Patent number: 10646216Abstract: An illustrative example surgical method includes establishing a tunnel in a bone. At least a portion of the suture is passed through the tunnel. The suture has two ends and first and second loops between the two ends. The first loop includes a button on the suture. The second loop is on one side of the tunnel and the button is on the other side of the tunnel after the portion of the suture has been passed through the tunnel. At least some of the second loop of the suture is passed through soft tissue. Manipulating the second loop over the button positions a portion of the soft tissue between the second loop of the suture and the bone. Adjusting a length of the second loop urges the portion of the soft tissue against the bone where the portion of the soft tissue is held by the suture without tying any knots in the suture.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: ARTHREX, INC.Inventors: John David Paterson, Andrew Christian Petry, Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez, Patrick Joel Denard

Patent number: 10624731Abstract: A vascular filter system comprises a vascular filter (1), a clamp device (50), and a delivery catheter (51). The filter (1) comprises filter elements (6). When used without the clamp device (50), the filter elements (6) move from a closed state to an open state upon elapse of a predetermined period of time. In the closed state the filter elements (6) capture thrombus passing through the inferior vena cava (2). The delivery catheter (51) is employed to deliver the clamp device (50) to the filter (1) after the filter (1) has been deployed in the inferior vena cava (2). The clamp device (50) engages with the filter elements (6) of the filter (1) to clamp the filter (1) in the closed state beyond elapse of the predetermined period of time. Because of the presence of the clamp device (50), the filter elements (6) are no longer free to move from the closed state to the open state upon elapse of the predetermined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2016Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: Novate Medical LimitedInventors: Paul Gilson, Steven Horan, Karl Keating, Aidan Goggin

Patent number: 10542964Abstract: A system for retrieving an implanted medical device includes an outer tubular member and a contractible super-elastic net, which may be joined to an elongate shaft that extends in sliding engagement within the outer tubular member. When the net expands from a contracted condition the net defines a longitudinally extending tubular cavity. An open end of the cavity is sized to receive passage of a housing of the device therethrough; and the net, with the device housing contained therein, forms an interference fit within an inner diameter of the outer tubular member. But, an outer diameter of the net, in a fully expanded condition, is larger than the inner diameter.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2016Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Rónán Wood, Lavie Golenberg, Paula McDonnell

Patent number: 10398555Abstract: The diameter of an annulus in a patient (e.g., the mitral valve annulus) can be reduced using a tissue engaging member that is installed on the annulus and an actuator that is implanted into the patient's body. The tissue engaging member has anchors used to implant the tissue engaging member into the annulus, and a cinching loop runs through the tissue engaging member. The cinching loop terminates onto cinching wires. Preferably, tissue healing is used to enhance the bond between the tissue engaging member and the annulus. The actuator, which can be actuated from outside the patient's body, pulls the cinching wires in a proximal direction while holding the distal end of the cinching wires in close proximity to each other, so as to cause a reduction in the diameter of the cinching loop. This will cause a corresponding reduction in the diameter of the annulus.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2016Date of Patent: September 3, 2019Assignee: Cardiac Implants LLCInventors: David Alon, Nimrod Meller
