  • Patent number: 10295946
Abstract: A first computer program generates a code encoding a date when the code was generated, an at least substantially unique identifier of a consumable item for an image-forming device, and usage information regarding the consumable item. The at least substantially unique identifier and the usage information are retrieved from a memory of the consumable item. Upon a user returning the consumable item for warranty purposes, a second computer program decodes the code to obtain the date, the at least substantially unique identifier, and the usage information. The second computer program determines whether to entitle the consumable item for warranty purposes based on the date, the at least substantially unique identifier, and the usage information. The second computer program outputs whether the consumable item should be entitled for warranty purposes.

  • Patent number: 7037264
Abstract: A two-dimensional array transducer probe is used to image regions of the body that are acoustically obstructed from conventional view by objects such as the lungs or ribs. The probe is located against the body at an acoustic window which provides acceptable ultrasonic transmissivity between the transducer array and the body. While maintaining the probe at its acoustic window, an image plane location is manipulated by adjusting the beam steering directions. The image plane can be tilted in the elevation direction, moved laterally, and/or rotated about a center axis to position the image plane so that the obstructed anatomy is effectively imaged for diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 6770035
Abstract: An ultrasound imaging guidewire, that is inserted into a patient's body. The guidewire has a static central core and an imaging guidewire body comprising an acoustical scanning device. The acoustical scanning device can be rotated to obtain 360 degree acoustical images of a site of interest in the patients body. Furthermore, the imaging guidewire includes a connector that permits the imaging guidewire body to be disengaged from the static central core tip so that the imaging guidewire body can be axially translated to obtain multi-position imaging. The imaging guidewire body is axially translated without losing the original guidewire positioning because the static central core maintains its position in the patient's body.

  • Patent number: 6761454
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the objective refraction of a patient's eye includes a transparent window and a wavefront measurement device that determines aberrations in a return beam from the patient's eye after the beam passes through a corrective test lens in the apparatus. The wavefront measurement device outputs an instant display representative of the quality of vision afforded the patient through the test lens. The display can be a representation of a Snellen chart, convoluted with the optical characteristics of the patient's vision, an overall quality of vision scale or the optical contrast function, all based on the wavefront measurements of the patient's eye. The examiner may use the display information to conduct a refraction examination and other vision tests without the subjective response from the patient.

  • Patent number: 6755530
Abstract: Method and system for processing light signals received by the eye of a human or other animal, where the eye may be compromised or non-functioning. Incident light is received at first and second pixels in a photodetector array and provides a pixel electrical signal representing the received light. Each of an array of carbon nanotube (CNT) towers is connected to a pixel, has a first tower end penetrating a retinal active layer of the animal and has a second tower end positioned to receive to receive and transport the pixel electrical signal to the retinal active layer. The CNT tower may be coated with a biologically active substance or chemically modified to promote neurite connections with the tower. The photoreceptor array can be provide with a signal altering mechanism that alters at least one of light intensity and wavelength intensity sensed by a first pixel relative to a second pixel, to correct for one or more selected eye problems.

  • Patent number: 6755791
Abstract: An ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus includes one transmitting coil arranged in the longitudinal direction of an endoscope inserting portion in an ultrasonic endoscope, and another transmitting coil for detecting the position and the direction, which detects the position and the direction of a tomographic plane when forming a tomogram at a distal end portion of an inserting portion by an ultrasonic vibrator. A coil energizing signal is applied to both the transmitting coils so as to generate a magnetic field. The magnetic field is detected by receiving coils. A position and direction calculating circuit detects positional data of the one transmitting coil and positional and directional data of the other transmitting coil. The calculated data is transmitted to an auxiliary-image forming circuit which forms an image of an inserting shape and an auxiliary image indicating the position and the direction of the tomographic plane.
