The present invention is designed such that a user transmits to an ASP 32 over the Internet 5 user registration data necessary to secure his/her exclusive storage area prepared in the server 39 placed at the ASP 32, and that the user receives from the ASP 32 over the Internet 5 a URL designated as the access point indicating his/her exclusive storage area meeting the user registration data, based on which connection is made automatically to the access point in the content server 39 over the Internet 5, thus making it possible to connect to a pre-appointed access point with increased ease without forcing the user to perform an input operation for the URL.

    Abstract: A tool for the deployment of software onto servers and other network resources provides a mechanism for parties that do not manage the operation of the servers to deploy new software. The new software is uploaded into an update directory, and a cut-over process is carried out whereby the contents of a live directory, where the currently-executing version of the software is stored, is synchronized with the update directory. Prior to this synchronization, the current state of the live directory is stored in a rollback directory. After the cut-over process, the live directory of the server becomes the source for deployment of the software to update directories in other servers. If the new version of the software is not operating to satisfaction, the information in the rollback directory is used to return the server to the prior version of the software while the new software is being revised.

Client processes send an HTTP request to a remote server for processing. This processing request may contain input data that is to be used in responding to the request. The server processes the request using the input data, and possibly other data obtained from remote databases, and returns a resultant XML specified data packet. This processing requests, may be initiated using a web browser from an HTML based web page or using a smart client process that simply sends a processing request along with input data and consumes the resultant data packet.

A verification process is run to determine if the new file functions properly. If it does, the trial run message is deleted and the new file is locked into flash memory as the current binary. If the trial fails, the trial run message is deleted and the system is rebooted with the previous binary file.

Preferably, the systems interface includes a second server for receiving requests and generating legacy transactions. After the computer is logged in, a request for access to an intranet is made. Preferably, the request results from the technician selecting an icon or engaging a software button. After the request is processed, a message is sent from the systems interface to the computer. The message causes the computer to launch a software application that seeks out a separate network address corresponding to the intranet.

As a user enters text, such as a URL, into a handheld device the entered text is matched to previously visited URLs and these matched URLs are displayed in a list. The entered text may also be matched to any stored list of URLs or text. Typically, the matching searches for any instances of the entered text no matter the location of the entered text in the matched string. If one of the listed URLs is the URL desired by the user, then the user may select that URL and navigate a web browser to the URL without entering any more text. One of the items in the list may be the entered text with an automatically added prefix and suffix. These features significantly reduce the difficulty of entering URLs, especially on a device with limited input capabilities.
