  • Patent number: 7751852
Abstract: Generally, the present invention provides stations for one or more portable electronic devices (PEDs) and methods for such stations. A station can support a PED, and sense when the PED would be notifying its user about a wireless signal that is received from a remote transmitter. When the station so senses, it further generates a human-perceptible indication to help notify the user, who might have walked away. The human-perceptible indication can include, a call sound, a light signal, etc. This way, for example, when the PED is only vibrating, the call sound can be such that the station rings like a regular home telephone, and/or the light signal can be such that the station lights up without distracting coworkers as much. As such, the user can always keep the PED at the “Silent” annunciation mode.

  • Patent number: 7751830
Abstract: Techniques for allowing a home agent to provide location/presence-based services are provided. In one embodiment, a point of attachment of an access network receives a discovery request from a mobile node. A mobile node is associated with a home agent in a home network different from the access network. Location/presence-based information is determined at the point of attachment. The location/presence-based information is added to a registration request at the layer 3 protocol layer. The registration request is then sent from the point of attachment to the home agent. When the registration request is received at the home agent, the home agent parses the registration request to determine the location/presence information from the request. The home agent then performs a location/presence service using the location/presence information.

  • Patent number: 7729317
Abstract: An antenna diversity receiver has a low-IF receiving mode and a diversity selection mode, and a switch arrangement for coupling one of the antennas to the IF channels when in the receiving mode, and coupling each of the channels to a different one of the antennas in the selection mode. A diversity controller compares qualities of signals received simultaneously from the different antennas during the selection mode, and controls the switch arrangement in the receiving mode, to use the better antenna. The quality measurement is carried out during reception of a carrier before a preamble to a desired signal is received, so that there is more time to obtain a better signal quality measurement and to enable better averaging over time. The channels have a polyphase filter with switchable cross coupling between the channels, so that it acts as two independent low pass filters in the selection mode.

  • Patent number: 7725143
Abstract: A cover mounted on a top surface of either mobile phone or PDA includes a top member; a bottom member fixedly mounted on the top surface and including two inner slide members on both sides; an intermediate member fixedly secured to the top member and partially disposed on the bottom member, the intermediate member including two outer slide members on both sides; and an elastic assembly including left and right elastic members including a triangular section at one end secured to the bottom member, a U-shaped intermediate section, and a straight section at the other end secured to the intermediate member. Pulling the top member will slide the intermediate member away from the bottom member by moving the outer slide members on the inner slide members by expanding the elastic assembly. Releasing the top member will elastically return the intermediate member to its original position.

  • Patent number: 7720515
Abstract: In a disclosed embodiment, a mobile unit includes a codec, a vocoder, and an audio decoder. The vocoder and the audio decoder provide respective outputs to an audio mux. A stereo/mono control unit receives an audio mux input from the audio mux. A control output generated by the stereo/mono control unit is coupled to a number of components in a receive audio processing path of the codec. By disabling at least one of the components in, for example, the right channel of the receive audio processing path of the codec, the control output of the stereo/mono control unit results in significant power savings. Such disabling can occur, for example, when the audio mux input received by the stereo/mono control unit contains voice signals, as opposed to music signals.

  • Patent number: 7715855
Abstract: A wireless communications network (120) responds to each incoming call placed to a wireless communications device (134) by transmitting a call-paging message (418) within a corresponding partition of a digital radio frame of prescribed format. Responsive to each occurrence of a broadcast event (404), the network transmits (414) a repeating broadcast-paging message announcing the availability of broadcast content from the network. The broadcast-paging message is transmitted multiple times within each digital radio frame. Another sequence (500) describes WCD operation in this network. Responsive to wakeup (502) from sleep, the WCD detects (509) received signal quality. The WCD also receives (510) scheduled network transmission of a call-paging message and a number of instances (at least one) of a repeating network transmitted broadcast-paging message that occurs multiple times for each scheduled transmission of the call-paging message. This number varies inversely with the detected signal quality.

  • Patent number: 7688800
Abstract: An apparatus and method for changing a channel according to direct channel change information transmitted from a broadcasting station. The apparatus includes a broadcast receiver, a tuner and a controller for checking parsed DCC information. The broadcast receiver receives a broadcast signal. The tuner tunes channels and stores the tuned channels in memory. The controller parses DCC information received in the broadcast signal and checks for a target channel included in the DCC information. The controller then changes a channel by selecting one among plural virtual channels according to a predetermined priority when several virtual channels correspond to the target channel.

  • Patent number: 7684363
Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling unsolicited traffic are disclosed herein. The apparatus and method can be applied to wireless communication networks such as CDMA2000, UMTS, GPRS and the like so that traffic which is not solicited by wireless communication devices operating on those networks is not sent over the air needlessly. The present application provides techniques to block unsolicited traffic based on the identity of a user (for example based on International Mobile Station Identity (IMSI), Network Access Identifier (NAI), Mobile Station Internet Services Digital Network Number (MSISDN), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Universal Resource Locator (url)) as opposed to techniques that are based on a session or IP address, such as a traditional firewall. In accordance to this application, user identity based techniques are applied to block unsolicited traffic whenever a user has established a data session.
