  • Patent number: 9388548
Abstract: A pipe assembly may have one or more pipe segments that are coupled together or coupled to a drive socket by a coupler. The coupler may have a body with a generally tubular shape with an interior surface and an exterior surface. First and second flanges may extend outward from the exterior surface to engage the drive socket, thereby providing enhanced stability and coaxiality. The interior surface may have an upper receiving feature that can receive the bottom end of an overhead pipe segment, and a lower receiving feature that can receive the top end of a subtending pipe segment. The upper receiving feature may have an upper threaded bore with a lead-in portion that facilitates alignment of the overhead pipe segment with the upper threaded bore. The interior surface may also have a stop feature that prevents over-insertion of the top end and/or the bottom end into the coupler.

  • Patent number: 9315961
Abstract: A three dimensional high strength tightly woven turf reinforcement mat (TRM) or reusable sediment filtration mat designed to trap soil particles in water flow and provide a shear plane to prevent soil wash-out from within and beneath the mat. The mat includes a corrugated body structure integrally extruded or interwoven with a bottom layer that together form a plurality of parabolic sediment entrapment chambers. As sediment bed load moves with water flow into the woven structure, water flow forces sediment through openings in the woven surface of the corrugated body structure and into the chambers where the captured sediment serves as ballast to self-anchor the mat. The mat may also be incorporated during manufacture and/or during/after installation with polyacrylamides, chitosans or other soil flocculating/aggregating chemicals for increased sediment aggregation and capturing.

  • Patent number: 9290901
Abstract: The disclosure describes, in part, apparatuses and methods for installing structures (e.g., foundations, footings, anchors, abutments, etc.) at work sites, such as difficult-access work sites. In some instances, a rotating drill assembly is assembled over a target location in order to excavate a radial array of batter-angled shafts associated with the target location in preparation for the installation of a radial array of micropiles. An operator utilizes the rotating drill in combination with a foundation pile schedule/decision matrix to design and install the radial array of batter-angled micropiles. This disclosure also describes techniques for designing, fabricating and installing structural caps to be coupled to the installed radial array batter angled micropiles. These structural caps are lightweight and, thus, more portable to difficult-access sites where they are coupled to the micropiles forming a foundation for structure to be installed at the difficult-access site.
