    Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing an ink knife for the ink duct roller of a printing machine from an at least about 2 mm thick metal plate. Parallel slits are formed which extend from the working edge of the ink knife over part of the plate width and form lamellas of color zone width. Parallel transverse and blind-ended grooves which start at the working edge are first cut into the metal plate at intervals which correspond to the width of the color zones. Afterwards, a continuation rating groove that extends parallel to the working edge is cut in the area of the blind ends of the transverse grooves, preferably on at least one side of the metal plate. Finally the metal plate is completely cut through in the area of the transverse grooves, preferably by means of laser beams, forming a narrow slit at intervals which correspond to the width of the color zones.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for printing multi-color images onto a cylindrical body includes ink adhesion mechanisms that adhere different colors of ink to an outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical body. Ink drying mechanisms are included for drying the different colored inks adhered to the cylindrical body after the completion of the respective ink adhesion processes. Each of the ink adhesion mechanisms is arranged such that a mandrel, about which the cylindrical body is held, is moved in an arc along the outer periphery of a cylinder-shaped blanket which is disposed around the outer peripheral surface of an blanket cylinder. Ink is applied to the cylindrical body from the blanket at a position where the cylindrical body contacts the blanket. The blanket cylinder is rotated about an axis thereof in the direction opposite to the moving direction of the mandrel. The mandrel is rotated about an axis thereof so that a relative velocity of the cylindrical body and the blanket at the contact portion is zero.

Thus, occurrence of generation can be prevented and the image data can be compressed efficiently. The locations of a final output image to which the compressed data corresponds are managed with a compressed page buffer management table, etc., so that the final output image can be restored based on the managed location information and image quality degradation can be avoided.

    Abstract: A keyboard is described which integrates ergonomic modification while taking into consideration the psychological resistance to changing existing, familiar designs. Accordingly, the geometric relationships between keys is selected such that there is a correspondence drawn between the relative positions of the base of the fingers (i.e., where the fingers meet the hand), the wrist, and the natural orientation of the fingertips. This correspondence correlates the organization of keys with the arrangements of the metacarpophalangeal joints forming the base of the fingers. This is supported by a theory concerning the way the human brain may track the positions of the fingers and hands. As well, the creation of logical groups are detailed which allow more ergonomic adjustment of the keys, yet preserve the existing geometry of an original keyboard. In particular, these ergonomic modifications are applied to the standard geometry of the "Qwerty" or "Dvorak" keyboard.

The electronically adjusted new material is then printed onto the designated area of the target disk without having to rotate the disk.

    Abstract: Compact printer with quick-loading cassette and method therefor. The invention includes a printer enclosure and a cassette insertable into the enclosure. The cassette includes a dye ribbon supply reel having a dye donor ribbon wound thereabout and a rotatable dye ribbon take-up reel engaging an end portion of the donor ribbon for taking-up the donor ribbon. A curved receiver supply tray is disposed in the cassette for supplying receiver sheets to the printhead which is disposed in the enclosure. The curved receiver supply tray occupies less space, depending on the radius of curvature, than the elongate rectangularly-shaped receiver supply trays of the prior art. Over time, a stack of the receiver sheets residing in the supply tray obtains a curved contour because the stack of receiver sheets conforms to the curved shape of the receiver supply tray.
