  • Patent number: 7075949
Abstract: The time required for switch the channel can be remarkably curtailed. When broadcasting signals through a plurality of information channels with an OFDM system, the plurality of information channels are multiplexed in the sense of frequency and collectively subjected to IFFT modulation for connected transmission instead of subjecting the plurality of information channels independently to OFDM modulation for transmission. With this arrangement, the efficiency of exploitation of frequencies is improved. According to the invention, the OFDM frames are synchronized for each information channel for the purpose of connected transmission. Then, the OFDM receiver can switch the information channel for signal reception, maintaining the frame synchronizing signals.

  • Patent number: 7075905
Abstract: Techniques for generating quality indicator bits in a wireless communication system (e.g., a cdma2000 that implements IS-2000). In one method, a determination is first made whether a good data frame was received from a first transmission for the current frame interval. This first transmission may be a non-continuous transmission on a forward dedicated control channel (F-DCCH) defined by IS-2000. If a good data frame was received, then a quality indicator bit is generated based on the good data frame. Otherwise, the quality indicator bit is generated based on a second transmission, which may comprise power control bits that are transmitted even when no data frames are sent in the first transmission. The received signal quality for the power control bits can be measured and compared against a threshold, and the quality indicator bit is then set based on the result of the comparison. The threshold may be dynamically updated.

  • Patent number: 7075937
Abstract: This method applies to the transmission of information during a communication session, on a network having at least one switch, over at least one path between a so-called “source” node and a so-called “destination” node. The network is adapted to transmit data according to at least one connected mode and at least one non-connected mode. The session includes the transmission of at least one packet including on the one hand “user” data and on the other hand additional data defining notably the path on the said network which the said user data will follow. Each time a packet is received, the destination node performs: an operation of reading the said additional data (601), and an operation of determining the transmission mode (602), connected or non-connected, taking into account at least some of the said additional data.

  • Patent number: 7072358
Abstract: Data are transmitted between a core network (CN) and at least one access system (BSS) of a GSM based access system type via an Iu interface (Iu-I/F). Also, the present invention aims to provide accordingly adapted network elements. By virtue of the present invention, substantial savings concerning resources can be obtained by supporting data formats of GSM coded speech on the open, i.e., not network operator proprietary, Iu interface according to UMTS/3rd generation specifications. Thus, GSM transcoders and 3rd generation transcoders as well as GSM base station controllers and 3rd generation radio network controllers can be integrated, so that the same hardware resources can be used for both systems, i.e., for GSM as well as for 3rd generation.

  • Patent number: 7072360
Abstract: Hybrid fiber/coax networks employ the existing cable plant used for cable TV and transmit data signals in a frequency bandwidth above that which is used for cable TV. The present system used point-to-point data links between intelligent network elements located in the feeder/distribution network to provide reliable, secure, bi-directional broadband access. Digital signals are terminated at the intelligent network elements, switched and regenerated for transmission across additional upstream or downstream data links as needed to connect a home to a headend or router. The intelligent network elements can be co-located with or replace the standard network elements. A tree-and-branch network architecture is therefore established in which each intelligent network element is assigned a routing ID employed in the point-to-point transmissions while leaving legacy analog signals unimpeded. In this manner, the data links are made over relatively short runs of coax cable, which can provide greater bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 7068602
Abstract: Methods and devices for controlling and managing data flow and data transmission rates. A feedback mechanism is used in conjunction with measuring output transmission rates to control the input transmission rates, changing conditions can be accounted for an excess output transmission capacity can be shared among numerous input ports. Similarly, by using maximum and minimum rates which can be requested from an output port, minimum transmission rates can be guaranteed for high priority traffic while capping maximum output rates for low priority traffic. By combining the two ideas of feedback rate control and placing maximum requestable transmission rates, a more equitable output sharing mechanism arises. The measured output transmission rate is used to control and recalculate the maximum requestable output transmission rate for incoming flows, thereby allowing for changing network and data flow conditions.

  • Patent number: 7068607
Abstract: An architecture for resource management of an IP-based cellular radio access network is presented. A measurement-based admission control scheme is used to monitor the load for each path in the network and QoS (quality of service) class and resource decisions are made based upon that information. A bandwidth broker is introduced in the cellular radio access network (RAN). The bandwidth broker processes the on-demand admission requests for IP resources by using the results of load control measurements. Since the requests can be processed very quickly using a simple table look-up, response times are fast, and the architecture is thus suitable for the cellular environment.
