Abstract: A method of inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface in an aqueous system having a pH of at least 6, comprising maintaining in the aqueous system, in an amount effective to inhibit corrosion, a water-soluble, organic-rare earth metal chelate which is derived from a rare earth metal having an atomic number from 57 to 71 and an organic chelant. The organic chelant provides not only water solubility but surprisingly enhanced corrosion inhibiting activity. The water-soluble, organic-rare earth chelates may be advantageously combined with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc chelates, organophosphonates, phosphates, chromates, molybdates, and the like.

Abstract: A tubing cutter apparatus includes a housing or casing member formed of a zirconia ceramic material. The zirconia ceramic material is located at least proximate an explosive charge section, such the detonation of the explosive charge will cause shattering the ceramic section. The tubing cutter may be assembled in a safe manner by establishing ground connections between separate portions of the apparatus. These ground connections established during assembly will prevent the buildup of static electrical charges, which could cause premature detonation of the cutter.
Abstract: Concentrated solutions of hydrogen peroxide tend to decompose on storage, thereby losing their effectiveness, amongst other reasons by virtue of interaction with contaminating transition metals.Peroxygen compounds are stabilized by contact with a stabilizing amount of compound of general formula: ##STR1## in which X represents a methylene phosphonic acid group of formula --CH.sub.2 --(--PO.sub.3 H.sub.2) or salt thereof, R represents a tetra methylene diradical, optionally alkyl-substituted, that completes a cyclo-aliphatic ring and thereby establishes the two NX.sub.2 groups in a substantially fixed configuration and Y represents a hydrogen or lower alkyl group.Preferably, the solutions contain additionally one or more co-stabilizers, including stannate, phosphates, hydroxybenzoic acid, citric acid and nitrate. The stabilizer system can enable the solution to be diluted, even with municipal water.

These compounds, when used in organic compositions susceptible to oxidative degradation act to effectively retard such degradation.

The alloy is particularly useful as a component of a fuel assembly such as a fuel tube.
Abstract: A method for preventing agglomeration of powder, characterized in that a poly(oxyethylene)diglycosic acid is incorporated as an anti-agglomeration agent to the powder.
Abstract: An increased volume shotshell having a biaxially oriented plastic tubular body has an end closure disk heat sealed to the open end of the shotshell eliminating the conventional star crimp closure. The increases volume results from making available the space normally taken up by the internal folds of the crimp. The end closure on the open end of the shotshell tube is fused to the tubular body to seal the shot load without destroying the biaxial orientation of the open end of the tubular body.
Abstract: A thermally conductive diamond metal composite comprising 5 to 80 volume percent diamond particles having a particle size ranging from about 1 to 50 .mu.m and a metal matrix comprising a thermally conductive metal. Preferably, a fine metal powder having particle size below 53 microns is utilized as the source for the metal matrix.

Abstract: A composition and method for inhibiting the corrosion of steel containing greater than about 9% chromium in the presence of at least one mineral acid, especially at temperatures above 250.degree. F. The composition is made of a corrosion inhibitor selected from phenyl ketone, phenyl ketone with a quaternary salt of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic aromatic compound, or cinnamaldehyde with a quaternary salt of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic aromatic compound and an acid soluble metal from antimonium or bismuth.
Abstract: A timing circuit includes a variable frequency oscillator which has a control signal that determines the output frequency of the oscillator. The control signal and a reference signal are stored in the circuit. A precision calibration pulse is applied to the timing circuit which counts the output cycles of the variable frequency oscillator during the period of the pulse. This count is stored and compared to the reference count to produce an error count. This error count is combined with the previously stored control signal to produce a new control signal that drives the output of the oscillator to a new frequency. The timing circuit can be utilized as a part of a delay circuit is an electronic blasting system wherein a control unit transmits the calibration pulse concurrently to each of the delay circuits to cause each circuit to calibrate its local oscillator in accordance with the calibration pulse. The control unit transmits a delay count to each of the delay ignition circuits.
Abstract: Corrosion protection of battery terminals and connectors is disclosed by use of a novel corrosion protective composition comprised of a lithium grease; an alkaline alkali metal salt, such as sodium bicarbonate; and an alkaline earth metal salt, such as magnesium oxide. The composition is prepared by mixing the ingredients at a temperature below the liquification point of the lithium grease. The composition is applied to at least one of the terminals and the connector.
Abstract: There is disclosed a composition and method for removing dissolved oxygen from aqueous systems, for example, boiler water systems or oil injection water or brine. The disclosed method and composition uses a salt of a keto-gluconic acid, or a salt of a stereoisomer of a keto-gluconic acid, as the oxygen scavenger.
Abstract: A metal structure component is provided with a protective coating including three layers. A first layer on the surface of the metal structural component is a bond improving metallic base layer on which an intermediate heat insulating oxidic layer is applied, followed by a titanium fire inhibiting metallic cover layer. Due to this arrangement of three layers, it is possible for the advantageous characteristics of the individual layers to cooperate to provide a good bonding and heat insulating protection of the intermediate layer in combination with the titanium fire inhibiting protection of the outer layer, whereby the structural component achieves a prolonged operational life without a substantial weight increase as compared to conventional protection layers provided only for heat insulation purposes. This layer structure also minimizes any adverse influence on the structural strength of the metal structural component.
