Patent number: 4903078Abstract: Imaging apparatus includes a light transparent platen for holding an original document which may be smaller than the platen. A light source illuminates the platen to expose a document on the platen. Transmittance of light through that portion of the platen not covered by a document is selectively inhibited, preferably by becoming substantially opaque. A light-blocking platen cover is movable between an operative, light blocking position and a non-use position. The light inhibiting operation is actuated when the cover is moved to its non-use position. Document recognition is used for detecting the outline of the original document on the exposure platen to control actuation of the light inhibiting operation, which is preferably effected by a liquid crystalline cell which has a pair of opposed plates, a grid of transparent electrodes interposed between the pair of plates, and a layer of crystalline material interposed between the pair of plates contacting the grid.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Eugene D. Patent number: 4855788Abstract: A copier is equipped with an automatic paper transporting device such that documents which have been processed and removed from a document processing position can be discharged onto a receiving discharge tray in a specified sequence. The discharge sequence is stored as input data and a central processing unit makes reference to these data in controlling the motion of the documents, determining for each document whether it should go directly onto the discharge tray or should be temporarily held on another tray. Similar transporting devices can be used in connection with a copier such that documents can be fed in a specified order which may be different from the way they are stacked or that copy paper sheets processed in a certain sequence may be discharged in a different specified sequence.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yoshihalu Fujii
