    Abstract: A clamping mechanism for a power tool which has a bayonet washer rotatably mounted on the end of a plunger so that the bayonet washer is rotatable between an open and a closed position. The bayonet washer is biassed towards the closed position by a torsion spring, but is latched in the open position when no operating member is positioned in the clamping mechanism. When an operating member is inserted into the mechanism through a slot in the bayonet washer and into engagement with the plunger, the washer is automatically released from the open position and rotates under the biassing force of the torsion spring to the closed position whereupon the operating member is locked into the power tool.

The can opener includes a traction wheel supported for rotation by the turning knob, turning a can, a rotary cutting disk rotatable by the knob for opening the can while the can is being turned, and a mounting plate rotatably supporting the cutting disk. The mounting plate is movable by the lever to slide linearly between a rearward position corresponding to the open position in which the cutting disk is spaced from the traction wheel and a forward position corresponding to the closed position in which the cutting disk is close to the traction wheel.

Each gas cylinder has a piston reciprocable within a vertical cylinder body. The piston has an upwardly extending piston rod for engaging the lower die portion. The cylinder body has a lower portion beneath the piston connected to the gas under pressure. A first passage connects an upper portion of the cylinder body above the piston to the lower portion of the cylinder body beneath the piston. A second passage connects the lower portion of the cylinder body to a tank. A third passage connects the upper portion of the cylinder body to the tank. First, second and third valves in the respective first, second and third passages control gas flow.

    Abstract: In order to achieve speed up of the piercing operation to form elongated forms in a thin sheet whose length is greater than the thickness and width thereof, a piercing apparatus is provided with an upper roller die having a first cutter roller held between press rollers so that the first cutter roller protrudes at the outer peripheral portion thereof, from the outer peripheral surfaces of the press rollers, a lower roller die having recesses between two second cutter rollers and engaging with the outer peripheral portion of the first cutter roller. The thin sheet is continuously fed in the lengthwise direction thereof into the engagement portion between the upper and lower dies. When a sliding cutter is engaged in the recesses formed on the first cutter roller, the thin sheet passing through the engagement portion is cut to form elongated holes.

The free end of the blade (7B) prevents the discarded portion (11) from returning after each cutting step.

    Abstract: A system to accurately align relative to each other a pair of rotary die cylinders having co-acting cutting blades formed by integral lands projecting generally radially outwardly from each cylinder. Each cylinder has an alignment groove formed therein such that when the cutting blades of the die cylinders are in alignment, the alignment grooves of each cylinder are aligned and define a slot between the cylinders which is constructed to receive an alignment pin. To initially align the die cylinders relative to each other, they are free to move both axially and rotatably relative to each other to permit the die cylinders to fully engage an alignment pin or pins inserted between the cylinders. Preferably, an alignment slot is provided adjacent each end of each cylinder with each slot constructed to receive a separate alignment pin to more accurately register or align the die cylinders relative to each other.

    Abstract: A shingle trimming tool comprises a stationary and and a movable blades with edges. When a manually operated lever is lowered, the movable blade is mounted to reciprocate towards a closed position with the edges in contact and returns to an open position. The blade moves with a sliding action in which the reciprocating edge is driven into confrontation with the stationary edge to pinch work between the blades. When the lever is raised, then the movable blade slides back to an open position. The fixed blade and a pair of matched bell cranks are supported by a frame. The movable blade is supported by the bell cranks which hold the sharp edge of the movable blade parallel to the sharp edge of the lower blade during the entire reciprocal path traversed from open to closed position and back to the open position. The lever is connected to links provides leverage to force the movable blade down into contact with the stationary blade.

The thus structured and arranged wire saw has an improved efficiency and precision in cutting. The wire saw can be manufactured readily by using an enamelling oven.

    Abstract: A resilient scoring rule for a rotary cutting die produces a creased or indented line in cardboard or paperboard along which line the board is subsequently folded when formed into a final product, such as a container. The scoring rule has a longitudinally extending, centrally disposed projecting web and opposed, cantilevered, symmetrical inwardly directed left and right ears having ends generally adjacent the central web. A pair of outwardly extending flanges raise the edge adjacent regions of the rule off the cutting die surface and function as mounting features which cooperate with staples or other retaining devices. An alternate embodiment scoring rule includes a pair of center projections or ribs flanked by a pair of cantilevered ears.
