Abstract: A self-adjusting, fabric-covered sweat band for a hat including a crown having a base of an inner circumference, includes an elastic material which has a length of a first dimension, which is shorter than the inner circumference of the base of the crown of the hat, and a width of a second dimension and which has a front edge, rear edge, a first edge and a second edge running lengthwise and a fabric material which has a length of a third dimension, which is longer than the circumference of the inner base of the crown of the hat, and a width of a fourth dimension, which is greater than four times the second dimension and which has been folded over along a lengthwise centerline.

Abstract: The present invention is a protective firefighter hood in which a pocket is formed to protect the required garment label which must be attached to the hood. The hood includes a head portion shaped to cover at least a wearer's head and an optional bib portion attached to and extending from the head portion to cover at least a wearer's neck. In one embodiment, a gap is formed between the stitching that connects the inner and outer layers of the head portion, adjacent the label. Accordingly, the label can be stored so that it does not contact the wearer, by inserting it through the gap in the stitching. In an alternative embodiment, the hood is provided with a patch pocket on the head portion or bib portion adjacent the label, so that the label can be placed alternatively within the pocket away from contacting the wearer or removed from the pocket to be viewed.

Abstract: A fire protection garment may be constructed of a one piece woven fabric integrally formed to create a cloak-like garment to create a fire retardant emergency device. The garment contains a hood portion, a body portion formed with an entrance opening and a manipulating device on the interior of the body portion on each side of the entrance opening. The manipulating device can be hand receiving pockets. The garment is formed of a fabric selected to retain a fire retarding fluid so that the garment protects a person or persons within the garment from high intensity heat or flames. The manipulating device or hand receiving pockets provide a means for controlling the opening of the garment to enable a rescue to occur.

Abstract: The firefighters coat is provided with a seal which is disposed adjacent the inner surface of the coat and which extends along the lower edge portion of the coat. The lower part of the seal is stitched to the lower edge portion of the coat, and the seal extends upwardly from the lower edge portion of the coat. The seal has an elastic upper part which is normally spaced a substantial distance above the lower edge portions of the coat and is adapted to hold the upper part of the seal tight against cooperating firefighter pants even when the coat rises up as occurs when a firefighter lifts his arms or bends over.

Abstract: A moisture retaining face mask designed to avoid drying and lowering of the temperature of the skin prevents the skin from becoming rough by synergistic effect obtained when the mask is used in combination with cosmetics. Basically, the mask has a mask body composed of an outer mask made of a material that is highly air permeable, hygroscopic and heat retentive. An inner mask is made of a material that is heat retentive and hygroscopic. The inner mask is in close contact with the reverse side of the outer mask and separately joined thereto through hooks or other appropriate members. The outer mask has a face covering portion which is sewn to form three dimensions in conformity with a user's facial configuration. The mask is provided with openings at respective positions corresponding to a user's eyes and mouth, and a belt-shaped neck covering portion which is integrally sewn to a lower edge of the face covering portion.

Abstract: A hat in combination with a hood includes a hat having a cap portion for fitting on the head of a hat wearer, a front visor and a rear visor. The front visor and the rear visor are attached to opposite ends of the cap portion. A hood is adapted to cover the backside of the wearer and is releasably attached to the hat body. A pocket stores the hood to retain it off of the backside of the wearer.

Abstract: A removable cap visor extension having an extension unit with an curved mating edge that mates flush with the lower edge of a cap's hemispherical shell. The extension unit attaches to the permanent visor of a cap or hat either by sliding the visor through slots in the extension unit or by clasping the extension unit to a cap's visor with fasteners.

Abstract: A hat or collar uses a tubular sleeve of an oval annular configuration. The sleeve is composed of a flexible fabric having sufficient body and firmness to retain full malleable wire capable of being deformed by hand and is placed within the sleeve. The wire is of such length and general configuration as to fit within, conform to and generally define an outer periphery of the annular configuration of the sleeve throughout most of the length of that periphery. It preferably is stitched in position so that it can slip somewhat relative to the fabric as the malleable wire is deformed by hand. Forming the wire by hand changes the shape and appearance of the hat such that it retains such changed shape until again deformed by hand. The elastic connector attached to each of the respective ends of the tubular sleeve elastically interconnects those ends so that sufficient stretch is provided that the inner periphery of the annulus can serve as a hat band adjusting to the wearer's head size.

Abstract: A convenient hair wrap is provided which covers the rear portion of the head and allows for retention of the hair at that portion to retain a hair style or the like, and is easily positionable and securable on a wearer's head. Additionally, the hair wrap provides an aesthetically pleasing hair cover which may be worn out in public and still present a fashionable look.

Abstract: A self-conforming, head worn device which includes a head encircling band and a visor dependent therefrom which are fabricated from a flexible material that softens and conforms to a wearer's head upon warming up to the body temperature of the wearer. The head band includes a first fastening member on a first tail, and a second fastening member on a second tail of the head band. A plurality of protrusions on the first fastening member reversibly engage a plurality of bores on the second fastening member. The head band material is preferably a polymeric material which has a T.sub.g or softening temperature that is slightly lower than the human body temperature so that, when worn about the head of a wearer, the head band softens and conforms to the shape of the wearer's head, thereby maximizing wearer comfort. In an alternative embodiment, there is included hair receiving member in the form of a generally circular "pony-tail" adapter for use by persons with long hair.

