    Abstract: An additive composition prepared by the steps comprising:(A) reacting a styrene-ethylene butylene-styrene block copolymer, having a styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene molecular weight ratios, respectively, of 1:6:1 to 1:3:1 characterized in that unsaturation in the styrene blocks is equal to or greater than 50 percent and the ethylene butylene block is hydrogenated leaving no more than 10 percent unsaturation, with at least one olefinic carboxylic acid acylating agent to form one or more acylating reaction intermediates characterized by having a carboxylic acid acylating function within their structure, and(B) reacting said reaction intermediate in (A) with an amino-aromatic polyamine compound and a lubricating oil composition containing same are provided.

    Abstract: A process for improving the electromechanical coupling factor (Kp) of a polarized piezoelectric ceramics by thermal cycle treatment. The process comprises the steps of:(a) keeping the polarized piezoelectric ceramics at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 130.degree. C. for from 10 to 60 minutes;(b) cooling the polarized piezoelectric ceramics to room temperature rapidly;(a) repeating steps (a) and (b) until the electromechanical coupling factor of the polarized piezoelectric ceramics saturates.The process of the present invention is effective in elevating the electromechanical coupling factor (Kp) of a polarized piezoelectric ceramics by an degree of from 3 to 8 percent. The useful life of the polarized piezoelectric ceramics is therefore elongated.

    Abstract: A lubricating oil composition is provided which comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of an additive having the formula Mo.sub.4 S.sub.4 L.sub.6 in which L is a ligand selected from dithiocarbamates, dithiophosphates, dithiophosphinates, thioxanthates, and mixtures thereof and in which the ligands, L, have organo groups having a sufficient number of carbon atoms to render the additive soluble in the oil. In general, the organo groups of the ligands, L, will be the same, although they may be different and they preferably are selected from alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl and ether groups. For example, when L is a dialkyldithiocarbamate or a dialkyldithiophosphate, the alkyl groups will have from about 1 to 30 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a novel lubricating composition comprising a polyoxyalkylene glycol having a cap of a fluorinated alkyl group on at least one end thereof. The composition has a molecular weight between 300 and 3,000, a viscosity of about 5 to about 150 centistokes at 37.degree. C., and a viscosity index of at least 20. The composition is miscible in combination with tetrafluoroethane in the range between -40.degree. C. and at least +20.degree. C.The novel lubricating composition is particularly useful with tetrafluoroethane in refrigeration and air-conditioning applications. As such, the present invention also provides a composition for use in refrigeration and air-conditioning comprising: (a) tetrafluoroethane; and (b) a sufficient amount to provide lubrication of at least one polyoxyalkylene glycol having a cap of fluorinated alkyl group on at least one end thereof. The lubricant has a molecular weight of about 300 to about 3,000, a viscosity of about 5 to about 150 centistokes at 37.degree.

The preferred process includes: reacting a fresh hydrocarbon stream containing C.sub.4 + iso-alkene with lower aliphatic alcohol in an etherification zone in contact with an acidic etherification catalyst under etherification conditions whereby an effluent stream containing C5+ tertiary-alkyl ether is produced; separating the etherification effluent stream to provide a first liquid stream comprising C5+ ether and a second stream comprising unreacted alcohol and C4+ hydrocarbons; contacting the second stream with acidic metallosilicate catalyst for conversion of oxygenates and olefins under olefin oligomerization and isomerization conditions at elevated temperature; separating oligomerization effluent to recover an intermediate hydrocarbon stream rich in C.sub.

    Abstract: A polymeric lubricating oil additive containing pendant perfluoroaliphatic urethane units that behaves as a VI Improver and a fuel economy enhancer when added to lubricating oil compositions. The polymeric substrate may be a copolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene and propylene or a terpolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene, propylene, and 20-80 mole % of a non-conjugated diene or triene (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha olefin. The copolymer or terpolymer substrate has a molecular weight range of about 5,000 to about 500,000. A graft copolymer or terpolymer containing pendant isocyanate groups is prepared by reacting the ethylene propylene co- or terpolymer with an acrylating agent. Post-reacting the copolymer or terpolymer containing the pendant isocyanate group with a perfluoroaliphatic alcohol generates the additive.

When used collectively, the recited composition has been found to significantly increase the octane of such hydrocarbon fuels while enhancing their anti-knock, anti-icing, anti-oxidency, anti-corrosion, detergency, and combustion properties and providing a lubrication quality to spark ignition-type engines used to burn the hydrocarbon fuels.
