  • Patent number: 8379641
Abstract: a method for reducing computational and/or bandwidth requirements in a network including a multicast router and a layer 2 network element by efficiently communicating required source state information. The method comprises receiving at the layer 2 network element a source interest list from a host over a multicast network. The layer 2 multicast network element transmits a message to the multicast router, the message formatted to be processed by a multicast routing protocol on the multicast router after a protocol header is removed by a light host management protocol on the multicast router without any additional processing. Responsive to receiving the message at the multicast router, the light host management protocol removes the protocol header and sending the message to the multicast routing protocol to alter a set of multicast sources to be routed to the host.

  • Patent number: 8379634
Abstract: Systems and methods to route a call over a voice and data network (VDN) are provided. A particular method includes receiving a call from a calling device at a telecommunications gateway (TCG). Authentication data is received via the call. A determination is made whether a user account associated with the authentication data is authorized to route calls via the TCG to a VDN. When the user account is authorized to route calls via the TCG to the VDN, call data received at the TCG via the call is converted into a format compatible with the VDN. The converted call data is sent via the VDN to a destination device.

  • Patent number: 8369346
Abstract: Method and system for restricting a first node in a broadcast domain of an IP (Internet Protocol) network from communicating with one or more other nodes. Each of the first node and the one or more other nodes has a respective translation table that maps an IP address to a respective physical address of all nodes with which the first node and the one or more other nodes have communicated. Embodiments of the invention describe obtaining communicated data including address resolution messages and accessing an address resolution table representative of address resolution activity in the network. Responsive to the communicated data indicating that the first node is communicating with other nodes, restricting the first node from communicating by generating and conveying a restricting address resolution message using information stored in the address resolution table, the restricting address resolution message including a substitute physical address.

  • Patent number: 8300641
Abstract: High-speed processing of packets to, and from, a virtualization environment can be provided while utilizing segmentation offload and other such functionality of commodity hardware. Virtualization information can be added to extension portions of protocol headers, for example, such that the payload portion is unchanged and, when physical address information is added to a frame, a frame can be processed using commodity hardware. In some embodiments, the virtualization information can be hashed and added to the payload or stream at, or relative to, various segmentation boundaries, such that the virtualization or additional header information will only be added to a subset of the packets once segmented, thereby reducing the necessary overhead. Further, the hashing of the information can allow for reconstruction of the virtualization information upon desegmentation even in the event of packet loss.

  • Patent number: 8259740
Abstract: The present invention discloses a packet processing method, which applies to a high-performance and scalable flow processing system architecture. The service board performs security processing for packets received from external devices by using the firewall function before sending them to the main CPU; similarly, the service board also performs security processing for packets sent from the main CPU by using the firewall function before the main CPU sends them to external devices. The methods of the present invention utilize high performance and good scalability of the new architecture. In a network with heavy and high-speed traffic, the service board performs security processing for packets by using the firewall function and then transmits the valid packets to the main CPU. Thus, the main CPU is protected by the firewall function against attack packets.

  • Patent number: RE43705
Abstract: A method for optimally serving Stations (STA) on Wireless Local Area Network (LAN) using a Controlled Contention/Resource Reservation protocol of the IEEE 802.11e standard. The Wireless LAN includes multiple STAs, mobile or Stationary, airlinked to an access point as a Basic Service Set (BSS). A Hybrid Coordinator (HC) is co-located with the access point for allocating the bandwidth for the BSS using a Controlled Contention/Resource Reservation protocol defined in the IEEE Standard 802.11(e). The HC transmits Contention Control (CC) frames and initiates Controlled Contention Intervals (CCI) having a selected number of slotted intervals. HC receives Resource Reservations (RR) detailing bandwidth needs from STA contenders during a specified time interval called the Controlled Contention Interval (CCI.). Several parameters are installed in each CC for contention control purpose.
