  • Patent number: 7593378
Abstract: During the preamble interval of a wireless packet, a receiver estimates the SINR of the preamble, and also examines the packet header to determine the data rate, length, and destination address. If the SINR as determined from the preamble is below a threshold, or if the SINR combined with the data rate from the packet header is below a threshold, the receiver is powered down for the duration of the current packet. Additionally, if the packet header bears a destination address for a different station from the one receiving it, the receiver is powered down for the duration of the packet. In this manner, the receiver power is only used to receive packets that have sufficient SINR to be correctly received for their data rate, or are destined for the present station. The reduction in power consumption results in longer battery life for the station.

  • Patent number: 7593380
Abstract: A protocol for optimizing the use of coded transmissions such as over wireless links. In this technique, interframes are first split into segments selected to be an optimum size according to transmission characteristics of the radio channel. Segments are assigned a position identifier and redundancy check sum. Segments are then assembled into blocks and a forward error correction algorithm is applied to the block to generate redundancy bits. The FEC block is then split up among available communication channels and forwarded to the receiver. The inverse process is applied at the receiver. Using this scheme, only segments containing erroneous data need to be resent. A large block size required for high performance forward error correction may therefore be used while at the same time minimizing latencies associated with the need to resend entire blocks when errors cannot be recovered.

  • Patent number: 7583953
Abstract: A device and a method of subdividing data service charge in mobile communication network is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a billing initiation request signal from a wireless data service device (either an interworking function (IWF) unit or a packet data serving node (PDSN)), producing a usage-amount data for the subscriber based on at least one of the type and amount of data being transmitted through the wireless data service device on the mobile communication network. The method also includes, responsive to a billing end request signal, received from the wireless data service device, transferring a billing request signal, requesting to bill the subscriber for the usage-amount data, to an authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) unit. In one embodiment, the above method can apply to a graduated billing for the each service group in the mobile communication network.

  • Patent number: 7577438
Abstract: A method for addressing groups of stations in a wireless communication system begins by assigning the stations in the system into a number of groups. A group identifier is signaled to each station and the group identifier is indicated in a frame for each group that has data in the frame. The addressing method can be applied to power savings for the station, wherein the station enters a power saving mode if the group identifier for the station is not present in the frame.

  • Patent number: 7567821
Abstract: In response to a connection request from a terminal, a base station provides a signal indicating a reception operation adapted to a transmission operation of the base station to the terminal. Based on the indicating signal, the terminal selects and performs the optimum reception operation. The terminal also provides its own reception operation information in advance to the base station. Based on the reception operation information, the base station transmits a reception operation indication to the terminal. These processes are realized with software by a DSP.

  • Patent number: 7564832
Abstract: A Bluetooth master radio frequency unit addresses a slave radio frequency unit, to enable the slave to resynchronize to the master, by sending poll packets or null packets, the master being arranged to send sufficient null packets to enable the slave to resynchronize, before sending a poll packet, to determine whether the slave has resynchronized. This approach can provide the slave with the same number of synchronization packets as in the simpler algorithms, while allowing the slave to preserve more (transmit) power and still allowing the master to detect whether the slave has resynchronized or not (and thus to update a Link Supervision Timer for example). Notably this is also suitable for use in prescheduling implementations.

  • Patent number: 7551594
Abstract: A method of allocating frequency subbands in an ultrawideband (UWB) wireless communication system and an apparatus adopting the same are provided. The method of allocating frequency subbands to a device in a communication system, the method including: (a) determining whether usage of a first frequency band including upper frequency subbands is necessary; and (b) if it is determined that the usage of the first frequency band is necessary, not setting usage permission for the first frequency band to the device and not granting access to the first frequency band if a request for usage of the first frequency band is received from the device. When generation of a new piconet is necessary or generation of a new piconet is requested in a multi-piconet environment, since subbands of a high frequency group are allocated through negotiation, frequency resources are efficiently managed.

  • Patent number: 7548743
Abstract: IMS call control nodes and methods are disclosed for providing online charging in an IMS network. An IMS call control node receives a call message from a CSCF through a first interface for a call session, and determines whether to execute Application Server (AS) logic or gateway logic responsive to the call message. If the processing system determines that the call message should be processed with the AS logic, then the processing system executes the AS logic to perform a service and to contact the OCS for online charging for the service. If the processing system determines that the call message should be processed with the gateway logic, then the processing system executes the gateway logic to perform call session control and to contact the OCS for online charging for the call session.
