  • Patent number: 8089639
Abstract: An image forming apparatus has an image acquisition portion that acquires image data on an image including a character. A character-periphery detector detects the peripheral part of the character in the image data acquired by the image acquisition portion. An outline emphasis portion sets the density of the image data acquired by the image acquisition portion, so that the density of the peripheral part of the character detected by the character-periphery detector becomes higher than the density indicated by this image data. A density changer sets the density of the image data so that this density gradually becomes lower from the peripheral part of the character detected by the character-periphery detector toward the inside thereof. An image former forms an image on a sheet of recording paper on the basis of the image data whose density is set by the outline emphasis portion and the density changer.

  • Patent number: 8072628
Abstract: Disclosed is a printing apparatus capable of quickly performing the first printing while managing print requests. More specifically, a print request is received from an external device (S1301), and the received print request is registered in a register (S1304, S1308). Upon reception of the print request, the presence/absence of a print request which is registered in the register is determined (S1302). Print data is requested of the external device (S1306, S1307). The process order of print requests registered in the register is controlled (S1305). If it is determined in a determining step (S1302) that no print request is registered in the register, a print data request step (S1307) is performed before a registration step (S1308). If it is determined in the determining step (S1302) that a print request is registered in the register, the print data request step (S1306) is performed after the registration step (S1304).

  • Patent number: 8049911
Abstract: An image forming apparatus which eliminates the necessity of carrying out wasteful operations such as retry of a job and therefore improves work efficiency. A print job is carried out to thereby form an image on a recording sheet. When an image abnormality formed on the recording sheet is detected, a controller temporarily suspends the print job. An operating unit displays a screen for prompting a user to input an instruction as to whether to continue the print job. The controller determines whether to continue the print job based on the instruction input by the user.

  • Patent number: 8031358
Abstract: An image forming system, having means for storing usage histories of latent image carriers, developer, or the like and maintenance cycles of image forming apparatuses and having a function for selecting image forming apparatuses outputting an image based on the usage history data or the maintenance cycles, in order to achieve uniform output image qualities. By managing the usage histories so as to achieve approximately the same deteriorated conditions of the latent image carriers of the image forming apparatuses, the image forming apparatuses can be put in the same condition and thus the output image qualities can be approximately the same in the image forming apparatuses. Additionally, the maintenance cycles can be adjusted to be approximately the same in the image forming apparatuses. Otherwise, maintenance periods can be controlled so as not to overlap in the image forming apparatuses.
