  • Patent number: 4741496
Abstract: There is provided a tape cartridge comprising a tape receiving member formed near a tape running path in the tape cartridge for receiving a tape, and a tape pushing member arranged to face the tape receiving member through the tape, the tape pushing member being arranged to move between a tape pinching position in which the tape is pinched between the tape receiving member and the tape pushing member, and a cancellation position in which the tape pushing member moves away from the tape. Accordingly, when the tape pushing member is positioned at the tape pinching position, the tape cartridge can prevent the tape from protruding from the front surface of the tape cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4738093
Abstract: An automatic splicer for spun yarn, including open end spun yarn. Opposite yarn ends for splicing are inserted in opposed yarn clamping devices, adjacent yarn loop pulling devices, in a splicing slot of a splicing chamber, adjacent mechanical combing devices and in yarn severing devices. Excess yarn is cut from the yarn ends by the yarn severing devices at a predetermined distance from the splicing slot and the yarn loop pulling devices are advanced to pull the ends of the yarns to the combing devices at which air is applied to the yarn ends to direct the yarn ends to the combing devices. The yarn loop pulling devices are then partially retracted to feed the yarn ends into the combing devices at a controlled rate of feed for combing the yarn ends progressively from their ends to a length corresponding approximately to the length of the subsequent splice.

  • Patent number: 4738095
Abstract: The process for operation of a spinning or twisting machine calls for a plurality of working units which are concentrated in groups with at least one motor and tangential belt. The spinning or twisting machine has a different total power need based on different total numbers of working units and/or use of working units with different individual power needs. Independently of the total power need of the spinning or twisting machine, all the motors have the same dimensions. The number of motors are selected so that the sum of the nominal power output of the motors at least approximately corresponds to the total power need of the spinning or twisting machine. Each of the motors are associated with a number of the working units such that the sum of the individual power need of the working units corresponds at least approximately to the nominal power of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4730451
Abstract: Apparatus for making a yarn comprises two juxtaposed, closely spaced apart twisting drums (1), which are adapted to be driven in the same sense, and an inclined fiber-guiding duct (4), which succeeds fiber-opening means (3) and protrudes into the generally triangular twisting space (2) between the two twisting drums (1) and serves to supply singled fibers in an entraining air stream to the generally triangular twisting space (2).In order to ensure a supply of properly oriented and uniformly distributed fibers into the generally triangular twisting space (2), the length (L) of the shortest boundary wall (5) of the fiber-guiding duct (4), which wall faces the generally triangular twisting space (2), is at least as large as the average length of the longest fibers to be processed in the apparatus, the ratio of the length (1) to the width (b) of the flow area is between 10:1 and 2:1, and the entraining air stream has a mean velocity of flow corresponding to a Reynolds number of 5,000 to 50,000.

  • Patent number: 4730835
Abstract: A sealing assembly for effecting the sealing of an annulus between two telescopically related tubular conduits, of the type employed in subterranean wells, is achieved by utilizing annular seal backup elements dieformed from a knitted wire mesh by two successive dieforming steps. In the first dieforming, the knitted mesh backup element is formed to an external diameter equal to or preferably exceeding the maximum diameter that will be required for the backup member to assume when expanded into engagement with the outer wall of the annulus to be sealed. The second dieforming operation reduces the external diameter of the annular knitted mesh seal backup element to a dimension less than the outer wall of the annulus to be sealed, thus permitting convenient assembly and run-in of the sealing assemblage. The two step dieforming operation significantly reduces the amount of axial compressive force required to expand the sealing elements and the seal backup members to their sealed position.

  • Patent number: 4727716
Abstract: To improve integration of fibers into a yarn end and thereby improve yarn quality, fibers are directed to a feeding nip defined on an opposite side of a pair of friction rollers forming a spinning nip. The fibers are directed out of the feeding nip, passed between the friction rollers, and forwarded into the spinning nip. One of the friction rollers may constitute a conveying roller which exerts greater force upon the fibers than the other roller to securely convey fibers through a gap between the rollers and into the spinning nip.

  • Patent number: 4727715
Abstract: A piecing process is provided for an open-end friction spinning apparatus of the type including movable friction surface members forming a yarn-forming zone therebetween. A friction surface driving device for moving the friction surface members during operation and for interrupting the movement of the friction surface members is also included in the apparatus. The spinning apparatus further includes a yarn end orientation member for orienting a yarn end during the piecing process. The process includes placing a yarn end into the yarn-forming zone when the rollers are stopped. The friction surface members are started such that the yarn end is prevented from being pulled too deeply into the yarn-forming zone by the yarn end orientation device. An apparatus for carrying out this process is also provided.