Abstract: A custom-fit cap having a visor portion and a substantially hemispherical crown portion attached to the visor portion and at least a crown portion opposite the visor and covering the back of the head being formed of the material that stretches at least circumferentially about the crown portion for accommodating various head sizes. A band that is stretchable circumferentially and is attached to the inside of the hemispherical crown portion adjacent the base thereof forms a sweat band to engage the head of the user while allowing the cap to stretch circumferentially with at least that portion of the crown portion covering the back of the head opposite the visor, so as to enable the cap to self-adjust automatically to fit a plurality of head sizes.

Abstract: A sweatband for a hat, that can be easily inserted and removed, comprising a flexible retaining strip which permanently attached on one end to the inside surface of a hat, with the opposite end of the strip removably attached to the inside surface of the hat by means of a snap fastener, and a tubular sweatband, which, when the snap fastener is disengaged, can be inserted around the retaining strip, and thereby be retained in the hat when the snap fastener is engaged. The sweatband can also be easily removed to be cleaned or replaced by unfastening the removable end of the retaining strip.

Abstract: A piece of trim having a hard finish is disposed adjacent the outer surface of the outer shell which is formed of fire retardant material. A thread protector is disposed adjacent the outer surface of the trim, and a thread forming a line of stitching extends through the thread protector, trim and shell to hold the trim in place. The thread includes exposed portions, and the thread protector is formed of soft material and extends away from opposite sides of the exposed portions of the thread. The thread protector also is spaced from the outer surface of the trim a greater distance than the tops of the exposed portions of the thread so that if an object approaches the sides of the exposed portions, it will first contact an edge of the thread protector and cause the thread protector to fold over the exposed portions of the thread to prevent abrasion thereof.

Abstract: A cap includes a crown with an annular base shaped to fit the head of a wearer, and a reversible visor having first and second opposing major surfaces. The visor includes an outwardly extending arcuate flange located along an inside edge of the first and second major surfaces. First and second cooperating attachment members are located respectively on the flange and on the crown proximate the base for removable attachment of the visor to the crown. The flange is movable between a first visor attachment position on the crown wherein the first major surface of the visor faces upwardly during wear, and a second visor attachment position on the crown wherein the second major surface of the visor faces upwardly during wear.

Abstract: A headcover for a human head that has an isosceles triangular shaped first fabric material and with the base of a smaller isosceles shaped supple fabric sewn to the first fabric material such that the smaller triangle is sewn to and centered on the base of the first fabric material, darts sewn into edges of the first fabric material to cause said material to fold along lines extending from the darts to the peak of the smaller isosceles triangle as the peak of the first fabric material is folded to pass between a resilient ring on the first fabric material and the back of the head of a user of the headcover.

Abstract: A baseball-type cap has a shell of general hemispherical shape within an open bottom. A visor is attached along a peripheral inner edge to the shell at the front of the shell. An arcuate inwardly and upwardly tapered opening is provided within the shell diametrically opposite the visor. A chord or other lace is looped through the holes within grommets attached to the shell at the corners of the shell at the rear opening proximate to the peripheral edge at the bottom of the shell and free ends of the lace are tied preferably in a bow, permitting infinite circumferential size adjustment of the shell to conform the shell to the head of a wearer.

Abstract: An adjustable fastener assembly for forming an adjustable loop around a portion of a wearer's body has an body has an elongate member for encircling the body portion and first and second interengageabie end portions at opposite ends of the elongate member. One of the end portions is a buckle and the other is a strap for releasable threaded engagement through the buckle with the free end of the strap on the inside of the loop. Secondary fasteners such as mateable strips of Velcro.RTM. material are provided on the opposing inner faces of the free strap end and inner face of the loop. The elongate member may be a belt or waistband, a collar for an animal, or a hat band or sweat band of a cap or hat.

Abstract: A decorative cover for the adjusting straps on a cap of the type having overlapping adjusting straps in the back, wherein the cover is made from a flat sheet of material folded to define looped ends and generally parallel front and back panels. The panels are adapted to be disposed on opposite sides of the adjusting straps with the looped ends disposed in proximity to one another. Removable fasteners are received in the looped ends to retain the folded sheet of material in place on the adjusting straps. Advertising or other promotional material or decorative items may be placed on the front panel. In one form of the invention, the fasteners are bobby-pin-shaped spring clips which are inserted into opposite ends of the looped ends. In another form of the invention, the fasteners are magnets which are received in the looped ends so that the looped ends are held together when they are placed in proximity with one another.

Abstract: A headband designed particularly, but not limited exclusively, for a person having a ponytail includes an elongated member having an inner surface, an outer surface, a first generally U-shaped end having a pair of outwardly extending legs, and a second generally U-shaped end having a pair of outwardly extending legs. The headband further includes a pair of hook-type VELCRO strips placed on the outer surface of the outwardly extending legs of the first generally U-shaped end and a pair of loop-type VELCRO strips, fastenable with the pair of hook-type VELCRO strips, placed on the inner surface of the outwardly extending legs of the second generally U-shaped end. The pair of hook-type VELCRO strips and the pair of loop-type VELCRO strips serve as a means for attaching the first generally U-shaped end to the second generally U-shaped end. The attachment of the first generally U-shaped end to the second generally U-shaped end creates a generally oval opening enabling the pony tail to pass therethrough.
