  • Patent number: 8299902
Abstract: Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for helping to ensure that an alarm of a mobile communications device is activated when desired. An illustrative method includes receiving an indication of a desired time that the alarm is intended to be activated, determining a power level of a power source that is powering the mobile communications device, determining whether the power level will provide sufficient power to the mobile communications device to enable it to activate the alarm at the desired time and, if so, then enabling the alarm to be set. Further, the power source could be monitored as the alarm-activation time approaches so that if variables change that might prevent the alarm from activating, then changes or preventive measures can be taken.

  • Patent number: 8289159
Abstract: The location of a device may be determined with respect to another device. For example, a locating device may be moved as it measures at least one distance to a target device. The locating device may then generate one or more indications relating to the measured distance or distances. The locating device also may generate one or more indications relating one or more determined directions to the target device. The target device may be moved in a predetermined manner to determine the location of the target device. Each of the devices may employ a single transceiver and a single antenna for the location determination operations.

  • Patent number: 8289165
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) device includes a conductive loop shield for a loop antenna. The shield may overlap the conductive loop antenna. The preferred frequency of operation may be a frequency or range of frequencies within the ultra high frequency (UHF) range of frequencies. The conductive loop shield provides a distributed capacitance to the loop antenna, which brings the inductance of the combined system of the loop antenna and the conductive shield down to an inductance level that allows impedance matching with the RFID chip (at the desired impedance or range of impedances). The use of the conductive loop allows the RFID device to function as a near-field magnetic communication device, utilizing a loop antenna having a larger area than would normally be possible for impedance-matching with RFID chip. The loop antenna and the conductive shield loop may be on opposed major surfaces of a dielectric material layer.

  • Patent number: 8279087
Abstract: A method for determining a parking spot including at least the following steps: measuring a parking spot and outputting a measured length of the parking spot; comparing the determined length to at least one limiting value and determining an indicator signal; outputting the indicator signal to the driver; recording vehicle dynamics signals, during a parking operation; evaluating the parking operation on the basis of the recorded vehicle dynamics signals and outputting an evaluation signal, and changing the at least one limiting value as a function of the evaluation signal and the indicator signal. An adaptive parking spot measurement is created in which an evaluation of the parking spot length is automatically adapted to the driving behavior and the driving skills of the respective driver, resulting in a particularly high degree of acceptance of the PSM system by the driver.

  • Patent number: 8223006
Abstract: A temperature warning system for a vehicle includes a thermal plug disposed on the wheel end assembly of the vehicle. The thermal plug is in fluid communication with an air supply and with a flow sensor. The flow sensor is operatively connected to a warning light or indicator. Excessive heat in the axle spindle end and/or the wheel end assembly causes a fusible material in the thermal plug to melt allowing air to flow from the air supply through the thermal plug thus activating the flow sensor. The flow sensor in turn activates the warning light or indicator alerting the driver of the vehicle of a problem condition at the wheel end assembly and/or axle spindle.
