  • Patent number: 5575009
Abstract: A cold weather face mask and hood combination is characterized by an elastic support strap which is releasably secured to at least one side of the mask and is trained through a retainer loop on the back of the hood so that the fit of the mask on the wearer's face may be adjusted to increase or decrease the snugness and to accommodate a range of sizes and shapes of facial features in the nose, mouth and chin area. The retainer loop holds the support strap in a selected position along the back of the hood to prevent the loop from slipping to the wearer's shoulders. The face mask has a nose-to-chin protecting pocket with a somewhat parabolic curvature to accommodate a range of sizes and shapes of facial features.

  • Patent number: 5566395
Abstract: A disposable liner is fitted against the inside surface of a sweatband of a cap or hat. The liner functions to absorb moisture and oils, and to eliminate odor. The liner wicks moisture away from a user and may hold moisture away from the hat. The liner may wick moisture to an evaporation region to be evaporated. The evaporation region may be separated from the hat by a cover layer to prevent wicking into the crown of the hat. The liner may be configured to adjust the size, and thus the fit of the hat on the head of the user. To secure a hat on the head of a user, the liner may include a compressible, foamed, polymeric core. The core may be treated with an antibacterial agent and a deodorizing agent for eliminating odors. To one side of the core is attached an adhesive layer for securing the to the sweatband of the hat. The adhesive is selected for firmness yet easy removal and disposal of the liner. The adhesive may be heat-sensitive.

  • Patent number: 5551087
Abstract: The invention provides a hat and face mask combination including a hat which is made of a stretchable knit material to conform to the head of an individual wearer and which includes a peripheral edge defining an opening for the face of the wearer. The opening is sized to expose that portion of a wearer's face which extends from above the eyebrows, over the temples, and to the cheeks. The hat also includes a lower portion that is rollable over on itself to form an ear covering of double thickness. The lower portion of the hat is fixed in its rolled over position along the periphery of the face opening and is unrollable, except along the periphery of the face opening, to extend the lower portion of the hat downwardly over a portion of the neck of the wearer. The head covering also includes a face mask that extends over the face opening and that includes a periphery sewn to the hat along the periphery of the face opening.

  • Patent number: RE35436
Abstract: A firefighter's garment which includes a layer of protective material in which the layer of protective material is provided with a major portion which has a high degree of thermal protective properties. The layer of protective material also has sections which have a lesser degree of thermal protective properties. The protions of the layer of protective material which have a high degree of thermal protective properties are positioned at locations which require maximum thermal protection. The portions of the layer of protective material which have a lesser degree of thermal protective properties are located at positions which require less thermal protection. The portions of the layer of protective material which have a lesser degree of thermal protective properties also have greater flexibility and less bulk and less weight. Thus, the possibility of stress upon the firefighter is not effectively decreased when firefighter body posture during firefighting and the role of the protective equipment is considered.
