Abstract: A method for accessing the Internet using an Internet TV is provided. A function of accessing the Internet and a function of receiving a TV broadcast signal may be combined in the Internet TV, and a server operates a portal site which provides a variety of information to the Internet TV. In order for a server operating a portal site to provide an authentication number to the Internet TV which allows the Internet TV to automatically access the server, the Internet TV transmits a message requesting the authentication of the use of information to the portal server, and the server responds by requesting the Internet TV to input an authentication number. After the Internet TV has transmitted the requested authentication number to the portal server and the server has checked the transmitted authentication number, information is provided to the Internet TV.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a system and method for allocating resources to applications. One embodiment of the present invention may include identifying a plurality of applications and a plurality of application components, and determining available resources of a networked computing system for potentially storing the applications and application components. Additionally, the embodiment may include determining required resources for each application component, assigning a subset of available resources for each application component based on the required resources of the application component and the available resources. The embodiment may also include associating the application components with the subsets of available resources and storing more than one application component of the plurality of application components on a single available resource.

Abstract: A device, which is encoded with ordered steps, is connected to a network. In an embodiment, each of the steps includes a type, a link that points at a respective tool, and a completion condition. The steps are sent from the device to an address in the network. A selection of one of the links is received from a user who is associated with the type. In response, the user interface for the tool that is pointed at by the link is sent to the user. The user interface includes tool commands. In response to receiving a tool command from the user, the tool command is performed, and if the tool command causes the completion condition for its step to be met, a completion command for the step is sent to the address in the network. In this way, setup activities are coordinated for configuring a device in a network.

Abstract: A system is provided that preserves data privacy for the Individual-I and Private Data Owner (PDO) while granting data access to the User-U and Accessor who need such data to perform their usual and customary business functions. The method and system completely control the User's access to the Private Data Owner's Private Data by replacing Identifying Information for the User-U, Individual-I, Accessor and PDO with pseudonyms. This assures the overall privacy of individuals, throughout the course of collecting, storing, accessing, analyzing and sharing detailed private records among different organizations engaged in providing and/or consuming services and/or products. Access Control Rule Sets (“ACRS”) consist of instructions which prescribe the terms and conditions for permitting Users to access the PDO's Pseudonymized and Actual Private data in accordance with the rules governing their authorization to access such data.

Abstract: The invention is directed to methods and techniques in a communications device for delivering content. In particular the technique includes intercepting, from a requesting device, an initial request for initial content accessible from an initial content source and in response to intercepting the initial request, creating redirection information indicating an identity of secondary content to be accessed by the requesting device in addition to the initial content in the initial request and providing the redirection information to the requesting device, such that the requesting device accesses both the secondary content from the secondary content source as well as the initial content from the initial content source.

Abstract: The invention provides improvements on a digital data processing system of the type having a first set of hosts, storage devices or other components coupled for communication with a first network manager. A second set of components is likewise coupled to a second network manager. Communications between the network managers and their respective sets of components utilize different protocols, the first network manager referring to components of the first set with identifiers that are unique to those respective components under the first protocol, and the second network manager referring to components of the second set with identifiers that are unique to those respective components under the second protocol.

Abstract: A software application can be shared by multiple users. A system clipboard of a first computing system is synchronized with a system clipboard of a second computing system when the user of the second computing system is in control of the shared software application. Information contained in the system clipboard of the first computing system is copied to a state buffer and associated with the user who copied the information. The information is returned to the system clipboard when the associated user regains control of the software application.

Abstract: An automatic message classification system includes a set of stored messages. Each message contains address identifiers. An incoming message processor delivers incoming messages to the system, each containing incoming address identifiers. A list of address identifiers is created by retrieving each address identifier of each message within the set of stored messages and adding the address identifier to the list if it does not already exist in the list. A central processor calculates a predictive address value for each address identifier in the list of address identifiers by dividing one by the number of occurrences of the address identifier in all messages within the set of stored messages. A central processor of the system compares the incoming address identifiers with the address identifiers of each message located within the set of stored messages to generate a predictive message value for each message.

Abstract: A system is described which provides the capability for high-level extensible scripting language interpreters to incorporate and employ Web browser plug-ins as components within script-based programs. A script interpreter extension is described which simulates the plug-in API interface of a Web browser, from the point of view of the browser plug-in, to allow program scripts to cause browser plug-ins to be launched and manipulated, in a manner similar to the scripting platform's native widgets, from within the executing program script. This system allows embedded external program objects to be used to display and enable interactive processing of embedded data objects.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and computer program product for efficiently pooling network client-server connections. The apparatus is implemented within an interface unit connecting a plurality of servers to the Internet, which is in turn connected to a plurality of clients. The method includes the steps of opening a connection between a first client and the interface unit; determining whether a connection between the interface unit and a server is finished being utilized by the first client; opening a connection between a second client and the interface unit; if no free connection is open between the interface unit and the server, then allowing the second client to access information on the server via the same connection utilized by the first client without waiting for the first client to initiate closing the connection; and delinking the connections between the first and second clients and the interface unit while keeping open the connection between the interface unit and the server.

