Patent number: 4010999Abstract: A one-piece dead-front electrical plug comprises a dead-front member, conductive blades mounted therethrough, and two side covers hingedly connected to the dead-front member by integral web hinges. The side covers pivot between an open position affording access for making wiring connections between a cord and the conductive blades, and a closed position fully enclosing the wiring area. Each side cover has cord clamp teeth which cooperate to grip the cord. The web hinges are protected from longitudinal stress in one embodiment by side cover flanges which are matingly received in notch openings in the dead front member, and in another embodiment by dowel pins protruding from the dead-front member which are matingly received in openings in the side covers. Lateral stress protection of the web hinges is provided by an interengaging flange and groove structure of the side covers and dead-front member.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1975Date of Patent: March 8, 1977Assignee: Harvey Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Ernest Gerhard Hoffman

Patent number: 4006959Abstract: A technique is described for completely and positively wiring components into mass produced machines, such as washing machines, dryers and the like. The subject technique encompasses improved contacts, connectors and a wiring harness all of which are individually and collectively adopted to provide a readily ascertainable positive visual indication of a full mating condition and which will prevent further assembly of components if not initially fully assembled in the proper relationship. Each subassembly of a connector and related component includes keying means allowing only correct assembly and mounting in the machine plus visual indicators which verify correct assembly at each step. The connectors preferably have housings which can be produced in great lengths and cut to the desired shorter lengths. These housings also include strain relief means for the associated conductors and may be hermaphroditic.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1976Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: John Root Hopkins, Robert Maurice Renn, Robert Keith Southard

Patent number: 3998515Abstract: A hermetic electrical penetrator comprising a shell mounted in a single penetrator plate. A pair of axially spaced sealing members are sealed inside the shell defining a leak sensing chamber therebetween. One or more electrical contacts extend longitudinally through the sealing members in the shell. A sensing port in the wall of the shell communicates with the sensing chamber so that any leakage of gas through the shell can be detected by measuring the pressure differential between the inside and the outside of the shell. Preferably the sealing members are glass beads, and a porous ceramic spacer extends between the beads substantially filling the leak sensing chamber so that pressure differentials may be more easily detected.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1975Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventor: George J.
