situations, the robot may be configured to select and/or engage a stencil before engaging the target object, so as to pre-shape the gripper before engagement with the target object.

  • Patent number: 10662724
Abstract: A grip element for gripping a tubular CRA workpiece has a hardened grip surface carrying an array of generally pyramidic die teeth, which may have either pointed or rounded tips, with the configuration of the tooth tips being selected for effective gripping of the CRA workpiece by way of an interference grip, and without unacceptably marking the CRA workpiece. The die tooth density over the grip surface may be selected to minimize accumulation of contaminants between teeth and/or to facilitate removal of accumulated contaminants. The substrate of the grip element may comprise a stainless steel having no free iron, with the grip surface being hardened by nitriding. Optionally, the tips of the grip element may truncated after nitriding to partially expose the stainless steel substrate. In alternative embodiments, the grip element may have a carbon steel substrate with a nitrided grip surface.