Abstract: A system for verifying modem status for a telecommunications service provider in a broadband network serviced by a central office. The system comprising an internet interface for receiving a modem status request from the telecommunications service provider via a telecommunications network and an integrator capable of retrieving subscriber information and a server connected to the internet interface for receiving the modem status request and transmitting the modem status request to the integrator. The integrator interprets the modem status request and retrieves corresponding subscriber information and transmits the corresponding subscriber information to the server, the server thereby converting the corresponding subscriber information to a central office request and sending the central office request to the central office.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a networking device includes logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to cause performing receiving a command to collect a unique object identifier that represents a unique management information base (MIB) object; retrieving, in response to receiving the command, a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) MIB variable or table that corresponds to the MIB object; creating an Internet Protocol Flow Information Export (IPFIX) template data structure that includes the object identifier; in which the object identifier is encoded in the IPFIX template data structure as a string that has a variable length; and exporting the encoded object identifier with the variable length string.

Abstract: A method for configuring a link aggregation module, including configuring the link aggregation module to use an initial network interface card (NIC) selection algorithm, servicing a first plurality of packets using a plurality of NICs in an aggregation group, wherein the initial NIC selection algorithm is used to select the one of the plurality of NICs to service at least one of the first plurality of packets, collecting a plurality of first packet distribution statistics for the aggregation group corresponding to the servicing of the first plurality of packets, and selecting a first alternate NIC selection algorithm based on the plurality of first packet distribution statistics.

Abstract: A virtual computer system, including one or more virtual machines (VMs), is connected to a redundant data storage system having multiple paths for routing data between the computer system and the data storage system. The VMs are supported by a kernel, which includes a resource manager for allocating system resources among the VMs, including data storage space and data storage bandwidth. A storage path manager (SPM) is integrated into the kernel for routing data between the computer system and the data storage system, including providing functions such as failovers and failbacks, as well as load distribution. Integrating the SPM into the kernel improves the kernel's ability to manage the VMs and to provide SAN resources to the VMs. For example, the SPM may enhance the isolation between multiple VMs by routing their respective data over different data paths. Also, the SPM may improve the allocation of system resources by coordinating with the resource manager.

Abstract: Processing of numeric addresses is facilitated by using a user interface, rather than system modules, to handle name resolution. Processing the addresses at the user interface level avoids delays and packet blocking problems associated with using system modules to perform the task. Relieving the system modules from the responsibility of processing numeric addresses allows them to process other requests, improving overall system efficiency.

Abstract: A power management system embodiment of the present invention comprises a power manager with a network agent in communication over a network with a network manager. The power manager is connected to control the operating power flowing to various pieces of computer network equipment at a single site. A user is able to assign names to each control port, and the power manager maintains a list of enrolled users who have access. Many operational mode choices are possible, and each can be configured by the user while remote from the power manager. The power manager can be commanded to upload a user configuration list, and it can be commanded to accept a downloaded user configuration list.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for displaying message genealogy in the language of the user interface of an email recipient using a normalized set of subject prefix codes. The method comprises: sending an email to a recipient, wherein the email has an original subject; sending a normalized code corresponding to a subject prefix for the email to the recipient; receiving and decoding at the recipient the normalized code to provide a subject prefix in a language of the user interface of the recipient; and displaying the subject prefix in the language of the user interface of the recipient adjacent the original subject of the email.

Abstract: A distributed computer network includes at least two computers. Each of the at least two computers runs an application sharing program to enable an image generated by one computer to be displayed by at least one other computer. At least one of the at least two computers executes an image modifying routine to alter the appearance of an image generated by the one computer prior to display on the at least one other computer. In this manner, a user of the at least one other computer can tell at a glance if an image being presented is an image that has been received from the one computer or is its own desktop graphical user interface.

Abstract: Message delivery approaches are disclosed in which senders can define filters with associated actions for evaluation in relation to specified messages. After creating and storing filters with specified actions, senders dispatch messages to a processing system, which evaluates the filters against the messages. If a match occurs, the processing system performs the specified actions on the messages. In one embodiment, the processing system can send the same message multiple times to different receiving systems, and can modify the source IP address and outbound interface of the message for each receiving system. Further, the source IP address or interface may be modified by a filter in response to external events, such as a receiving system blocking another copy of the message.

Abstract: A framework for automatically provisioning computing devices includes a central database system and a central file system. Information stored in the database comprises a model of the individual devices, as well as the interconnections of the devices. The central file system stores the software components to be installed on the devices. When provisioning is carried out, the database sends commands to agents located on each device which cause them to retrieve and install the software components from the file system, and to configure the components according to the stored model.
