Abstract: Flame retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) compositions are disclosed having a flame retardant package comprising an organo-phosphinate component, an organo-phosphate component, and a polyhydric alcohol. The flame retardant components may be present in an amount from about 5 to about 40 weight percent of the phosphinate compound; from about 5 to about 20 weight percent of the phosphate compound, and from about 0.1 to about 15 weight percent of the polyhydric alcohol, based on the total weight of the TPU composition. Processes are disclosed to make the TPU compositions and to make wire and cable constructions employing the TPU compositions as the jacket of the wire and cable constructions. The TPU compositions exhibit excellent flame retardant capabilities as measured by Limited Oxygen Index testing and/or UL 94 Vertical Burn tests.
Abstract: A polymer composition, stretched and unstretched articles and processes to make stretched and unstretched articles from that composition are set forth wherein the composition comprises a blend of a polyamide wherein the amino to carboxyl end group ratio of the polyamide polymer is less than 1.0 when the relative viscosity of the polyamide polymer is less than 2.0, and less than 0.30 when the relative viscosity is in the range of 2.0 to 2.3 and less than 0.20 when the relative viscosity is greater than 2.3, a crystallizable polyester and an interfacial tension reducing agent.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of making sporting surfaces, particularly animal racing surfaces such as horse racing tracks, comprising mixing a polysiloxane polymer or polymers with a mixture of solid materials. This invention overcomes many of the problems associated with prior art surfaces, and can be used to modify or repair such prior art surfaces, or can be incorporated into newly manufactured surfaces to greatly enhance their physical properties. The invention imparts highly desirable physical characteristics to manufactured sporting surfaces, extends the temperature range throughout which these surfaces can be used, and provides a more consistent, reliable and long lasting surface.

Abstract: A composition that contains from 30 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of the composition, of a thermoplastic component and an effective amount of a flow-enhancing component. The effective amount of the flow-enhancing component reduces the viscosity of the composition by at least 10% compared to the viscosity of a composition comprising the thermoplastic component, but not an effective amount of the flow-enhancing component. The thermoplastic component is selected from the group consisting of polycarbonates, polyesters, and combinations thereof. The flow-enhancing component comprises b1) a component selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, metalloid oxides, metal alkoxides, metalloid alkoxides, and combinations thereof and b2) a mineral filler component. The weight ratio of component b1) to component b2) ranges from 1:25 to 25:1. A method for enhancing the flow of compositions comprising thermoplastic components is also disclosed.
