  • Patent number: 4920739
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reestablishing the spinning operation at a spinning station of an open end spinning machine after a yarn break or after completion of winding of a full package. A traveling piecing unit responds to signals at a spinning station that indicate that a yarn break has occurred, that a package changing operation has occurred, or that winding of a package has been completed. Independently, a traveling package changing unit responds to a signal indicating that winding of a package has been completed at a spinning station and performs the package changing operation. When the piecing unit responds to a yarn break at a spinning station, it locates and withdraws the end of broken yarn from the package and positions it in a position where the unit then feeds the end to the spinning element to piece it with new yarn being spun and then releases it to the package, which resumes winding.

  • Patent number: 4921155
Abstract: An apparatus for conveying a tape material having different surface moduli on either side by nipping with a pair of rotatable rollers and a method of conveying the same is disclosed. The tape material having different surface moduli is conveyed by an apparatus having a pair of rollers having different surface moduli with each other, so that the roller in contact with the relatively higher elastic modulus side of said tape has a relatively higher surface elastic modulus, and the roller in contact with the relatively lower elastic modulus side of the tape has a relatively lower surface elastic modulus.

  • Patent number: 4919318
Abstract: Side registration is provided for a web during its forward movement by lateral movement of the web causing one side edge of the web to engage a registration edge guide, by moving the web sideways with self-skewed pivotal rollers engaging and driving the web at their nip. Two separate roller drive systems with a slight speed differential are utilized in cooperation acting on the same web. A downstream, fixed nip, non-slip, roller drive system drives the sheet in its primary direction of movement, at a first driving velocity. Simultaneously, the same web is driven at an upstream position by a pivotal nip drive roller system. This upstream (pivotal nip) roller system is mounted on a pivot arm to pivot therewith, and is driven at a second driving velocity which is slightly lower than the first driving velocity of the other, downstream, roller drive system.

  • Patent number: 4918911
Abstract: A spinning machine has an electric motor for rotating a bobbin-supporting spindle to build a package of yarn thereon and a funnel for guiding yarn onto the spindle. The spindle is rotatingly driven by an electric motor and the electric motors of the spindle and the funnel are commonly connected to a frequency control means which is, in turn, connected to an electrical power supply means. The torque of the funnel electric motor is a function of a characteristic of the funnel in accordance with the relationship that the funnel is rotated by its electric motor at a lower rate relative to the contemporaneous rate of rotation of the spindle. The apparatus can include a switch assembly selectively movable between leads for selectively connecting the funnel electric motor to the frequency control apparatus to operate the motor or to the electrical power supply means to brake the motor.

  • Patent number: 4918838
Abstract: This is a sole with compressible shock absorbers which not only provides an improved shock absorbing function but also provides more comfort for the wearer. The shock absorbers consist of a polygonal replaceable air bellows placed in a polygonal recess on the forefoot section of the shoe and a cylindrical replaceable air cylinder placed in a circular recess on the heel section of the shoe. The air cylinder and air bellows are made of an integrally resilient air-tight material such that, during exercise, the shock absorbers absorb and then return the energy in a controlled upward direction, by way of the bellows-type body and the friction caused between the inside wall of the recess and the bellows itself. Moreover, since the shock absorbers can be placed easily by hand, the wearer can adjust the shoes in line with his weight and type of sport performed.

  • Patent number: 4919319
Abstract: Contactless support guides serve to create a cushion of pressurized air to hold a web of material such as paper spaced from a support face. The support face can be curved to transport the web through an angular deviation. The support face contains a large number of shallow pockets at least some of which emit air to create the cushion. Special additional pockets or slats are provided to create zones of higher pressure in the regions of the cushion where the web enters and exits the guide.

  • Patent number: 4914838
Abstract: A sport shoe is provided having a circular cleat array disposed about but not directly beneath the metatarsal joint of the great toe. The shoe sole also includes a flex area in the region of the metatarsal joints. This combination permits flexure of and cradles the metatarsal joints on impact. Furthermore, the sport shoe preferably includes a toe drag element defined forwardly and upwardly of the metatarsal cradle and on the interior edge as a lip extending onto and over a portion of the shoe upper. The toe drag element protects the material of the shoe from the effects of toe drag while minimizing any reduction in flexibility of the shoe.

  • Patent number: 4915283
Abstract: A clamping arrangement is disclosed for gripping and carrying web material about a die turret of a packaging machine for molding the web and for carrying the web through and off the packing machine as product is loaded and the package is sealed. The clamping arrangement includes a pair of aligned drive chains and a plurality of facing clamps mounted on each chain. Each clamp includes a lower jaw and an upper jaw pivotally mounted to the lower jaw and actuable between an opened and a closed position. A spring is connected between the upper and lower jaws which biases the upper jaw to the closed position. The lower and upper jaws each define complemental gripping teeth along an edge thereof, the respective teeth being disposed intermediate and adjacent one another when the upper jaw is in the closed position. The teeth of the lower jaw are horizontally aligned with the pitch line of the drive chain when assembled to the chain.

  • Patent number: 4913367
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a technique for measuring the width (l) of a strip uncoiled from a coil material (3) to be fed to a press line, wherein linear displacement of both support shafts (4) on uncoiler mechanisms (1) adapted to support the coil material (3) from both sides using a mechanism including racks (8) and a pinion (5) is converted into rotational displacement so that an amount of actual linear displacement of both the support shafts (4) represented by (L.sub.1 +L.sub.2) is detected by detecting the rotational displacement of the pinion 5. The coil width is measured by subtracting the amount of linear displacement of the pinions (5) represented by (L.sub.1 +L.sub.2) from the distance (L) between both of support shafts which can be measured when both the support shafts (4) are displaced to predetermined positions where they are displaced to the rearmost ends.
