Patent number: 7499982Abstract: In an information processing device, server connection method, program storage medium, and network system, a connection is made to a pre-appointed access point more easily. The present invention is designed such that a user transmits to an ASP 32 over the Internet 5 user registration data necessary to secure his/her exclusive storage area prepared in the server 39 placed at the ASP 32, and that the user receives from the ASP 32 over the Internet 5 a URL designated as the access point indicating his/her exclusive storage area meeting the user registration data, based on which connection is made automatically to the access point in the content server 39 over the Internet 5, thus making it possible to connect to a pre-appointed access point with increased ease without forcing the user to perform an input operation for the URL.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2001Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Takao Yoshimine, Mototsugu Tsutsui, Takahiko Sueyoshi, Toshinori Nakamura, Hiroyuki Hanaya, Nobuyuki Uchiyama

Patent number: 7496645Abstract: A tool for the deployment of software onto servers and other network resources provides a mechanism for parties that do not manage the operation of the servers to deploy new software. The new software is uploaded into an update directory, and a cut-over process is carried out whereby the contents of a live directory, where the currently-executing version of the software is stored, is synchronized with the update directory. Prior to this synchronization, the current state of the live directory is stored in a rollback directory. After the cut-over process, the live directory of the server becomes the source for deployment of the software to update directories in other servers. If the new version of the software is not operating to satisfaction, the information in the rollback directory is used to return the server to the prior version of the software while the new software is being revised.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2001Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Wilson Yeung, Paul Kennedy, Phillip Liu, Tony Dahbura

Patent number: 7493397Abstract: Internet web servers provide processing services, in addition to data and visual content, to provide remote clients with access to processing services located on servers. The client processes communicate with these service providing servers over a distributed network like the Internet using standard HTTP communications protocol and XML data exchange language. Client processes send an HTTP request to a remote server for processing. This processing request may contain input data that is to be used in responding to the request. The server processes the request using the input data, and possibly other data obtained from remote databases, and returns a resultant XML specified data packet. This processing requests, may be initiated using a web browser from an HTML based web page or using a smart client process that simply sends a processing request along with input data and consumes the resultant data packet.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Scott D. Patent number: 7487252Abstract: A method and apparatus that interactively determine which data is exchanged between two networks or devices operating on the networks and the order in which the data is transferred. One of the networks can be a vehicle area network. The determination is capable of being based on one or more data criteria, including file size, user access, device interaction, user preferences, history of use, and so on. The available time in which to communicate is forecasted so that the appropriate data can be transmitted. It is emphasized that this abstract is being provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow examiners and other searchers to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims, as promised by the rules of the Patent Office.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2001Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Gateway Inc.Inventor: Stephen P. Patent number: 7475125Abstract: Systems and methods for enumerating applications by a remote client computer are described. The applications are deployed in an Intranet. The remote client computer is external to the Intranet. In one aspect, a remote application discovery request is sent to a Web service. The Web service is deployed on a remote applications publication (RAP) Web server in the Intranet. The remote application discovery request is sent to the Web service by the remote client computer via a public network that connects the remote client computer to the Web server. Responsive to sending the remote application discover request, a discovery response from the Web service is received. The discovery response identifies at least one application installed on the Intranet for terminal server (TS) based access by a user of the remote client computer.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2003Date of Patent: January 6, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Tad Dennis Brockway, Robert K. Patent number: 7469298Abstract: In a communication method: processing for designation of a service provider, user authentication, and IP address assignment is performed by exchanging management frames between a user terminal and a service provider through an access network; and main-signal frames each having an IPoE form and containing a source Layer 2 address of the user terminal are exchanged between the user terminal and the service provider through the access network. The management frames have a form which can be discriminated from the main-signal frames in Layer 2, and the access network holds information on correspondences between source Layer 2 addresses and virtual private networks. The access network recognizes one of the virtual private networks connected to the service provider, based on the source Layer 2 address contained in each main-signal frame, and transfers the main-signal frames in Layer 2 by MAC bridging.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2002Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Atsushi Kitada, Masato Okuda

Patent number: 7409435Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of automatically downloading and testing binary code for a customer premises telecommunications hub. When a new binary file is received by the hub, it is loaded into flash memory, but is not locked or designated as the currently active binary file. A trial run message is then written into SDRAM identifying the new file. The system if rebooted and starts up with the new file. A verification process is run to determine if the new file functions properly. If it does, the trial run message is deleted and the new file is locked into flash memory as the current binary. If the trial fails, the trial run message is deleted and the system is rebooted with the previous binary file.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2002Date of Patent: August 5, 2008Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Thomas Bayerl, Steven R. Patent number: 7401144Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for a technician to access an intranet through a systems interface to back-end legacy systems. Generally, a technician logs a computer into a systems interface that permits access to back-end legacy systems. Preferably, the systems interface is located on at least a first network address. Preferably, the systems interface includes a first server with middleware for managing the protocol interface. Preferably, the systems interface includes a second server for receiving requests and generating legacy transactions. After the computer is logged in, a request for access to an intranet is made. Preferably, the request results from the technician selecting an icon or engaging a software button. After the request is processed, a message is sent from the systems interface to the computer. The message causes the computer to launch a software application that seeks out a separate network address corresponding to the intranet.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: AT&T Delaware Intellectual Property, Inc.Inventors: Steven G. Patent number: 7392326Abstract: A method for text entry in an electronic device is disclosed. As a user enters text, such as a URL, into a handheld device the entered text is matched to previously visited URLs and these matched URLs are displayed in a list. The entered text may also be matched to any stored list of URLs or text. Typically, the matching searches for any instances of the entered text no matter the location of the entered text in the matched string. If one of the listed URLs is the URL desired by the user, then the user may select that URL and navigate a web browser to the URL without entering any more text. One of the items in the list may be the entered text with an automatically added prefix and suffix. These features significantly reduce the difficulty of entering URLs, especially on a device with limited input capabilities.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventor: Peter O.
